I had weekly taxol for four months and lost my taste buds for a while, or everything tasted like soap. Had transient nausea and ongoing diarrhea. I found myself eating a lot of watermelon (good hydration and tasted okay). Other foods I relied on were English muffins, lightly salted rice cakes, and cottage cheese. I found myself craving protein on and off and just went with it, hence the cottage cheese. Sometimes I had to have red meat, even though I normally don't eat too much of that. I will buy london broil and cut it up into meal-size portions and freeze it. I ate poached or soft-boiled eggs when I couldn't eat too many other things. White rice was okay when nothing else was.

Sweet tooth disappeared entirely for a while, but I craved foods with salt.

I bought fresh lemons and limes, because when water tasted terrible, I could stomach it with a little juice in it. I also found that I could drink seltzer when water was awful. We have a soda stream, so I made a lot of lemon seltzer.

The MO's nurse really wanted me on the BRAT diet for diarrhea (bananas, rice, apple juice, toast) but I don't care for either bananas or apple juice.

    Hope this helps--good luck!

I did AC + Taxol. The AC was the hardest. I was hungry, but nothing tasted good/right! I normally eat fairly healthy, but I hated most veggies instantly!

I liked salty stuff; hated sweets. I ended up hating ginger, but could still tolerate some ginger ale, which was helpful. Plain water was gross, so I carbonated some, and added lemon/lime to get it down.

I also craved meat. All the time! So, I tried to get in good, quality meat whenever I could.

It was hard at first to spend much time in the kitchen. So it helped to have easy prep meals, or stuff made in advance... Fruit/veggies clean and cut and ready to eat. Simple meals... We actually had a lot of church friends bring us meals, which was nice except sometimes I didn't like what they brought (since nothing tastes right!)Lol! So my hubby ate it all, and put on weight quickly! :/

Eating got easier and more back to normal once I was on Taxol. But, it's different for everyone! Good luck in your prep and treatment!

I had my first treatment 2 weeks ago, and surprisingly to me...water tasted terrible, even the bottled stuff! I had to add lemon to it for me to be able to drink it! Sodas burned my mouth like crazy (big Coke Zero fan here), and I still can't drink them! Coffee gives me heartburn something terrible now! Juices of any kind seem to work for me. Something else I wasn't told about, but bothers me really bad...brushing my teeth! The toothpaste burns my tongue something fierce! You may want to invest in some non-flavored/non-minty toothpaste.

I would have some Prevocid/Prilosec on hand just in case. It seems to me, for some odd reason, that everything seems to bother my stomach, either by heartburn or acid reflux.
