Modavie - No I don't have the name but I know that Dr. André Robidoux is the Head of the CHUM Breast cancer clinic and he runs a few clinical trials. I went to see him for a second opinion after my dx. I can't find anything on the web either. It was the hospital pharmacist who reported this to my Onc. Good luck with your next tx!

Leggo - that is also my understanding.

Enjoy your annual 5 billion dollar pillage for Ibrance, Pfizer. More money to settle those pesky felony charges.

I'm bumping up this thread to see if any Canadian ladies have managed to get Ibrance since this thread was started. Anyone?

Nope, but don't need it right now - doing well on Faslodex but Ibrance would be next (if we could get it) my onc mentioned a few months ago that it will be available very soon (whatever that means).

Canadian girls, palbo trial is about to start at the Royal Vic - super hospital under Dr. Asselah. Speak to your oncos to get in touch with him if you want to participate in the trial. I signed the consent forms yesterday. Hope that helps

    Hi everyone,

Somehow I missed this thread when I asked a similar question in the Stage 4 forum.

I have been receiving palbociclib/Ibrance through a clinical trial in the US (combined with bazedoxifine). i travel to Boston every month. This is my fifth line of treatment for mets - I am on my ninth cycle (I started last July).

I heard yesterday from a contact at the CBCN that palbociclib has been granted a notice of compliance by Health Canada which apparently means it can be sold in Canada. She said, however, that the prescribed treatment wouldn't be out until the end of April. Of course, I am sure it will still be an uphill battle to get the drugs covered, but still good news nonetheless

What I'd like to know is how the US keeps circumventing the trial parameters and then ultimately prescribing it. I noticed in the link below that there are/were several trials in Canada....same rules. Same inclusion/exclusion requirements all over. Yet you can get in the trial in Boston having had 5 prior lines of treatment. Please don't think I'm begrudging you the treatment....I'm glad your getting it and sincerely hope it's your miracle. My question is really, if they're not going to follow the clinical trial rules, what exactly is the point of them? It confuses me and concerns me. Last time I checked, first line of treatment only, unless you live in the US it seems.

I've got to wonder too, how it's being prescribed for the US, regardless of pathology. Didn't seem to be an issue, unless people are lying. Didn't think it was EVER for her2 positive.

    Hi

The phase 1/2 trial I am in is not designed for first line treatment - a patient could have any number of hormonals and one post mets chemo. It combines bazedoxifene (a serm like tamoxifene) and palbociclib. I was so happy to find it because I am ineligible for so many trials. Especially in Canada it seems that most trials are Phase 3. However, trial is now closed.

I have been told at least 10 times by my onc that Palbo is NOT available for anything but FIRST LINE TREATMENT - I keep asking if it is going to be available in Canada and I am then told AGAIN only for FIRST LINE TREATMENT if and when it is approved - wish they'd get their sh**t together.

I WANT it!!!! I'm newly stage IV, ER/PR+ and HER2- so I qualify that way. I can't tolerate Aromidex as I got so nauseous I almost had to stop rads and was pulled off it after 2 1/2 weeks. They want me to go back on it, but I read about the combo of Letrozole/Imbrance in a magazine at the cancer centre!!!

So what's the bottom line, can we get it or not? I can't do the $10,000 a month - like, no shit, so what do I do? Lie down and die????

Hi Barbe - I totally understand your frustration. Ibrance is not available in Canada. Below is a link of a clinical trial with Ibrance/Letroze, double blinded study so no way to know if one gets Ibrance or the placebo. It shows recruiting only in Montreal now but it may be worth running this through your MO.

Barbe - they put me on Faslodex shots over a year ago and I've done very well on them - last scan said "no evidence of metastatic disease" it took 14 months but it has worked so far - I will of course have to stay on the shots until.......btw mine were accessed through compassionate, applied for by my onc at the local cancer clinic - I, too would love to see Ibrance here and used for "everyone that needs it".not just "first line". Keeping fingers crossed here. Hi Linda!
