I have been tested positive for BRIP1, there is not much info out there, I am debating on getting my ovaries out, I have already had a hysterectomy last year, my OB says I should leave them in, but my Oncologist suggests having them removed, anyone out there have any info to be shared on this?

thanks :)

Amy - be sure to look at the FORCE website, www.facingourrisk.org. That site is a wealth of info on genetic cancer risks and info. Try posting the same question on the boards there as well. Hopefully someone familiar with this can give you more info soon.

    Amy,

I have the BRIP1 variant too!

I've been searching for information on it to see if I should adjust my surgical decision or not.

Yes I have researched this as well, I would almost rather just have the ovaries out rather than the worry of Ovarian cancer, even if it is a lower chance of getting it with BRIP1 than BRAC1, and I really don't need them anymore anyway, it's the early Menopause I will have to deal with.

I am positive for BRIP1 too. I'll be having a prophylactic mx and oophorectomy in about a week. I too am doing this rather than worry about additional cancer later. I'm premenopausal, and this way I'll be able to continue on Arimidex without getting Lupron.
