nipple sparing incision sites
Hi! I just joined this site today. But have been on here all through my cancer journey. It has been a huge help. So thank you all who have shared your own experiences.I had surgery Oct 16 2015. I had a bilateral skin/nipple sparing mastectomy. Everything went extremely well. I have had no pain only a slight tightness. My incisions are under each nipple and go out to the sides. Under the right nipple on the incision is a pretty ugly black scab thingy. My plastic surgeon does not seem concerned at all. I'm very nervous about the nipple dying. The actual nipple and areola look good and normal in color. Am i just being paranoid? Is it just scabbing on the incision? And does anyone know how long following surgery that your in the clear as far as the nipples taking? Or could you end up with necrosis months later?

Hi Coopjax.I had a NSBMX June 10, 2015 and we knew my nipples were a go at the 7 day point (when they took the first bandages off) they were scabbed over and dark looking, I cried because I thought they were gonners! My PS took one look and said, " it don't get any better than that." Really???? My incisions were under my boobs in the intramammary fold though, not where yours are. Sounds like your incision has a scab; I am sure your PS would be concerned if there was anything to be concerned about if your areola and nipple is a good colour I am sure that is a good sign.Perhaps chat with the PS or the nurse again just to ease your mind. I haven't heard of anyone with late onset necrosis, but I am not a Dr
I had my exchange 9th October, 2015 and everything is looking good. Infact, my new girls look fabulous! Talk to the surgeon so as you can breathe easy, you deserve it!

I had another follow-up appointment today and I too have a blackened nipple. The BN wasn't at all worried and when I asked she said that as my nipple was still warm that I didn't have anything to worried about. The blackening is just a scab or collection of blood that hasn't been reabsorbed.
My incision is in the intramammary fold and not around the nipple and I'm 10days post op.

hi coopjax. I had the same surgery as you and my incisions are the same as well. My blmx was 9/17. I as well had black scabs that fell off about two weeks out. My breast surgeon came in to see me the morning after surgery and said they will be dark. They are fine now and I have feeling in one of them at this time 😁.
