Specialized healthcare may be lacking under Obamacare plans

I believe anecdotally that this is true, on state-run exchanges as well as on the federal (study apparently just looked at states that use the federal exchange). One constantly hears of very narrow networks on the ACA exchange plans. And as I've posted elsewhere on this site, the one ACA plan in New York that included Memorial Sloan Kettering has folded, though I believe the hospital may be in talks with insurers to change that.

And on a more mundane level, when I tried to find an orthopedist to check out scoliosis in my teenager, the only board-certified specialists on the plan did not accept patients under age 18--this for a condition that typically shows itself in adolescence! A call to the insurer turned up a few names--but there is very little opportunity for real choice among physicians.

One can't rely on lists of providers, as many doctors listed with a particular network don't accept new patients or turn out to be residents and not fully certified attending physicians.

I heard about this when it first rolled out but I thought they were trying to expand the networks of providers. This is bad.
