What should I ask for?

I posted previously. Painless swollen lymph node in armpit (right) , thickening under that armpit down over the top of right breast, dimpling under rt breast and outer breast and hard lump by nipple. I have a history of lumpy breasts and have had numerous lumpectomies as well as a pre cancerous mass removed from the right breast

My doctor is ordering a mammo but should I ask for an ultrasound? Or is the mammo enough to start with? Thanks for so much help here, it is greatly appreciated. I feel so uneducated! I'm not sleeping at night, I just want to make sure I know what I am doing and what I want.

Hi mothertime! I had a mammogram done in June, and then was called back for another mammogram on July 9th, saying they had "seen something". I went for the 2nd mammogram, and at that time, the radiologist decided to do an ultrasound just as confirmation. I would start out with the mammogram, and after it, the radiologist may decide to go ahead and do the ultrasound depending on what they see. If he/she doesn't do an ultrasound, ask them for their suggestions on whether or not you should have one. They may be just fine with only a mammogram.

As to feeling uneducated...lord, we've all been there! My first appointment with my oncologist was a blur! He kept asking me if I had any questions, and all I could think was "what am I supposed to ask...I've never been through this"! But the more I get into the process, the more I learn. And these discussion boards are wonderful! If you don't know, someone else will!

Good luck and let us know how it turns out!

The doctor will order the ultrasound and further testing if needed.
