    Gee whiz and goldlining. Thankyou for your messages - your words and your sentiments. I had chemo today and I'd usually spend the afternoon in bed, stretching into the evening, feeling just a teeny bit sorry for myself.

    Not today. I had my normal chemo day nap, then I laced up my trainers and went out the door for a walk. Once out, I couldn't help but have a little run. I was only out for 20 minutes, and it was certainly more walking than running, but it's a start. I realised that after reading your posts we need to focus on what we can do, and not want we can't. I'd been focussing on the fact that I couldn't run for 2 hours anymore, when instead I should be relishing in the fact that I can still run for a 1 minute, which actually is quite a milestone given the circumstances.

    Got in a not-so-fast but felt pretty good 2.5 this morning. Trying to figure out a schedule to get back to 10k by my race 11/8. I got from 5k to 10k in August before surgery. Now I've just gotta do it again.

    You ladies running through chemo are my heroes. Both that you're doing it now. And because of what it says about your fitness level going into it.

    Radiation won't start until 10/20. I'm disappointed because I'd thought my 10k would be celebrating it being over. But I guess the good thing is that I won't have reached the boost week which I understand is the most likely to effect me. This way if the boost means I can't stand a sports bra and the friction of running for a bit I'll be less annoyed after my race

    I ran 8 miles before my chemo on Tuesday and 5 miles the day after. But then I hit my limit. This morning's run is postponed. Hoping I can get back to it by Saturday so I can still fit a long run in on Monday. My last chemo has definitely hit me the hardest. I am dragging. BLAH! I hate that feeling! I did get up and walk today so that was better than nothing.

    4.5 this morning. Working my way back to 10k. 27 days until my race.

    Started on my favorite trail today. Unfortunately leaves and assorted falling nuts makes it hazardous. I tripped over a rock hidden by leaves and came oh so close to going down. Somehow in the scramble to at least fall beyond somerocks I saw sticking up I managed to right myself. Whew!

    Yay to you Cassylou!! Way to keep going :) Just lacing up my shoes to go for a slow 2 mile run. After reading everyone's posts about feeling lousy after chemo on another page I'm thinking yes I feel good so get out there and go for a run. Enjoy the day :)

    Just completed my last long training run before NYC marathon. I ran 18 miles less than two weeks from my last chemo. I felt pretty good! My legs got tired but otherwise I had a good run. Slow as a snail but I am not going for time - I am going for a finish.

    Suzanne50- now we are in taper mode and it is HARD!!! Did you get your start time? I'm a little bummed because it seems that I am assigned to run on the lower level of the bridge. I hear it has less of an incline though. 11 days left!!!

    So, after some drama, I got in to the inaugural Disneyland Paris Half! That steps off 25 September 2016. The US travel agency was apparently out of spaces before I even heard registration was open, because I had signed up for notification and did not get one. Then in the middle of a meeting, I checked Twitter and saw some random cursing about 2 hour waits on the phone and not getting in. I was with Disney execs at the time I found out, so I was toying with whether any could pull strings but then I heard there were European agencies that were filling N.Amer. orders, so I checked that out when I returned home. I was about to book with a UK travel agency that had spaces, but stumbled on a hint that the US agency managed to secure a few more spaces. So, if anyone is interested in an awesome destination run next September, at this point, you need to book hotel with one of the travel partners on the runDisney Disneyland Paris page, and when you select the room, the package includes a base park admission ticket, and you must reserve one or more race registrations per room. You can also purchase "cancel for any reason" insurance, which is unique, since runDisney has not offered any type of cancellation insurance in the past. GET Travel had some spaces today, and if they are sold out, you can try one of the European partners identified on the runDisney page. Apparently, they will open race-only registrations in January, but I think that would be more useful to locals. People like me are going to need the accommodation. Disneyland Paris hotels are stupid expensive, but I've had my heart set on it, and it's happening. There is apparently a "Castle to Chateau" bonus medal for those who have done a US runDisney half (or full) in 2016 as well.

    Hey there,

    Great to see everyone running! I finished the last round of chemo a month ago, had the PET-CT - the results were great, thank goodness. Now I am just on the (non-chemo) targeted therapy for the duration. So I am gearing up to get off the recliner and get running again. I signed up for the ZooRun 5k at ZooMiami on November 14 (http://www.zoomiami.org/Run). If you live in South Florida, come on down! It's always fun to run among the animals.

    goldlining I'm so jealous. So what do you do that you're I meeting with Disney? I'll probably be Jealous of that too.


    Scrunchthecat running the zoo in Miami is probably more funthan in DC. Here it is serious hills.

    Rseman - my start is 10:40 and I am lower level as well but i hear the views are just as nice. I wish my start was earlier but whatever. I just hope the weather is good. No rain please!!!! I have one more 9 mile run this weekend and then next week is a big taper - 3 miles for 2 days and a 3 mile WALK....that will be hard! Going in on Saturday to Expo for packet picket and then Sunday will be here. I am very excited! This race is so much more than a marathon for me - it symbolizes my battle with cancer and all that I had to go through to get to this point. I am a fighter - I will beat this cancer AND run a marathon!!! So there :)

    Looking forward to today's race reports! I last ran 10 days ago along the water in San Diego with a small sunrise group that went "slow" to accommodate me but faster than my usual pace and it was good to challenge myself. It is gorgeous today in Florida but I am a week into what seems to be flu. Bla. I'm a blob full of green goo, and am still aching in the neck and back but my legs do not know my lungs are sick and they want to go out.

    scrunchthecat, I'm from southern Ontario (in the frozen north), but spending time in Orlando. Panthrah, San Diego was a whirlwind of meetings, but thanks to the biological clock being on Eastern time, running at dawn along the Pacific becomes do-able! That park with the naval ship museum thing is nice running! Wish I'd been able to go out another time, but the bug hit my throat and lungs and joins by the end of the 2nd day. Here it is 10 days later and am still on inhalers and sinus sprays.

    (PS that is very 80s!)

    I swear by drinking Emergen-C .. helps more when its before but its aids when already sick. I work with so many kids aka walking germs that I drink this often. Sorry youre still sick :(

    Actually am taking twice as much C as that, plus almost all the other vitamins. Being really diligent on the road away from my all-inclusive healthcare system. Prefer caplets though; not big on drinks and syrups. My colleague picked it up from me and her MD gave her a Rx. Just waiting to hear what that was before I choose my next move. I do feel much improved, but not "better" yet. I've heard the rule of thumb to go ahead and run when you're sick, unless it's your lungs, in which case, rest until you can breathe. Whatever I do, I don't want to drive this into the lower lungs. Hanging in there!

    How were those weekend runs, folks?

    Suzanne50--I hear ya!!! The second I was diagnosed de novo stage 4 I knew I had to do this marathon. And now I'm running it while taking chemo but oddly enough I feel great and am so very thankful. I'm going to go to the Expo on Thursday and am staying in the city Saturday. What an amazing experience it is going to be for us. Have a safe run!!

    Hello everyone, it's been a while. I was on vacation in Maui. I ran every day by the beach, it was so beautiful! Then, I got sick on the last day. I had fever for a week, and couldn't run for two weeks. I was finally able to run for one hour this morning before work. I'm soooo behind on my training for Vegas RnR…

    Goldlining, I'm so jealous! My running partner (she is French) and I talked about it, but we signed up for Tinker Bell instead. Sorry you are sick. Hope you'll feel better soon.

    Hi everyone - haven't posted here in a while. I got off track this spring and summer with running, so joined the local running club's Fall 10K clinic to get back into the swing of things. Our target race is this weekend. I'm not a marathon runner like so many of you - 5Ks and 10Ks are more my speed (or more my "slow", actually, given that my race pace is somewhere around the 12:00 minute mile mark). But running is running, and I love reading about all of your adventures.

    I did do a fun 5K trail race last weekend - it was to benefit a local draft horse rescue group. The course ran all around the farm, into the nearby woods, and next to a lot of the paddocks. (It's a great cause - the rescue uses the funds to buy draft horses at auctions that otherwise would be bought by meat buyers and slaughtered for the Canadian and European horsemeat markets. The rescue rehabs the horses and adopts them out to forever homes.) The horses were beautiful and quite social, and seemed to enjoy hanging around the fences watching all the runners go by. At one point I was running next to a paddock, some of them spotted me and started running alongside me on their side of the fence for a bit - what great pacing buddies to have! All in all a very neat experience. I decided that I identify with the draft horses because in racing style I'm much more like a lumbering draft horse than a sleek racing Thoroughbred!

    5 day forecast for NYC is looking good ....cloudy and low 60s. I'll take it! I am excited! Good luck @Rseman! I am just going to enjoy the experience and have fun. I hear it's like going to a rock concert where you are the star! Take it all in and enjoy the day.

    NYC was awesome! Weather was great, crowds were incredible. I felt really good till I hit the 20s and then it got a bit rough. But I finished in just under 5 hours which is what i expected. It was amazing!

    Rseman....how did you do? I hope you had fun! I can honestly say that I loved it! Minus Mile 23,24,25. Then i was hurting.

    YAY To the NY Marathoners. And to NatsFan. How did it go?

    Starting to get nervous for Sunday. I ran 6.5 at just over 11 min pace this weekend. I'd like to be under on the weekend. But have to decide about going fast the whole way vs running with my friend who is much slower.

    Congrats to all the NY marathoners!

    As for my 10K, I finished almost 3 minutes slower than last year which was a disappointment, but I had a good race plan going in and ran a decent race, so I have to be pleased with that. It just wasn't one of those days for a PR I guess.

    Outrunning - I'm impressed with an 11 minute pace! I'm sure your friend will understand if you want to test yourself and run at your normal pace. I bet that's quite a hill climbing up to the apex of the Bay Bridge, but it must be beautiful looking over Chesapeake Bay once you get there.

    Nats-Yes I'm worried what the hill is going to do to my pace. But the second half is down hill so

    I can't really tell what the profile is because when you look at the race evavation it looks like it goes down. I think it must be the bottom of the channel it is showing.

    Outrunning - you're right - I checked the elevation on MapMyRun, and it did show it going down below sea level. I guess you're going to have to take your scuba gear!
