24.8 mile bike ride, 1560 feet of climbing. Felt slower today but time was actually faster than Monday, go figure

Awesome work Katy! When I saw the title of my email from BreastCancerAction.org today I wondered if it was your letter. Then I read the email with your letter and a beautiful photo of you. Wow! I'm impressed and very proud of you! Thank you for fighting for all of us.

Mysunshine48; yes, a serving of fruits or vegetables is usually a half cup. Fresh leafy greens take a full cup to make a serving and dried is only a quarter cup. For the protein, I looked up high protein foods on-line and I try to have protein with every meal. I've been adding sunflower seeds and slivered almonds to my salads (6g protein per oz each), eating cottage cheese (14g per 1/2 cup), Greek yogurt (12g per 1/2 cup), eggs (6g each), and beans (6-11g per 1/2 cup), as well as fish and meat (22-28g per 3oz serving). On days where my protein is low, I've been having a protein shake or adding protein powder to a smoothie.

Thanks for all the nice comments. I sure do love all the nice bike trails here and wish we had trails this nice at home. And I'm quite impressed by how bike friendly Victoria is. Motorists generally are very courteous and respectful and I've had no issues riding in some pretty congested traffic.

Today I walked for about an hour (6km?) and rode my bike about 20km. I also had radiation #11 of 16. 104 oz fluids (not counting the beer I had), 102g protein, 11 servings fruits/veggies.

Keep up the great work everyone!

Ran 5 miles with my dogs this morning in the dark before work. Yay! :) Not feeling so well today otherwise though (a little nausea, GI stuff, sad/emotional), but I'm also 2.5 weeks post 1st chemo. Part of me thinks I should be doing more, and the other part wonders if I'm crazy for doing this much. I feel best when I exercise no matter how tired I am. It helps me more than rest/sleep.

You are all great motivators!! :)

Just remember, Andraxo, that when you do chemo, your body is being killed off. So, its fighting to rebuild itself after each dose. Its not so much that you are losing fitness, as that your bodie's resources are divided at this time. Just do what you can, and as soon as you are done, you will bounce back. Promise. It won't take nearly as long as you think. 3 weeks after the end of chemo I ran 14 miles, and I ran 3-5 almost every day during chemo. That said, some days I was just to darn sick to do more than stagger around the block, and that was ok too. Like I said, you will bounce back, and much faster than you think! You are doing great!

    Thanks littleblueflowers!

Trying to do my best everyday and listen to my body. Some days I just can't do as much or as high intensity, but that is what is best and totally OK. :)

Looking forward to hiking this weekend in Canyon De Chelly (just a couple of miles away from where I work)!

Andraxo, I second what littleblue says. I never quit working out, but I sure got slow. It comes back quickly after chemo ends, in about a month I started feeling more normal, but realistically it took about 2-3 monthsbefore I felt "I'm back!"

    Hang in there.

I've been working in Chinle AZ - where Canyon De Chelly is - for 18 years! (at the IHS hospital there) love this place!

I go in the canyon so often that I tend to take pictures of everyone else, but I am rarely in them myself. I'll see if I can get one of me in the canyon :)

Funny littleblueflowers, that my weekend home off the Navajo reservation was in Dolores CO until a few months ago...just up the road from Mesa Verde.

went for a 2 mi walk yesterday. Had energy for more, but ran out of daylight. I plan to get an earlier start tonight and I'll report back tomorrow. I find it annoying that my new bluetooth headset kept cutting out. grrr.

Andraxo, I have been every place you mention, how cool! We have vacationed in Ouray Colorado, Moab Utah and in Monument Valley tons. We were at Canyon de Chelly in a year they didn't even let people cook outdoors in the campground because of fires. Love southern Colorado

10.7 miles, of which about 1.5 hr was on the treadmill. The rest was taking the stairs and walking around outside the conference hotel. Stretches. 20 modified military press.

Legs rather achy from tamoxifen, right chest/arm from conference chairs, yesterday's travel, overly effusive hugs from colleagues. I am unlikely to do it, but have been thinking about taking my shirt off during my presentation. That would be interesting.

    Well done everyone!

KSusan- an alternative to taking your shirt off. Slip that picture of you topless from the back in the "Phoenix Rising" pose. I love that photo of you. That will wake them up

Certainly it'd wake up the audience.

As for exercise, got to swim at the Burlington (VT) Y today. Nice, in that the facility has two pools, one for laps (mostly) and one for everything else (mostly). Today, however, I came out as the swim team came in. Twelve or thereabouts tween girls who had not seen one another in an unconscionably long time. All of however long it took them to get here from school.

and I lived for a bit in Durango, CO (and spent a fair amount of time at Mesa Verde and visited Canyon de Chelly...)...So a real Southern Colorado connection here. I love that area also. Hmm....we should do a meet up hike...

As for my exercise, it was mostly running around and working late getting ready for a work retreat event and then a few days vacation....by the ocean! where I hope to do some nice walking!

    Hugs, Octogirl

Just under 10k steps today. Part of that was a 2.25 mile walk w/ my dog around a lake. Lovely day, mid-seventies. Supposed to be back up around 90 the next few days. So tired of summer.

Collard greens, black eyed peas, cornbread, fried chicken, peach cobbler--I haven't had a meal like that in all of 2015.

I have probably gained back my 1 pound weight loss I've arduously accomplished over 8 months, but I wasn't going to pass on this dinner.
