    Hello

God Ive never been more confused and indecisive ! I'm going in on the 15th of October (next week) for fat grafting and nipple recon. Now, I don't know what to do with the nipple situation. And I never even thought about the aerola ...

    Hi Ganzgirl,

I am recovering from nipple reconstruction and fat grafting which was done last Tuesday about 11 days ago. I had my nipple reconstructed from the skin flap on the breast mound (I had DIEP reconstruction last year). I'm not sure how it is done with implant reconstruction but imagine it can be done using the breast skin as well? How did your PS explain the process? My PS also used the Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder to help the nipple retain its projection. I am very happy so far with the results. They are still quite large, but I was assured they would shrink down to appropriate size. As for the areola, I will be having them tattooed in a few months after the nipples have healed. The hardest part so far has been the pain from the grafted areas (inner and outer thighs). My breasts don't hurt. I've been wearing a compression garment which has helped a great deal with the tenderness at graft sites. The worst of the soreness lasted about 3 days, now I'm sore but not needing any pain meds not even tylenol. The most annoying part is trying to keep the nipples protected (I was given these shields with a protective cylinder in the center that came with the biodesign devise). I am pleased with my new nipples. I do not regret deciding on surgery for their reconstruction. If you are still not sure what you want to do, talk to your PS again and have him explain your options. I wish you well on your upcoming procedure:)

Swimmom2 I ordered temporary 3D nipple tattoos from www.nippletattoos.com to see what they looked like to help me make my decision. The lady who does them here in Calgary actually teaches people from around the world how to do this, and after speaking to her, she said she also does tattoos on reconstructed nipples, which often look more like nubs. She has repaired many tattoos done by Plastic Surgeons - she says they often look like bullseyes. Take a look at her website - it took just over a week to receive the tattoos (I ordered 2 different kinds to see what dif shades looked like too) - good way to try it on without committing

I like the idea of the temporary tats. It's a good test srive before committing, thanks kgirard411!

Hi ladies just found this board. I'll be having BMX 12/30/15 followed by radiation. Eventually I'll have a lat flap reconstruction done and nipple reconstruction. I heard about Vinnie Myers and would love to have him do my tattoos. For those of you who have had nipple reconstruction and the 3D tattoo how does that work? Would any of you just recomend just getting the 3D tattoo with Vinnie instead

I'm a little late on this thread. I had the old CV flap nipple reconstruction and tattooed areolas 5 years ago and my nipples look all natural. The way the surgeon rolled the skin together to form the nipple imitates the little nooks and crannies in a normal nipple. They weren't very big to begin with, they shrunk a little and now they are just perfect to show they're there under a t-shirt but not big enough to attract much attention. Tattoos done in PS office needed only one touch-up after a year. Now the color looks all natural and very similar to my old areolas.

So what I am hearing (reading) is that once my wife has her implants put in, we should wait a few months before having her nipple reconstruction? This will allow her breasts/skin time to move, settle and heal before her nipple placement. At this time she isn't sure if she wants the origami type nipples, because she is afraid they will always "be on" so to speak? If she were to get nipple buds as I call them then she would have her PS tattoo her areola around the nipple bud

Interested in what someone said was the Biodesign Nipple Reconstruction Cylinder due to hearing that there is a potential for the origami style nipple bud to flatten to much. Anyone have any experience with this type of nipple reconstruction.

I had the origami method done during my exchange surgery, with pigment added about ten weeks later. I'm happy with the results.

I had origami nipple recon 3 weeks ago. They've shrunken some, and look perfect right now, but my PS said there will probably be more shrinkage. I 'm hoping they don't get much smaller. I was never really a "nipple fan" before, but I keep peeking under my shirt because I'm so happy to have them again! I didn't realize that I missed them. I have an appt. for tattooing with Vinnie in May, which I am ecstatic about. I'm hoping that even if they shrink, he can make them appear bigger with his shadowing technique. I feel very lucky to be so pleased with my results.I know not everyone has such a positive outcome Wishing the best for everyone!

Hi Swimmom2, I had my areola built with skin graft from upper inner thigh/groin area and nipple built from part of my lat flap this past May. It turned out beautifully! Color match is good too, and I haven't tattooed it. Have you decided what you will do?

I am going to have the origami nipple surgery. I want my breasts back to normal as much as possible.I had breast reconstruction surgery on Oct.9th. I went from 44DD to what I suspect is a D cup. I have not purchased a bra because I am still sore with a big healing wound/ scab under my right reconstructed breast. I wanted my right breast that was 'healthy" to be reduced as much as possible. The plastic surgeon wanted me to go bigger but I wanted as much breast tissue as possible removed. I originally wanted a double mastectomy. My left breast that was removed in Janurary now has an implant in it. I am not sure how they match nipples (real one to origami one) but I consider it worth it. I will have the PS tattoo my nipple. If I am not satisfied I will see Vinnie.
