Pain after Biopsy
Its been almost 2 weeks since my biopsy of my left breast & I have started hurting above my ribs, in my shoulder blades on both sides & the side of my breast from the biopsy. This is my second diagnosis of Infilitrating Ductal Carcinoma. 1.5 cm, did not see any lymph nodes on the ultrasound. 11 yrs ago it was in my right breast, 2.5 cm, no lymph nodes. I had a lumpectomy with 4 rounds of Atrimycin & Cytoxin followed by 6 weeks of radiation. I am worried cause my PET scan isnt scheduled til this coming wk & I still havent met w/a plastic surgeon for a consult on a double masectomy. I am hoping it has not spread. Please any help.

LGHenely,
We are really sorry to hear what you are going through, and the discomfort you are experiencing as well as the anxiety. It could be just a result of the biopsy, but we are glad you are going for your PET this week. Perhaps you could call your doctor's office tomorrow to see if there are any earlier availabilities. It is really about trying to ease your worries, and doing what you can for yourself until you have all the tests completed.
We're all here for you,

I have been having sharp stabbing pains where they did the big needle biopsy in left breast. My diagnosis is invasive ductal carsonoma. It is freaking me out that the surgery has to be so far off after they say its invasive. My surgery is 23 days away, Iwas diagnosed Sept. 16th.

Sorry to her you have cancer. I really havn't dealt with it yet, I'm to busy trying to find out answers as to what happens next and why does it take so long to get the surgery. I keep getting the pains where they did the big needle biopsy and asprin just doesn't cut it. I could not feel a lump and neither could the surgeon but now I can feel the lump at 3 o'clock as the MRI, Ultrasound, and mamogram stated. Now it feels like there is a marble there. It scares me. I have been reading a book I ordered from the Mayo Clinic about breast canser and there are many things yet to come and no two of us will be effected in the same way by radiation, chemo, etc. but I am getting the general idea of whats ahead. That is calming in a way. Praying helps. I pray for each one of you I correspond with. I have started a list to make sure I leave no one out when I pray. I am glad you have doctors you trust. That is a big thing in your favor. Please have a good day, hang in there.

Well I had the seed implant this morning and I found out Lidocaine does not numb anything for my body. I yelled at the doctor because that needle had me all over the table. I told him it did't work when he did the biopsy and its not working now. He said he would inject some more, but that didn't help. He finially said we are almost done any way and shoved that needle in and then took it out after the seed attached. OMG it hurt and still hurts. I can't even keep a bra on. They better not be using Lidocaine for the surgery I will walk out if they do. Cancer has to be better than being stabbed to death with large needles.
Then he told me not to get around animals or small children until after I have the surgery and the seed is removed. They had previously told me its such a low amount of radiation that its only significance is for the surgeon to pin point the mass accurately by using a Giger Counter. Now I have to move my dog out and can't hug my grandchildren. Now I am in pain, tried ice packs, but that made it worse, anyone got any ideas? It's short stabs of constant pain at this point.

Sorry you are experiencing such pain Waterstreet.
My prep before surgery was different to yours. I didn't have a "seed" implanted but the morning of my surgery I was injected with radioactive isotopes and honestly it was the worst, most painful part of the process so far. I almost jumped off the bed when the technician injected only about half a ml into the areola/nipple area. He told me it would be like a bee sting but it was more like a thousand bee stings. Although the pain was intense it did subside very quickly for me. Once I was "under" the surgeon injected about another 5mls.
Hope you have found some relief and that your surgery goes well.
I will be thinking of you. Donna.

Well its the morning after and it hurts but not as bad. I am going to get ready and go to the mapping and then come home and super clean so I can't think about it.
I will certainly speak to my surgeon about it. I am going to see if I an talk to him or t least his nurse after mapping is done. When I get all of this behind me and if something should re-occur how could I ever trust him to do anything again. No he wasn't the one who actually did these procedures, but how could he let this happen to one of his patients. Sometimes I think centers are set on cutting costs at the cost of the patient. I am beginning to think this center maybe like this in a lot of areas.
In Arkansas I was spoiled because I had a PCP that was young; but believed in the old school treatment and even did house calls when he felt it necessary. He sent me to specialists there and were a couple we decided not to use, but I had private insurance through my employer then and it paid the full cost charged not like Medicare. I don't know if that has anything to do with the situation, but not the way in my book to treat anyone.
I am going to church after todays appointment and pray for guidance.
Thanks,Iwill put in a prayer for you also.
