The worst thing in your life may contain seeds of the best.
When you can see crisis as an opportunity,
your life becomes not easier, but more satisfying.
Joe Kogel -
When we can honestly ask ourselves which
persons in our lives mean most to us, we
often find that they are those who, instead
of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have
chosen rather to share our pain and touch
our wounds with a warm and tender hand.
Henri Nouwen -
❤️ this quote Jackie!
Thank you again for sharing with all of us!

-
If someone
listens or stretches out
a hand or whispers a word of
encouragement or attempts to
understand a lonely person,
extraordinary things begin to happen.
Loretta Firzaris -
Gratefulness brings joy to my life. How could I feel joy in what I take for granted? So I stop taking for granted, and there is not end to the surprises I find. A grateful attitude is a creative one, because, in the final analysis, opportunity is the gift within the gift of every moment-- the opportunity to see and hear and smell and touch and taste with pleasure.
David Steindl-Rast -
Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. It turns problems into gifts, failures into successes, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. It can turn an existence into a real life, and disconnected situations into important and beneficial lessons. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow. Gratitude makes things right.
Melody Beattie -
Great quote today!
-
The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely, or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature, and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature. As long as this exists, and it certainly always will, I know that then there will always be comfort for every sorrow, whatever the circumstances may be. And I firmly believe that nature brings solace in all troubles. -Anne Frank

CUBS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
We never have more than we can bear. The present hour we are always able to endure. As is our day, so is our strength. If the trials of many years were gathered into one, they would overwhelm us. . . but all is so wisely measured to our strength that the bruised reed is never broken. -H. E. Manning
-
We need quiet time to examine our lives openly and honestly -
spending quiet time alone gives your mind an opportunity
to renew itself and create order.
- Susan Taylor -
Yep! I'm excited about those Cubbies!!!
-
Dare we dream for our Cubs????? I say YES!
-
Redhead...They are looking pretty good! I'm going to dream! I know what I will be doing on Saturday!
-
Kindness is the sunshine in which virtue grows.
Robert Green Ingersoll -
Pessimists see only the dark side of the clouds, and mope;
philosophers see both sides, and shrug; optimists
don't see the clouds at all--they're walking on them.Leonard Louis Levinson
-
Are you balanced? Do you share your time, your energy, your life, as much with yourself as you do with those around you?. . . . Know your limits. You are one of the most important people you need to look after and love. Balance your time, your energy, your life with those around you. You'll be able to give more freely and joyfully as a result, and you'll be more open to the gifts of the universe. It's not wrong to give to others. But it's okay to say yes to ourselves, too. -Melody Beattie
-
“Our inner guidance comes to us through our feelings and body wisdom first -- not through intellectual understanding. The intellect works best in service to our intuition, our inner guidance, soul, God or higher power - whichever term we choose for the spiritual energy that animates life.” ~ Christiane Northrup

Even if your efforts seem for years to be producing no results, one day a light that is in exact proportion to them will flood your soul.

Sandy in Chicago (Edgewater Glen, bet. Andersonville & Rogers Park) here. 64 going on 65 (yay Medicare!), diagnosed just after Labor Day, lumpectomy w/SNB on Yom Kippur (NPO after midnight, so it was an easy fast), starting partial-breast external-beam radiation (16 sessions) early-to-mid-Nov. . 10 yrs. postmenopausal. 1.3cm, grade 2, mitotic score 1. Clear margins, neg. nodes. ER+/PR+/HER2-. OncDX 16, so no chemo. Ashkenazi Jewish but no family hx of breast or related cancers, and just yesterday confirmed BRCA-negative. Starting AI (Femara) in Jan. Married 44 yrs (Bob, a cardiologist), 1 son (Gordy, 31, a comedy writer & actor). Retired atty. (except occasional pro bono). Currently actively touring singer-songwriter (guitar, dulcimer, harmonica, bass). Owned by 2 cats. Hobbies (besides music, travel and politics) include gastronomy and wine (the latter will have to be drastically reduced, of course).
Baseline and early periodic mammos done at Rush-Anchor HMO in Lakeview, but later switched to another insurer w/PPO. Later mammos done biennially at Nordstrom Old Orchard until they transferred my records to the Center for Breast Health at NorthShore Evanston Hospital, where I’ve been screened biennially for the past 10 yrs (annually since ’08). Currently being treated at Evanston Hospital and its branch of the Kellogg Cancer Center. Surgeon Katharine Yao, MO Teresa Law, RO Arif Shaikh--all marvelous and respectful of my treatment wishes.
Hang in there, Cubs. And Bears, the Lions didn’t beat you Sunday....the ZEBRAS did.

welcome to you ChiSandy, I wish you strength and resilience during your treatment! I am nearby in Glenview. I am currently in chemotherapy for a local recurrence of BC. I will be doing radiation at Northshore to be close to home, so glad to hear you like your providers. Nice to meet you!Stay strong
-
Welcome ChiSandy--there are a number in our group in the Chicagoland area---I am downstate in Bloomington. Congrats on skipping chemo. My onco was 8, so I got to skip it too and that was the first of many blessings in this journey. Sounds like you have a great medical team and a good support team and good grasp on the days ahead. Radiation is not too bad. I think the darn SNB injections was the worst so far and I will be 2 years out from diagnosis on Jan 30th. Great bunch of people on the many threads at BCO.org.

We can choose to gather to our hearts the thorns of disappointment, failure, loneliness, and dismay in our present situation. Or we can gather the flowers of God's grace, boundless love, abiding presence, and unmatched joy. I choose to gather the flowers. -Barbara Johnson

I am so angry at the American Cancer Society that I could spit! I have donated and fund raised for them for 25 years prior to my diagnosis.....NO MORE. I know too many women who were diagnosed when the got their very first mammo at 40, or even younger......They have just opened the back door for Congress to legislate some bone headed laws about women's health needs, and allow the insurance industry to say that "experts" say we don't need screening until 45. And then to go a step further and say there is not any value to having a clinical breast exam by your doctor every year????????? Women, we need to stop writing checks to organizations that are associated with them. When the money dries up, they will realize they have messed with the wrong gender. (sorry guys, I know you can get this disease too)....
-
Agree Redheaded1 - unfortunately, cancer care is being back-door legislated by the insurance companies. Money talks.

You will find, when you look back upon your life, that the moments when you have really lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.
Henry Drummond -
Now that is a true quote, Jackie!
I have bought a plane ticket for Christmas! I am excited because I am going to TN the week before Christmas to spend some time with my son and his familly! It will be nice to have more than just a couple of days with them at the holiday and hopefully I will be able to do things around there to help out my DIL at that busy time.
I am loving this weather and hope to get out and golf one last time this afternoon. I went out and played a few holes yesterday but those little black bugs drove me off the course. They were all over and they bit. I finally decided that I had plenty to do and didn't need that frustration. It does look like rain might be moving in later today or this evening.
Everyone enjoy your weekend.
Hey Redhead....our Cubs fell apart in the playoffs and I was so disappointed, but they did have a magical year and we might be back there next year if they get us some more good pitchers.

Step back from the clamor.
Step back from the urgency.
Step back from the anger.
Step back from the fear.
Step back into the knowing and the love.

Anybody know of a good LE PT on the northshore? One of our bc.org members is looking.
