Reconstruction AFTER Radiation

Hi everyone,

I have already completed chemo, lumpectomy, and now double mastectomy. I was supposed to have immediate reconstruction with tissue expanders but due to some complications I was only able to get the tissue expander on the left. Due to time restraints... starting radiation end of October... there is no time to reconstruct the right side. Has anyone out there had reconstruction AFTER radiation? Especially with a tissue expander and implant?

Thanks,

Kelly

I haven't but this will be my only option as I am neoadjuvant and will be having BMX followed by radiation so will be interested to see what you find out :) I don't even think they will put expanders in me until after the radiation but all will be revealed next week when I see the plastic surgeon.....

Hi, I had diep reconstruction and was told this was the only reconstruction I could have because I had extensive radiation 17 months prior. This was a local recurrence for me on a previous LX breast. I am extremely pleased with results. I had to be put on antibiotics right after surgery because of some redness that was showing due to radiated skin, but this responded very well and I was discharged with a few days worth of RX. I'm sorry I have no experience with implants as this was my only option and I'm quite happy to have my own tissue. Your almost through this journey!!
