Doing a happy dance for both of you guys today
-
Happy for you shoppingchicken that's really great!!!!!
I go for my first 6 mo in March 2016 trying not to think about it. I'm not taking tomoxifen my gyn said my risk does not out weigh Se's. I hope he's right.
-
Thanks to all for the good wishes. I'm sure for once I will sleep very well tonight
-
great news, momo ! I just had a clear mammo recently, so we can breathe a sigh of relief together! (Praying you get good benign results too, Ddw !) (momo--- my radiologist basically told me "since we have the 3-D tomosynthesis machine now, and your breasts are almost completely fat (not dense at all), you really don't need MRI anymore". I explained to her I wasn't having MRIs due to any breast density issues, but due to high risk from LCIS and mom's history of ILC, then she changed her tune, writing in her report, "MRI recommended for lifetime risk of 20% or greater." My risk is 35%, so I guess I will be continuing with MRIs for now. (but the insurance company is paying less and less every year).

Such good news ! This has been a great week . May it continue. I love you gals and I'm so happy for you all.
Bad news though for a close friend. She is currently 64 . I suggested many many years ago that she get tested for BRCA 1 due to family history. She told me not to mention it ever again. I was the first person tested basically in study in US and I couldn't get her on board. Fast forward 23 years. I don't know what finally drove her to it but she got tested and is positive for BRCA 1. It's unbelievably lucky though that she is already 64 with no personal breast or ovarian cancer history.
How does this happen ladies , anyone know? Now she is scheduled to see same docs at Dana Farber who pioneered testing on me so long ago. This horror story comes back to bite...I'm pretty upset for my friend.
Please keep me on your radar with positive thoughts for another good outcome. Seems impossible to have so much goodness at once
-
Ddw---but the good news is , as you said, she hasn't had breast or ovarian cancer in all these years, and now she can be proactive in fighting it. Knowledge is power.

I know . I'm thrilled for her about that. It's like she beat the odds and the stats. Nothing, completely healthy person but dragging around this dangerous mutation. The universe works in mysterious ways sometimes

Now that this round us over for me, it's amazing just how exhausted I am. Stress certainly takes a lot out of you. I am SO TIRED.
On a different note, at our visit yesterday my BS said she thought that once I hit the 5 year mark (in the spring) we could go to 1x year checks (mammo plus ultrasound together), while forgoing the MRI's altogether. Not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I'd be thrilled to ditch the 6 month anxiety, but in the other hand, there is some measure of comfort in being watched so closely. What would you do
-
Hello,
I get lymphatic drainage done on my breasts every week, which stops the toxins accumulating and keeps the lymph moving round properly.
If it's done properly, breasts feel light afterwards and "aired"
I ve stopped wearing underwire bras. I don't know if this will make a difference but it makes me feel relaxed. So whatever works to keep the edge off, right?!?
Two days to go DW, nearly there! And yes, exhaustion comes with all these tests. I spent last week in bed!!
I like the six month watch. Don't know if I would feel ok without it. I had a very bad 18 months where we weren't sure what was going on, so to know that if anything happens, it will be caught early gives me peace of mind.
Best to you all!

-
- yea!!!! 💃💃💃🎉🎉💃💃🙌🙌😃👍 sooo happy everything went well and Birads 1 alright GF that's great news. Calcifications are normal they come with age unfortunatley. I wouldn't sweat it one bit. Awesome!!!!
-
Ddw----wonderful news, now doing the happy dance for you!!!! Due to your family history of bc and oc, perhaps you should consider taking preventative meds? (tamoxifen--if pre-meno; evista or aromasin--if post-meno) ask your doctor about it.

How true
-
momoschki - that is a very good question - 6 month v 1 year checks? I don't know the answer. I am in a 6 month check for 2 years loop - protocol - for birads 3 scattered calcifications. I am at increased risk because of family history - 15% lifetime risk. I'm 62. Genetic testing was negative. Because of my anxiety, I was told they could do a biopsy now which would put me on annual screenings. I don't know what to do. My anxiety is at times so difficult in the 6 month loop, but now I am worried that an annual screening will produce as much if not more anxiety. And i will lose the opportunity to find something early if something new develops. I have talked to a few women whose anxiety is equally high when they finally got back to annual screening. I would love to know your thoughts as you go through the process of 6 month v annual.
-
I saw my MO yesterday right after six month screening Mammogram. Now I have a different and really more complicated problem than you guys. I have so many other serious diseases that doc feels that she cannot safely put me on six month screening protocol or meds. Normal people would be offered both so I had a very good conversation with her yesterday and asked her why not me? She said " look I really don't want you to get breast cancer, but with all of the other things you have to cope with now, I don't want to do more possible harm with meds and imaging procedures." We are both. Worried about my already deteriorating kidneys with MRIs. It's pretty discouraging for me being between this rock and hard place. There is no protocol apparently for someone like me.
-
I'm still up in the air re the 6 month vs 1 year checks. BS wasn't willing to make a determination yet when I saw her last month. She wants to wait until I reach the 5 year mark (this Feb). Of course, the irony of this rationale is that the risk actually goes UP each year. I've got an appt with a new onc next month the get a second opinion. Original one, whom I'd been seeing since the start of all this, died. Actually suicide, which makes the situation that much worse. How many of you with an atypia dx regularly see an oncologist? My gyn would write my evista rx
-
Ddw, I would rather be on six months screening to catch it early like you said. Where did you find this protocol?
-
Djabi, 15% lifetime risk is barely above average. About 12% of women develop breast cancer in their lifetime, so in the grand scheme of things 15% is pretty normal.
