Renee: I don't blame you for wanting to punch something! When will your results be back? Prayers!
-
Renee I hope the results don't take 2 weeks. Waiting is horrible. Thinking of you.
Here's a question- I'm a brca2 mutant- should I be seeing derm? Never bothered to ask my doc or genetic counselor.
-
Good thoughts to you, Renee.
Addie, our chance of getting melanoma is statistically higher, so yes.

Hi ladies. Post skin sparing BMX with immediate Diep reconstruction is DONE. Sentinal node biopsy was negative 0/3 nodes taken. Last night and this morning were rough, but it's all getting better now. Slow and steady.
-
Dizz- great news. Take good care and rest.
-
Glad to hear it, Dizz.
-
Sending healing thoughts, Dizz. You will get through this with flying colours, I know you will!
Renee, that sucks about your biopsy. Hoping for the best! I am vigilant about my moles...and I have a lot of them...it's good to have these things checked out.
I'm still waiting for a date for my hysterectomy and oophrectomy...I hate waiting. I just want a date. I am supposed to have a pelvic ultrasound before the surgery too. Haven't heard about that either. I hate those...you have to pee so badly but can't until the tech allows you to.
Aside from that, all is well. I am so glad to have the chemo and rads behind me - it has been quite the ride and I'm glad I was able to share it with you lovely ladies.
Andrea
-
Good healing, Dizz. I'm sure the worst is behind you.
-
Dizz, thanks for checking it; great news on the nodes!!!!!!!!
-
what is that they say? No node is good news?
-
Yay Dizz!
My beard grows to my toes
I never wears no clothes
I just wrap my hair
Around my bare
And down the road I goes!

Renee, you inspired me to call the dermatologist since I was due for my appointment in September. I was hoping for a November appointment. "We have a cancellation for tomorrow." Blaah. This was my first week of no appointments in longer than I can remember! Oh well. Better to get checked. This Letrozole seems to give me acne, so going now is probably good.
I do want to get the dermatologists's perspective on long term effects of rads on the skin. Anything else specific you all ask specific to this BC stuff and the meds we take?
I also got a call today from the lady at the cancer center regarding the Survivorship program. My MO really likes his patients to go. They go over a summary of all of my treatments and talk about long term effects, things to look for, etc. I think if nothing else, it is nice to have another person to bounce questions off of. That appointment is in November.
The worst of the rads burns are healed. Just a couple open areas left, and a still bright red boost area... That thankfully, is not too sore
-
Thanks all. Kbeee get that derm appt! I'm super fair skinned for being a full-blooded Italian. Got burned a number of times as a kid too. Those were the no sunscreen baby oil days of the 70's and 80's. My dad has had it. So I'm preparing mentally for the worst but hoping for the best and it will be what it will be.
On a more positive note I made it to my cancer wellness centers' spa night. Choices for having hand massage and paraffin wax, foot massage, scalp massage and back massage. So I said "umm just the back massage please". She said "well you can have as much as you like what else" and I replied "ahhh my toe nails are partially falling off so foot massage is out, my fingernails are now on prescription of nuvail since I have nail dystrophy so hand massage is out, and I have stitches in my scalp so scalp massage is out". She said "wow you are falling apart we can put you in for an extra long massage of the back". I said God bless your heart"! Nice evening and nice to be with others going thru this crap!

So glad you got the extra long back massage at spa night. I think I could use a few massage sessions when this is all said and done. I think my body would like that!!!! I think we all could use that. It might just appear on my Christmas list
Jen, how are you healing?
Andrea, I hope you get the surgeries scheduled. I hate having things up in the air.
So back in 2013, they did genetic testing, but only tested for BRCA1 and 2, which was negative. When I recurred, my mom's doc had her tested since she had BC in 1992. She came back with a "variant of unknown significance" in CHEK2. They did not test me for that. It increases risk of breast cancer about threefold and possibly colorectal cancer. I asked here about it and since it was not a definite positive, they will not retest me, because they do not think insurance would cover it and it would not change treatment.they did say in a year or 2, they may know more about the variant. They also said if her doc wants to do a family study, they could. We'll see....... Nothing pressing, but would be goofs info moving forward
-
Dizz, WooHoo! So happy everything went well and you got great path results! Glad you were able to update us.....when do you get to go home?
Renee, I'm following your lead too....and I'm in the same boat as KBeee. I called my dermatologist today and got an appt for tomorrow! Oh yay! lol I'm also fair and had my share of sunburns back in the day ...I had a very bad blistering sunburn as a teen.
Andrea, I hope you get your surgery date soon! Oh gah, I had a pelvic US before my hyster and thought my bladder would explode! I asked the tech if he had ever had anyone wet his table before and he said no....... I told him I was about to be the first and I was dead serious! Thank heaven that didn't happen, but I really don't know how I held it.
KB, so glad your skin is healing up well! The Survivorship program sounds really helpful.
Ahhh the massage sounds so nice Renee, you deserved some pampering!!
Littleblue, I dont have all that much hair, but its been growing for a long time, its just slow! I've thought about trying a shampoo that contains biotin, but haven't checked them out.
-
Ginger, I had to finally shave my beard again. My face was covered in white fur. Nothing like whiskers, texture of cat fur. The hair on my head is nothing to write home about!
Kbee, I'm healing! Just one scabby area about 2 inches long on my scar. The rest is almost done peeling, and nothing g is oozing! Is your pain better?
-
Heather, thanks for checking in - great news, sending you healing thoughts.
-
Jen, my pain is way, way less. Just a bright red area and a couple scabs left. The rest looks great. I think it is still important to moisturizer it well into the future. My biggest concern is long term healing of the tissue. I really do not want to lose my implant, as superficial as that may sound. After 2 years of treatments and surgeries and more treatments, I am ready to be done and move forward!
Today's dermatology appointment should just be a routine check. Hoping it stays that way!!
-
Feeling a less pain today...it's more uncomfortable than painful. So many tubes and wires...just getting up to go to the bathroom takes 15 minutes. I walked 3 times yesterday and once today so far. I may be discharged to the hotel tomorrow, if not definately friday. The biggest issue is the diep inciscion. Everything up top is pretty numb. Abs and ab skin are so tight though. Reconstruction looks good so far though. Pretty much look as I did before, except areolas are much bigger...especially on my little aa foobs.
-
dizzpark, sending healing prayers your way.
Andrea, hope you get a date for sx so you can plan. I agree nothing worse than waiting and not being able to plan and live your life.
Getting ready to see my MO and get my herceptin inj. Start Tamoxifen, I believe, is on the agenda today too.
Hope all others in rads are healing. Kbeee you are tough and had to be to go thru what you got dished out with rads. Gotta' get better from here!
-
Stopped taking ativan at night. Woohooo....thanks for the motivation and the brave souls on this discussion board that walked this road before me. Now I am on tamoxifen, lexapro and thyroxine and vitamin D.
Any of you taking magnesium? Anything else I need to think about.
Happy for the no node activity, Dizz.
-
Positive spirit, you should not be on tamoxifen and Lexapro together. The Lexapro can make the Tamoxifen ineffective! Tamoxifen does not play nice with a lot of drugs. I believe Effexor is the only antidepressant that can be taken with Tamoxifen.
Dizz, Hoping you feel better and better each day and that things heal quickly. That is one huge surgery you had!!!! Hoping your pain is under control. Glad things look good.
Renee, hope the appointment with MO goes well. I am in waiting room for dermatologist now
-
hi ladies! I wanted to share with you something I've been working on this month that was released today
z
It all started with one letter. When I was very hurt. And pissed off.
-
Way to go Katy!
My derm appointment was fine. He said my radiation area looks painful and I told him he's lucky my appointment was not 2 weeks ago. He told me to use the Silvadene until it is completely healed. He also gave me a new cream for my acne, which Letrazole seems to have aggravated. He said I need to come at least yearly for 10 years because of the radiation.
-
Katy, I am so impressed!
Heather - 3x! That's awesome! Great that you are feeling good about the recon!
Lynne
-
Positive, I do magnesium. It might help with the hot flashes, and it definitely makes me loose as a goose.
Glad your derm apt went well Kbeee! My derm has me coming in every 6 mos for a while..wonder why?
Dizz, so happy your recon looks good!
Does anyone feel like chemo is still affecting them? My nails are still dying back, I have mouth sores like on taxol again, and I feel tired and achy. Also, I feel like my muscles and tendons just generally get sore and tight more easily now...am I crazy?
-
I've been told by friends that increasing exercise squeezes the sequestered chemo drugs out of your fat cells for quite a while after treatment.
Katy, how awesome was it to open my email from BCA and see you in it?
