Hi everyone. My mother was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer in August. She has since had a mastectomy (after which they found 1 of her lymp nodes was affected but no others) and is now in the middle of chemotherapy. She has just discover a small pea sized lump on her chest (the side that she had a mastectomy on) but wants to wait until her next treatment (over 2 weeks away) before someone takes a look at it. Has anyone heard of this happening before? I lump appearing during chemotherapy and can it possibly be attributed to anything else other than another tumour? Thanks.

Scar tissue around the mastectomy scar is fairly common. The best solution would be for her to call her doctor and let him/her decide whether it can wait. If you can't get her to do that, then if the small pea sized lump doesn't grow any larger, waiting until her next appointment is probably o.k. Any increase in size or change in texture (becoming more firm or affixed to chest) then I would suggest you gently encourage her to make an appointment earlier.
