Jen, my RO's PA told me today how good my skin looked. I really did not say anything; yet again was at a loss for words. I met with my friend afterwards who is starting rads next week. She told me I should have said, " no, YOUR skin looks good. I am missing some". She is learning from all of mistakes. I told her abput the Sharpies, so she had them take out a new one and put it on her shelf with her stuff. She is going to push a few issues that I should have. I sure hope your skin is healing.
I hope everyone is having a good week. These weeks sure go a bit faster now that chemo is done!!!!
-
Maybe what they mean is "the skin you have looks good". As in no gangrene or something?
OK has anyone had their period come back? Tonight I feel like mine wants to. I'm crampy exactly like I used to be a week befor. If it does come back, should I call MO? Or is it normal?
-
Jen, About half of my Sept 13 gals had theirs come back. Pretty normal
-
Jenn I had the weird period pains about a week ago. I couldn't have thought it was going to come back but it didn't show. Doeant really matter anyway seeing as the doc is going to take my womanhood from me soon.
-
Period pain - could be ovulating? See if AF comes 2 weeks after.
I have been meaning to mention - about 8-10 days into rads, I asked if I could just wear my zip up sweatshirt into treatment room, and they said yes. So, now I just go braless with sweatshirt, unzip and remove one arm as you would from the robe. I just hated all that undressing and dressing. I sometimes do take the time to slip on my sports bra and t-shirt after treatment, but that's mainly because I apply my miaderm while I'm undressed. It makes the whole thing a little less time, and not feeling so exposed in those robe (which I never seem to grab the right size because it's always gaping).
I have been rubbing my head incessantly as I have been doing since being bald, and now the hair that I have is sooo soft - I wouldn't call it duck fuzz because it's tighter than that, but it reminded me of something, I couldn't put my finger on it. I asked DH to rub it and see if it reminded him, but it didn't. Then I finally realized what it is - fur, it reminds me of dog fur (of course, just washed :-)
Lynne
-
Lynne, I rub my furry head incessantly too!!
-
I've been using Miaderm since I started rads, so I used 2 tubes ding treatment. Miaderm worked great until the boosts. Once my skin blistered I was told to only use Miaderm on areas that were not peeling or open. I tried Aquaphor but that seems to make things worse, so Cetaphil cream feels the best right now. I have a third tube of Miaderm which I will likely resume using once the peeling stops.
Littleblue, my RO also said I held up well. Since my skin looks like crap. I assume that means psychologically as I did not try to kill him, cry hopelessly during treatment. or extend my arms and legs to prevent them rolling me into the unit (like my dog does when I'm trying to put her in the carrier.)
-
Lynn - everyone in art class rubbed my head...they all agreed it felt like cat fur.
-
This discussion is interesting for those interested in BC research - it's an AMA from a researcher on Breast Cancer metstateses.

I too love rubbing my head. I just got done spending 4 days with my daughter in a hotel room. She would reach over in bed and pet my head!
-
I rub my hair all the time too. It feels like a bunny's fur. My family rubs my head as well!
I am three weeks post final rads and my skin is terrific. No open areas or peeling anymore. You can still see the radiated area because it looks like it has a tan. I still put Aveeno on it although I likely don't have to anymore.
Re periods...I had one heavy one in July, just after chemo finished (I hadn't had one since Feb. other than occasional spotting). I have not had one since. I do not miss them. Not one little bit. 😀 I'll be having my uterus and ovaries out soon and then bleeding will become a distant memory. Addie, your ovaries are not what make you a woman. Your love for your husband and children, your presence...those are what make you a woman. Yes, cancer took from you and all of us some body parts but it cannot take away who we are.
Hope you are all having a great weekend!
Andrea

Andrea, my skin held up really well too. Will be 3 weeks post Monday. I'm still lotioning two-three times daily. Peeling in just a couple spots. Still tan discoloration but I can live with that.
I see my dermatologist this next week for my annual skin check and will be interested to get her treatment plan post chemo and rads for good skin, hair, and nail care. My brows and eyelashes are falling out now more and it has been 3 months since last chemo?! I do see lots of new little hairs but find it so strange that this is happening now.
I also have not had a period since Feb. And I was real irregular before that sometimes 3 or 4 months without. Was really hoping not to have to do Tamoxifen but RO says positive results outweigh and they are now looking at long term 10yr recommendations. Going to go into this with a positive attitude and I'm not going to dwell on the side effects.
On another issue went to the grocery store with just a hat, pink ribbon earrings, pink sweatshirt with pink ribbon logo. Checkout lady, who I have seen before but not in recent months, says "oh my goodness what happened to all your long, beautiful black hair?" Me thinking to myself "she really just said that to me". Errrghhh Really?! I'm sure she was just making conversation and didn't realize how offended and embarrassed I was in front of the whole checkout line.
-
Renee, yeesh. That was really insensitive of the checker! Sorry you had to deal with that.
Andrea, glad your skin is doing awesom!
Well, no period. Hopefully it stays gone, I like knowing chemo is still working! At least until I get genetic testing and find out weather I should have them removed or not.
Second hair trim today, courtesy of DH. Think I may try natural henna in it tomorrow. If it turns orange I'm ok with that. Not so ok with this piebald thing I've got going on..
-
Andrea and Renee, so glad you are healing well. I still have some open areas, but they are healing. I finally turned the corner.
I love rubbing my head. The only reason i have not colored it yet is that it's so soft now!!!
Today I put the exclamation point on F*** YOU cancer! I did the Des Moines half marathon. I was just hoping to beat my chemo time by a minute. I beat it by 17 minutes! It is nice to have hemoglobin !!!!!!
-
Went ahead and dyed my hair with this Lorna organic stuff I got on discount at the health food store. It's more cinnamon than grey now! Nothing weird happened lol
-
Kbee you are an inspiration always, but today you sure did put the exclamation point in it! 17 minutes faster! Wow
YOU GO GIRL!
-
Kbeee, Way to go! Bet that felt good!
-
Kbeee... You rock!!!
LITTLEBLUE - look at all that hair on that nicely shaped head!! Nice color.
-
Great time, Kbeee!
Jen, you have a pleasing head of hair.
I'm running around like a nut job (technical term) getting ready for a very busy work week. Apologies in advance if I'm remiss in posting for a few days.
-
Hooray kbeee!!! So jealous that you have hemoglobin and Jen has hair!!! ;-)
Just showered and am getting ready to apply my emla cream before I head to hospital for bmx and immediate diep. I feel like I can see my 'finish line' around the bend. Praying for the sentinal node to be negative!!! See you all around here in a few days.
-
DizzPark- hope everything goes smoothly!
LittleBlue- look at all that hair!!!!!
-
Dizz, praying for a smooth surgery and recovery.....and negative path results!!
gko: A little late, but CONGRATS on finishing rads!!! I know just what you mean about your garden...my yard was neglected this summer but next year will be different. Your painting is beautiful!
Lynne, so happy your skin held up well! Thanks for posting your pics, it gives me hope in case I need rads.
Andrea and Renee, glad you both are healing up well too!!
Renee, I'm sorry that the cashier embarrassed you like that, what in the world do people mean?? UGH!
Littleblue, your hair looks great!! I'm going to get the nerve up to color mine once my scalp doesn't show through.
CONGRATS KB on the marathon! Your time was great...you go!
I've been dealing with alot of fatigue, etc since my final taxol....the fog is lifting finally. PE is better, the hands are improving faster than my feet. I'm still waiting for the rads consult....I told MO's office that I preferred a different RO than the one they were sending me to. Still havent heard anything.
I rub my furry hair alot too. Oh, that brings to mind..what kind of shampoo is everyone using? I've been using Aveeno Baby shampoo for awhile, but wondered if its time to switch to something else.
-
Dizz- sending positive, healing thoughts and plenty of mojo. See you on the flip side!
-
Thinking about you Dizz! Hope it all goes well and you love your results!
-
good luck dizzpark!!
-
Dizz, wishing you a successful, complication-free surgery. I know from friends that the first week or so after DIEP is rough, but the results should be worth it! Hoping for all good news from pathology
-
Dizzpark good luck thinking of you and hoping good news! Keep us informed.
Littleblue your hair looks great and so nice and even!
So today did my annual dermatology skin check. A dark spot on the top of my head is suspicious and can't be ruled out for melanoma without a biopsy. So biopsy my head doc did. A couple of sutures. So now the waiting...could be two weeks before results come back. Hopefully much sooner. My emotions are all over the place but mostly just angry. I'd like a punching bag to just beat on for awhile. Best to keep myself super busy and not thinking.
Looking forward to spa night tomorrow at my cancer wellness center.
😀
-
Renee, sorry you are dealing with more waiting. I really, really need to get in to the dermatologist for a check up. I am past due.
-
Ginger, you must have TON of hair! I'm still using baby shampoo-figure I'll kill the bottle and then never use it again! Been rubbing lots of coconut oil into my hair and scalp for conditioner though lol. It seems to work- even after coloring my hair is still really soft.
Renee! No! No melanoma! Yeesh. My DH just had a melanoma scare. Good thing your derm could see your scalp! Poor dear, you deserve to hit something. Punching bag at your gym perhaps? Thinking of you!
-
Renee- I would be angry too. But better to see it and deal with it. I know that doesn't help. Hope the sutures don't hurt. And the waiting sucks. Sending a hug.
