That is not entirely true regarding insurance. If your policy is rescinded the PREMIUMS are refunded, but they pay no claims as of the issuance of the policy. You could owe them money

Can someone post links to this "Scandinavian connection"? My father's side (where there is BC) is Swedish, my grandparents were 100% Swedish.
-
summer - I'll see if I can dig out what I have this evening
-
Thank you, farmerlucy! I'm veryinterested in those links as well.

Very good point about the insurance! I did not even think about that.
-
Here is an article that refers to the scandanavian link, though it is not the one I originally saw. Also, as a side note, my older sister passed from a Wilms tumor (kidney cancer) at the age of four. I did read another article that linked the braca 2 gene to familial Wilms tumors. I do have that article in case anyone wants it.
This article references the Scandanavian connection.

So my kit is on the way but I have a question for anyone who has used Color Genomics. Do they also send you a typed report of the results or are they just given over the phone?
-
My results were provided to me when I logged in online. I did not get a formal report to give to my onc. (I did print the online report but it was quite lengthy) I called and asked if I could get a formal report similar to what I received from Myriad. They said to check back in a couple weeks as they were developing one.
I just logged in and the same screen appears (no mutations plus a description). I did get a formal report after I spoke to the genetic counselor including the name and number of a genetic counselor my DD might contact to determine her own screening plan re: her familial risk.
-
Thanks, FarmerLucy!
-
I sent my sample off today. It was hard to make enough saliva! It seems like the results will be valid based on this page from their site:

-
My results just came in. 3 1/2 week turn around. No mutations! Breathing a sigh of relief for my children.
-
Wow Amy! That was a quick turnaround! Congrats!
-
Thank you farmerlucy! I couldn't believe it when I got the email this morning
-
Great news, Amy! I sent my sample a couple of weeks ago. Good to hear about the fast turnaround.
-
Thank you, Julie! Hopefully you'll get your results soon and that its great news too!
-
I got my results already. No mutations! I'm very relieved. It was only a 2 week turnaround. They received my kit on October 19th and I got an email this morning. Is there a need or benefit to talking with one of their genetic counselors?
-
Congrats Julie! That's awesome news! I didn't bother talking with one. Maybe I'll change my mind if someone can convince me
-
Thanks, Amy! Yes there doesn't seem to be a need to but maybe there is.
-
Is there anyone here that found a mutation using Color Gen testing?
-
I didn't have mutations but still felt like I had a few questions re: my daughter's risk w our family history. It was great and I figured it was free so why not.
-
Farmerlucy you would have to do another test by another company to be sure....? Just saying... False negative?
-
I honestly think that this co is extremely meticulous plus I'm comforted that Mary Claire King is on its board. I have no concerns about the results. Tho it is possible I have a gene not yet discovered. I did have a previous Brca (neg).
-
Yes, I tested positive for the Chek2 mutation. I was pretty suspicious since there was a lot of cancer on my father's side of the family. My insurance refused to pay for genetic testing, so I went the color genomics route. So, I have a greater chance of also getting colon cancer. I'm asking my children and my brother to get tested, since they all have a 50% chance of having it too. I did speak with the genetic counselor. It wasn't that helpful, since I already have had cancer, and have been treated and am being regularly monitored.
-
Bump, did anyone get a positive result from Color Gen?
-
ladies- I logged in to see if they'd improved their results reporting and you can now have an "official" copy of your results sent to your doc. I did just so my onc could see what the reporting is like, in case she wants to recommend it.
-
FarmerLucy, have you heard about 23andme.com - they do DNA testing with some medical, but it's not all medical. I'd rather do the Color Gen but I don't see but one post here that got a positive result.
-
I am a nurse with breast cancer who also works in a breast care center. One of my patients did the Color Genomics test in October and her results were positive for the BRCA genetic mutation. She had a prophylactic BMX 2 weeks ago. The genetic counselors tell me that only 15% of us with breast cancer have a genetic mutation so that would leave 85% of us with no mutations so I would expect the majority of us to have negative results.
-
Maureen - How crazy that you work in a breast care center. Both nurses at my original onc's office had had BC too. Contagious?? Just kidding!
-
The Color test is now available in Pennsylvania and Rhode Island.
The remaining states that aren't on board yet include Florida, Maryland, New York. -
John, I haven't seen many people here report a positive for any of the 19 genes. What do you think? I keep wondering if I should do the test, I might get a false sense of security.
