DCIS, Lumpectomy, and now IDC

I am 52 years old. Was diagnosed with 4mm DCIS, high grade, had Lumpectomy, and the surgeon said she had a hard time finding it. Received my Post Op results, and they said there was a small 4mm area of IDC that the Pathologist found. The margins were negative so all DCIS and IDC has been removed, but now they want to do the Lymph Node check. I am so scared, as it seems this cancer was growing from the time of Diagnostic Mammogram and Stereo Biopsy until I had my surgery.

Hi Max2004. So sorry you have to be here for this reason but want you to know that although it stinks getting upgraded to an invasive cancer, it is good that they did find it now rather than later. As for the lymph node check, this is pretty much status quo for anyone with invasive BC. Ask any questions here you like and someone with more knowledge than me about IDC will be along to answer your questions soon. We have a lot of very knowledgeable people here in this community. Ask away!

Hi April485! Thank you for your reply. I figured that it was the norm for Invasive Cancer. I am trying to find ways to deal with the waiting for results. It can be very scary at times.

As my journey continues, I am sure I will be on here with more questions!

    Take Care:)

    Hi Max,

I'm in a similar boat, but behind you by a few weeks. Is there an update that you're comfortable sharing? I've been thinking about you.

    Hi adot99,

Tomorrow is surgery day for me to have my lymph nodes checked. I am hoping they are negative, but will not know for sure until pathology report is back in a couple of weeks. After we know for sure on that, I will know what my next steps are.

Please let me know how you are doing, hoping for great results for the both of us!!

    Hi Max,

I'm doing great - lymph nodes negative and just DCIS! Had to have a re-excision this week, but that's no big deal. Hoping to hear I finally have clear margins this week.

Max2004 I had Lumpectomy for IDC they removed the invasive cancer and then they found another DCIS mass during the surgery and removed it. So your DCIS was IDC? I had one lymph node affeted and it was removed. In the Pathology report the Ki-67 rates the positives at 21.2% shows I have fast splitting cells and stated results: unfavorable. I didn't get the chance to ask for BS interpetation of this. The DCIS was not found prior to surgery. I had my surgery Oct. 23, 2015.
