Swollen Breast, pain - SCARED!
I posted the below yesterday (10/6) and this morning my symptoms have escalated. My left breast is now clearly larger than my right.. still with pain, warm within, and now nausea (prob from stress). I did speak with my doctor's oofice this morning and they assured me they would do all they could to get me seen by the surgeon for a biopsy hopefully today. That was at 10am and it's nearly clsoing of the day. I am so scared and frustrated. I just want to determine what is wrong and move forward appropriately. Anyone else having the same issue?
Hello All ~ I'm new to the group/page. I am 38yrs old, no BC history, and have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2yrs ago. I am doing great (no flares for 6months which is a huge improvement), but 2weeks ago I found a lump (size of a pea) in my left breast, close to my arm pit. I went to bed, and by morning I was in a lot of pain. Went to the doc that Friday. She referred me to get a mammogram and ultrasound, since she could feel the mass too but otherwise did not have any pain aside from the spot where the lump was found and warm sensations and pain to my nipple. The mammogram and US were completed Thursday. I was told I have dense tissue, they could not see anything (neg viewing) and told to follow up with my Gyno. I left there elated thinking I could then just wait for it to go away. Wrong! On my way to work the next morning, Fri, my Gyno called to say I needed to see a surgeon to discuss a biopsy. The soonest they could schedule was 10/15. So I booked, but by Mon morning it's gotten larger, I'm in so much pain. In my breast, nipple, shoulder, neck and top of my back. Still, no visual redness, discharge, or spots on my breast. I emailed my doc, and she then requested to push up my appt to Mon (10/12). I'm scared TERRIBLY!! Trying not to obsess, but I'm emotionally and physically drained. Should I be worried?

Are you running a fever? The most likely cause would be an infection, perhaps mastitis. If it gets worse you might want to get in to urgent care.

Hello Totoro ~ Thank you for your response. I don't have a fever at all .. just overall not feeling the best on the left upper portion of my body (breast, nipple, shoulder, arm and neck). I do believe that my lymph nodes are swollen on the left side of my neck and in my left arm pit. My appointment on Monday CANNOT come soon enough -
Ssorry that you are going through this. I just wanted to wish you well on your appointment on Monday. Please let us know how it goes.

Ty so much lefty37! I tried all day to keep myself occupied so I don't stress too much, but everything is making me weepy eyed just thinking that everything could change tomorrow. Deep breaths - and I am going to ask for a MRI if they don't mention it. I can't take this "not knowing".

Dear TNS4life:
Good luck tomorrow. I wish you the best.

Went to the BS today .. And quite frankly I feel like not much was accomplished! She started it off by "well good news.. Cancer isn't painful".. After reading all of your posts I know this to not always be true. Then the ultrasound was neg again today. Which is good news, but what is wrong???? She said she believes it's my fibro that's causing my pain .. Ok, if that's the cause, explain the .. Now 2 masses (she clearly felt and noted), the swollen breast (only the left side), the now discharge (that she discovered today!).. I requested an MRI to which she explained that insurance would most likely not cover it because I'm not considered high risk (because neg/clear mg and us - and no family history). 2nd opinion???

I have 4 masses in same breast...2 were biopsies and benign...2 wait and see. Had discharge but only for a day....And pain which is manageable but why I went in first place. She may be right...but I would definitely be bothered if you and dr feel the masses but do not see them. If I were in your shoes a second opinion would not be out of the question...And would at least help ease your mind. Good luck to you.

Update: After I emailed my gyno expressing my frustration and asking why a biospy or MRI would not have been done, she told me to contact the BS and insist on an MRI and/or biospy and get a 2nd opinion if the BS did not comply. I put the wheels into motion this morning and have scheduled an appt with a 2nd BS at another breast center. Once that was scheduled, I got a call from the current BS office and was told that she is now willing to order the MRI... my guess is my gyno contacted the BS to push it thru. Which is fine and wonderful, but I do I go ahead with the 2nd appt before the MRI or complete the MRI 1st and then go to the 2nd BS? My head is SPINNING at the moment. I also got a call back from the nurse at the BS office (Voicemail) stating that my prolactin levels were normal. So why is my breast (only the left side) discharging??
