the taste buds are running away again and other food around is grossing me out more. Got fake cheese and white bread I'll try as a snack later (dr doesn't want me eating dairy for my tummy--ugh).

I've eaten nothing but carbs for days. Thank heaven I'm not gluten intolerant. But maybe if I were I wouldn't gain weight.

I hear you. my lunch consisted of stuffing. Trying to push protein just cause I know I'll get more energy but it is not at all appealing

i can't stomach protein. I tried eggs and meat all week and it was the only thing that made me actually vomit. I switched to custard rice pudding and all things carby.

Annie- have I told you how much I love you lately? Permission for Cheetos feels like such a blessing

Southern, you obviously raised a wonderful woman. Her post made me cry in every good way! Give her a big hug from us, especially those of us with little ones who would love an insight into that perspective.

I've been eating Chef Boyardee ravioli the last few weeks and I thought it was YOUR idea, Annie! Now I wonder who brought it up weeks ago where I thought, "Hey! Yeah!"

For those who are having nausea beyond day 4, my MO nurse warned me that our bodies metabolize the chemo drugs in about 72 hours after the infusion. What feels like 'nausea' after that point is actually indigestion. Try Pepcid AC. "And if you gain 3-4 pounds in between chemo treatments, I'll know that you're trying to eat the nausea away but it isn't the same nausea." I was surprised to hear this, but I think she's right. I've tested it out and it does seem to go that way. Maybe that would help?

Aaaand, in other news: I've had pain and tenderness in my neck since putting that stupid port in. I've told them about it and gotten the "well, they dig around so it's going to be sore" and "you have a short neck, so you're gonna feel the needle" explanations time and again. It finally got so bad from Friday and yesterday--I can feel almost like a golf ball in there and the pain is excruciating, causing fluid build-up and ear pain along with it--that I actually called the after-hours nurse. I NEVER do that. She talked with the doctor and I was told to observe for 12 hours and if my fever went up or the pain went off the charts, head to the ER.

I woke at 2AM with the pain and almost went then. I didn't want to wake and disturb hubby so I just raised myself up on pillows, took ibuprofen, and gritted my teeth through the night. I went early this morning and because my mom is visiting, hubby went with me. Glad he did. Turns out that a CT confirmed I do indeed have a DVT (deep vein thrombosis, a.k.a. blood clot) in my neck.

The ER doc talked with the oncology on-call doc, who said the medication they wanted me on is Lovenox injections. I asked how long (thinking 7-10 days, etc.) and he said, "six months". SIX MONTHS?!? I could feel my eyes start. Oh, and it's every twelve hours! Oh, and it burns/stings. I can't even get a 12-hour reprieve from all this cancer crap. They may have to go back in and redo the port itself, so I'll get some MORE scars all over me.

So there's no relief in the pain yet, I have no idea when that is going to be, and I feel like I have a time bomb in my neck. At what point am I out of danger from this thing?? I'm so over being a "warrior" and if one more person tells me that today, I swear I will punch them.

Listening to my hubby "keep the kids out of my hair" in the living room is excruciating. I need BP meds to handle this, oy! Why must there be so much screaming?!?

Amy go to a hemotologist to get an expert opinion. I'm so sorry. I'm praying for a quick dissolve.

CarolinaAmy - I am so glad you got your DVT checked out! I was on Lovenox for weeks pre- and post-port insertion. (I've been on Coumadin for years. They use Lovenox instead when you have surgery.)

Lovenox is a pain but very important to ensure you are clot free. Pinching your sub-q injection area *hard* during injection can minimize the sting.

I am so sympathetic. This sucks. (But clots suck worse. : (

now my sore port is worrying me. It's unreasonable paranoia.

Yeah, fb scares me now. I've been hacked and I've heard of closed group security breaches too. If everyone knew about me, no worries- though employers do have a sneaky way of finding things out on social media so I wouldn't post a pic on that closed page even. My old employer found me and I don't use my real name on fb! Be careful, I'm not paranoid here- that is if it would be horrible for you if what you post got out at some point in the future.
