Expanders, implants and MRI's

Just thinking ahead while I wait for surgery. I want to wait six months to a year to get an implant. Should I get expanders now? Also, decided on silicone implants but heard you have to have an MRI yearly to make sure they haven't ruptured. I can't have an MRI because I have pins and wires in my knee, they are holding the knee together. Can't have a CT scan either: I have Stage III kidney disease and have been told the contrast used for the scan would destroy my kidneys. Does this mean I'll have to settle for saline implants? I know these are questions for the plastic surgeon but, as I said, I'm trying to prepare myself while I wait.

I don't think annual MRI is the standard - when I had silicone implants I was told by PS 6 to 10 years but you are right I don't think you can have any kind of metal in your body for an MRI - I'm sure there are other methods of scanning silicone implants which would work. good luck
