Waiting for biopsy results
Hello, everyone. I'm 34yo and my obgyn found a lump about 3 weeks ago. I had a 3D mammogram and ultrasound. The 3D imaging showed nothing, but the lump was seen on the ultrasound. It was not fluid filled so it was not a cyst, so they kept calling it a "mass". Met with a breast surgeon and had a biopsy last Friday. Now, I am sitting here waiting for results. I've been trying to stay positive, but have a sick feeling. I was wondering what the BI RAD numbers mean and where you would find those? They aren't telling me much as of yet, so it's frustrating. During the biopsy the doctor said there's definitely something there but she wasn't sure what it was. Thanks for any support.

Birads range from 0 to 6. I had birad 4. Sispicious. had a mammo after I felt a lump and dr came in and said they found a mass. Freaked me out and i was scared. Had ti get anti anxiety medicine. Sent me for a sterotactic biopsy. Took 9 days to get biopsy and another 4 days for results. I had a lump removed 11 years ago under arm pit which came back benign. Grandmother had breast cancer. I couldn't get my head wrapped around it. Anyway I decided I was going to work and not think about it. I would only allow myself time to become knowledgeable about it. Biopsy came back benign. I cried when I was told. So sad and stressful time but stay positive. I tried. Kept telling myself don't worry until u have something to worry about. Now I have to be monitored every 6 months. Still scary

Hi B-Rid-
We want to welcome you to BCO. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we're glad you've found us. You've come to the right place for support.
You can read more about BI-RADS and how they're determined here: http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/testing/types.... Generally, the higher the number on a scale of 0-6, the more suspicious the mass, and more testing is required to determine if it's malignant or benign. It's not an exact science, however. Many of our members report having masses come back with BI-RADS 4 or higher, and the results of the biopsy turn out to be benign, like Elisa mentioned above. You'll get all of the information and characteristics of the mass on the pathology report, which your doctor will likely go over with you.
We know it's difficult, but try to stay positive! Please let us know when your results come back, we'll be thinking of you!

Hi! I finally received my results and my lump was benign. They said it is a fibroadenoma. They want to remove it because they said it can grow. Does anyone have experience with this? They also want me to have mammograms every 6 months because there are 2 other "spots" they're watching. I go Tuesday for consultation. Any advice would be appreciated.
