Pink ribbons and football

I'll be having my mx in mid-October. This is when teams wear magenta shoes or wrist guards to show "they care."

I will of course watch football. But something about the pink rubs me as being paternalistic or materialistic or whatever. For example, these dudes would not wear that hideous magenta otherwise nor would most people.

Does anyone else feel this way?

    I am a football fan and I don't particularly like the pink during October in the NFL, but they do auction the apparel and footwear worn by the players and the proceeds go to fund a program, now four years old, that helps pay for breast cancer screening in at least eight cities for underserved/underinsured women. This program, A Crucial Catch, is run in conjunction with the American Cancer Society.

    I'm not a fan of football, but our local high school team wears pink kneesocks for every game in October. I think it's pretty amazing that they can get high school boys to wear pink in public, and it's pretty awesome that they do it every year to show support for people battling bc. I think it teaches the boys compassion; and all people can benefit from that!

    I take the opportunity to wear blue in October. When I turn up at pink events, I do get a few looks.

    Hey I like that idea of wearing blue!

    My feelings are mixed. Yes it raises awareness and teaches compassion. But it's not the statement about how the nfl cares about women per se
