Mother Diagnosed
Hey everyone. I am on this page in support of my mom who was just diagnosed with stage 3 triple negative breast cancer on September 23, 2015. I am terrified and so is she. Her doctor told us how bad it was yesterday and all I can think about is the future and what it holds. I'm 21 years old and attend college. I don't plan on going back because I want and need to be here for my mom. She has a PET scan on Tueaday and she keeps saying "I'm going to light up like a Christmas tree" and honestly that scares me. I'm an only child and my mom is my best friend. She is going to be going through intense chemo and she is waiting for a call from Rochester because they want her at Mayo. My mother is a beautiful soul and it hurts that I might lose her. I guess I am looking for support. Advice on what to do. Treatments that worked. And success stories. My mom is preparing for the worst. I want to give her hope.

Hi hon. Im so sorry you have to be here but I think you will find this forum both comforting and educating. I was happy to hear she will be going to the Mayo Clinic. Being treated at the right facility is half there battle. Please don't give up yet. First you need to get all the facts. The waiting period is the hardest part of the process. Once you get all the information you will know exactly what you are dealing with and get fight it. There is a triple negative thread on the forum that will be very helpful. You sound like a wonderful daughter and she is very lucky to have you. Hang in there. Best of luck to both of you.....

Dear Terrified Daughter,
She is going to the best place possible. I too had Stage 3a TNBC and went to Mayo for all my treatments. I too at the beginning had PET Scans, Brain MRI's and other tests. I had 5 months of chemo, surgery and 6 weeks of radiation. When I had the surgery I got a PCR! No evidence of cancer. I had 20 lymph nodes removed and 5 were treatment affected. That means the chemo killed the cancer. Be there and help her in anyway you can. Right now the #1 thing for her is to fight but she can do it. It is awesome you are there for her! Mayo has pink ribbon mentors and mine was a 7 year TNBC survivor who helped me tremendously. Have her get one right away.
Hugs and Prayers,
Roxanne

Hello TerrifiedDaughter
I am so sorry to read about your Mum, but do not be afraid. She can get through this.
You might like to join the big thread Calling all TNs which has been going for sometime. It is full of informed, caring and supportive women who will help you and your Mum through this.
I am a more than ten years survivor of triple negative breast cancer, got through my treatment and am here to tell the tale and inspire and motivate others.
Thinking of you and saying look after yourself as well. Carers also need a lot of support.
Sending you my best wishes.
Sylvia xxxx

You are in exactly the right place, sweetie. There are plenty of beautiful women here who are survivors of exactly the stage and type that your mom has. And remember what I said in another thread--this in-between time from the initial diagnosis until you have the game plan in place is the absolute worst part of it. Hang on by your fingernails through it and I promise it will get better. Once you have a focus and direction, it will not feel so much like a nightmare you can't wake from. (((terrified))))

TD, your Mom is in great hands! Your Mom sounds similar to my diagnosis, though I was stage 2. The one thing I refused to do was allow my daughter to stop going to school. These things happen and while it's awful and terrible, strong women persevere in the face of adversity. I'm now almost three years out and my beautiful daughter is almost done with her degree in a double major. It gives me great pride that she understood what I really needed most was for everyone to continue moving forward.
Take care of your Mom, but take some classes to keep up. She will be proud of you !

Souldancer,
How thoughtful of a post. It is hard because I want to be here but we also have realized this is going to be longer than three months.
I am glad to hear that you are three years out! What great work God can do!
It is just the begining so we will take each day as it comes.
God bless :
