I put my purse at the front of the room so it would be too humiliating for me to flee (which I wanted to do at first, but got over). Several aspects made it better than middle school PE:

    1. No locker room! (Especially as an out lesbian middle schooler, the locker room was awful.)
    2. I was about the age, size, and shape of many of the women there, which was pleasing and meant I didn't get pulled into anxiety about my appearance.
    3. I stumbled through the moves, but am more fit that many of them were in other ways (like my stamina and ability to lean down to touch the floor).
    4. About a third were women of color, which is really rare in rural-ish PNW and which I find much more emotionally/socially comfortable.

    ETA:

    9/24: Fitbit steps + stretches + Zumba + 60 crunches + 150 pedals + resistance band + 10# lifts [10x4] + 1.25 (2.3 MPH) = 11 miles

ksusan now if you can avoid having the "I'm sitting in school (or work)in my underwear and everyone is staring at me" dream, you will have survived the PE trauma and mastered Zumba!

    I hate that dream.

:) That dream never bothers me, which is probably related to why I feel okay posting photos of my chest on the internet!

Got a call to fill in on my daughters and sons softball team, which was a blast. But man, I suck, and I used to be so good. I struck out first at bat. They said don't worry, we did first couple of games we played too!

But it was super fun, a bit of normalcy. I almost felt like saying no, that I shouldn't be playing softball because I just had breast cancer, chemo, etc., then said screw it and went and played

All right, I'm ready for some accountability. I've been lurking on this thread for weeks, and now that chemo is done, I have no excuse!

Ksusan, you have brought back my greatest fear: middle school gym class. So glad you triumphed! I'm not quite ready to go to class, but I got this dvd: http://www.amazon.com/Yoga-Cancer-Recovery-Claire-...=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1443190934&sr=1-1&keywords=ocean+soul+yoga&refinements=p_n_theme_browse-bin%3A2662338011,

and have been doing it every other day for the past week or so. It's pretty good - the woman is a bc survivor. Trying to alternate that with days of walking a 1.5 mile neighborhood loop.

Your posts have truly inspired me - thank you!

pennysgal - what do you like about the dvd? I'm thinking of getting it but would like your review. I read the others. I've never done yoga, so any specifics you give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Good for you, Theresa! Glad you had fun.

I must have missed some posts. Are you just starting Zumba, Susan? I used to love it but the class at my gym was so crowded and it was only once a week so I wasn't getting enough of a workout. Then I started Jazzercise. Might try Zumba again someday. I do love it.

Sloan15 - I have done yoga on and off for many years and I love it. The DVD is very easy to follow - there are several participants, all of whom have had cancer, so you can see different women of different ages/sizes doing the same pose, some with modifications and some more advanced. Lots of focus on chest/armpit/shoulder opening and stretching. There are two sessions - one 60 minutes, and one 30 minutes, which she calls Restorative. The instructor is very calm and has a soothing voice - but not in a creepy way - very easy to listen to.

I think this would be a good one for someone who hasn't done yoga in the past. Hope this helps!

1.5 hrs on the stairmaster level 7. Couple of sit ups. Armpit desquamation. Dry. 😊

1 hour spin class, 20 miles ridden, then went with my friend and we got a smoothie for lunch. Noticed after the fact that the "healthy smoothie" had like 50 grams of sugar. I couldda had a frappucino! No wonder I have trouble losing weight.

Littleblue, you have scales now? I looked up desquamation and it says skin coming off in scales. But dry is good?

Katy, hang in there. You are doing great with the excercise!

Italy, they claim dry is good. Desquamation is the word they use to describe losing my hide, so I ran with it. It kind of looks skaley...like a lizard that has been cooked on the grill until overdone. Like the goanna in crocodile dundee. You can eat it, but it tastes like sh#/!

    Everything counts!

Yeah, first Zumba--I was allowed this by PT if I did low-impact. I can't imagine more than 15 minutes on a stair master.

    9/25: Fitbit steps + stretches + 75 crunches + 200 pedals + resistance band + 4# floor triceps [10x2] + 5 planks + 1 hr T (2.4) = 5.7 miles

Pennysgal - Thank you. I ordered it on your recommendation. I'm looking forward to it especially after reading how breathing exercises help LE. Plus, I figured the calm part would help both my husband and me navigate this cancer stress.

    All right, Theresa!

I did slightly heavier yard work today (with sunscreen, gloves, and attention to how much I was working my arms). So great to get the side yard between houses cleared of gum tree shoots!

1.5 hrs stairmaster, 100 abs, flapped my arms some. Holding off on arm and chest work until healed from radiation...sooo...3 weeks maybe???

I was able to hold a plank for 60 seconds (as opposed to just contracting and letting go 5 times earlier this week). Ducks v. Utes means several hours with the television on. Snacks will be mostly crucifers. Non-lard-ass activity will stretches and weights, followed by lard-ass multi-tasking of finishing my syllabi and lesson plans for weeks 1-2.

I made a semi-healthy meal for my neice who dropped in from Eugene. Absolutely no cardio. Some gardening, stretched my heart to its maximum for 4 hours.
