SEPTEMBER 2015 Surgery Sisters

CBWitt: I'd suggest at least calling your surgeon and explaining the problem. Awaiting surgery is enough of a white-knuckle issue, but combined with quitting smoking?
-
Yes queenmomcat, it's been quite the emotional roller coaster to say the least in my household! My husband is quitting smoking also which makes it extra tense!
Oh I swear. It has been said that the Good Lord doesn't give us more than we can handle but I'd say I'm about tapped out! As I'm sure most of us are. I have a whole new respect for people fighting illness. I have been in healthcare my whole life & always felt compassionate but you never really KNOW until you've walked a mile in these shoes
-
Lovey1226, happy anniversary! Cbwitt Congratulations on no smoking! That's awesome. Rainnyc I hope you are recovering well and being treated like a queen.
-
it was the mx that triggered it, crazy enough it not like it's "oh no my boob is gone " that doesn't seem to bother me. I feel like it's a sadness that just doesn't go away. Mo put me on meds I'm praying they will help.but it could take up to 2 weeks before it works
-
hang in there everyone! Just found out I get two of my four drains removed on Friday and I'm super excited!! Then the best news ever, the pathology report came back and I'm cancer free!! Emotionally roller coaster since July. Now I can hopefully take a breather and health as I undergo expansions then final exchange.
Debbie
-
Debbie, congratulations on your clean pathology report and for getting drains out!!
-
Debbie- WTG on the clean report!!!!LorettaP4- Does ti feel more like a PPD kind of thing? I hope the meds help!!
-
Lovey1226, I can sure relate to you screaming at your husband about laundry! I did the same thing to mine but my rant was about him NOT helping me get the house in order prior to surgery. I was just off the rail yelling. He is very easy-going and knew it was a combination of being off my hormones for the first time in 30 years and the stress of waiting from June to Sept. for the surgery. However...I did have to show him how to turn on the vacuum! I should have asked for Xanax while I was waiting, but finally got it AFTER surgery because I still couldn't sleep. What I've learned is that ALL of us handle stress differently. We do ourselves a disservice when we compare our insides to others' outsides. We never know what anyone else is experiencing and they don't know what we're going through.
CBWitt 1970: Congrats on the 10 days of not smoking! That's quite an accomplishment with everything else that's going on. An anti-anxiety med could be a great help.
Hugs to all of us on this journey.

October 13 - Mastectomy, lymph node removal, TE placement and port placement.
-
I just got the call with the results of the pathology from all the JUNK they took out - NO CANCER!
-
Congrats readytorock!! Fabulous news
-
@39andhip. So glad it went well with the drain removal. YAY!! I am swelling and the doc said not to be upset if I swell a lot. My body will make fluid faster than my body can absorb it. Geez it's always something. Wondering what's up the oncologist's sleeve of tricks when I go next Monday. It has been nice being off chemo for 6 weeks...actually started feeling kinda "normal". Hope we never have drain removal ever again. And especially after sushi...ha. Take care and a God
-
@readytorock. YAY NO CANCER!! Great news.
-
congrats Debbie CABCER
-
Why are my leg muscles so sore when I haven't been doing anything, other than short walks. Does anyone know of any YouTube videos that are specifically for women who have had mastectomies? I think I need to get off my butt more, even though it hasn't been 3 weeks just yet.
-
Congrats, readytorock!!
-
3 days out from surgery...DS is in school and DH has taken the car for inspection, and I'm alone for the first time! I have my tea, and it's very peaceful. No sign of the path report yet--suspect it might not come until next week.
I can sort of tell the general anesthesia has cleared my system and I'm my own cranky self. I'm aware of twinges and achiness, but there's not that all-over feeling of being hit by a truck that was present yesterday and the day before. Drains (3) are a nuisance but stripping them isn't as difficult as I'd thought. I guess I'm coming back to life...
Mye and Solfeo, how are you doing? And good luck to those who are going in for surgery in the next few days.
-
what does everyone do with their day? I'm tired of sitting on my butt. I'm tired of stupid daytime TV. I ant get into a book. I glance at magazines but am not really interested. Kinda going stir crazy a bit.
-
Lharry - I hear you on the stir crazy thing. I've been reading a bunch and watching a bunch of DVDs. (Daytime TV sucks, so I watch nighttime TV during the day.) I stocked up on books so if I can't get into a book within, like, 20 pages, it goes away and I go onto the next one. I've also been making necklaces and hand made thank-you cards - which I will give to the many people who have been helping me through this. Oh, and I learned how to play Sodoku. But overall I'm so restless I actually started reading a work-related book today. I guess that's a good sign.
-
I work from home so I try to stay busy with that. But after my surgery I know I will be facing this same issue. I love to read so I've gotten a few books. And I've DVR'd some of my favorite shows to watch while I'm piled up in the recliner recuperating. But I must confess...I spend a lot of time on this page reading everyone's threads! I learn something new everyday. Love all of you ladies. You have helped me more in the last week find my peace & courage to move forward. Feeling so blessed to have found all of you
-
hello I am 4 days from surgery 1 and 3 days after surgery 2 for the hematoma I am not in any pain actually not on any pain meds just took a tyelonol 3 before bed last night..I am having a lot of trouble with constipation ugggggh tried everything it seems and I haven't gone since morning of surgery #1 any suggestions?
-
Steph, I have been told warm prune juice works wonders. I found two stool softeners twice per day plus oatmeal with ground flaxseed worked for me. You can also Google the recipe for drunk raisins.
-
Hey Ladies!! Sorry for y'all going stir crazy. I have been thinking of "things to do" during recovery. The PS seems to think I will need maybe 3 weeks off?! For some reason I though a DMX was a 4 to 6 week thing. But, I work from home doing everything on the pc. The big thing will be to sit at a desk and type.
By this time next week, it will be done and I hope to be in recovery. This whole frigging thing is so surreal. All I did was go in for a baseline Mammo having turned 40. Never in a million years did I see this crazy crap in the cards. Sorry, I'm having a "woe is me" moment. Things could be 400x's worse.
Next week, I plan on getting my hair done (hide the grays), maybe get a pedicure, and some friends are having a party this Sunday as a farewell to my boobs. A kid friendly boob voyage -- this should be entertaining!!! Hope everyone has a nice weekend- Sept Surgery sisters are in my prayers!!!
-
Yep, count me in the stir-crazy camp. And the cranky, tired-of-emptying-drains camp. The anesthesia has worn off, but not the aches and tugs where the drains are. Reading fiction and trashy magazines, but my attention span is pretty short and I've napped each day. Hoping this time next week I'll be more myself. Have friends bringing food for a few days starting tomorrow as DH will be working nights and DS can do a mean scrambled egg but that's not going to work every single night.
Hope the weather is lovely where you are and the weekend brings some enjoyment!
-
Rainnyc: not bad--you hit the completely batchit stir-crazy point about the same time I did, and I only had a lumpectomy w/no drains.
-
I think it's just being forced to sit around. Attention span too short to work, and I see stuff on the floor that should be vacuumed, and I'm not the one who's gonna do it.
Just, you know, cranky pants, and it doesn't really seem fair to take it out on my nearest and dearest, who are having to do things like haul me out of the depths of the sofa because I didn't really understand how hard that would be!
On the other hand, people ARE sending me gifts of chocolate and other treats, so my nearest and dearest are actually benefitting to some extent.
-
Too bad medical professionals don't use the same terminology as patients. I'd say the "crankypants" phase of recovery is quite the legitimate description; only question is...when?
-
Queen, it's like the way the supreme court justice described pornography: you know it when you see it!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_know_it_when_I_see...
Bored enough to go surfing for this stuff!
-
Exactly like how the Supreme Court judges when defendants have crossed the line into pornography....
-
Lovey - I love the idea of the kid-friendly farewell to boobs party! My kids are late teens, so that idea would be met with - I don't know? - horror?
Rainny - Are you still reading? I just finished Judy Blume's In the Unlikely Event - could not put it down, really engaging and an interesting story. (maybe you've read it already)
