Exercise and well being during chemo and radiation

Yesterday around 5 miles. My fitbit ran out of battery at 3.25 miles but I walked a ton after that. Yay! I finally get to post something here regarding exercise. Today will be a yard clean up day so we'll see what else I fit in.
-
Eileen, That is encouraging. 5 miles and less than a month after exchange.
-
Eileen- good for you! And all of that on top of a goat uhmmmm fiasco?
-
Yes, Friday was the "let's try something different" dinner party. Yesterday a friend came to visit & I suggested we walk to get lunch. I decided I knew better than my GPS and took a long cut
. So to and from lunch was about 3 miles. Last night we went to an outdoor movie screening. Nice weekend so far.

Finally got a long one in.... 10.4 miles, alternating running a mile and walking a mile. My feet are ready to fall off, but I am glad I got out there. 18,324 steps at noon, which makes up for the fact that I did not get 10,000 on rainy Friday

KBee - wow. Just wow.
-
yeah WOW!!! Kbee you rock
-
9/19: Fitbit steps = 4.18 miles
-
nice long beach walk and coffee with friend, toes in the water and sand. Didn't log crap, heading out shortly for another beach walk. So nice!
-
Kbee, Double....no triple WOW!

Question: What do we do for check ups after surgery and chemo. Maybe a dumb question, but my MO has said nothimg. I did ask the assistant and she said mammograms. Really? I will have implants. Mammogram of what? Some of you have opted for no reconstruction. So, do you get ultrasounds or just manual exams? How sbout us with implants? I will follow up on this at my next appointment in November. Anyone know much about this?

I painted siding when Ibgir home and after a shower took my son to the mall to get s shirt for homecoming that met the approval of his date! Suffice it to say we did a lot of walking! I handover 27,000 Fitbit steps today. I no longer feel at all guilty about Friday! I am going to put my feet up now!!!!! Tomorrow is Mondsy. Sigh. Back to the burn parlor

Woo, Kbeee!
-
Thanks everybody. We just sent my sister a silky robe and animal-print footies, emu oil, calendula lotion, Miaderm, Vitamin D, and some low-carb protein bars.
-
You always amaze me, Karen!
I am a bit jealous. I can't even make 10k steps lately. I can't believe how tired I still am almost 3 weeks out from surgery. But I am going to try to do an hour on the elliptical today, albeit slowly.

I've been a bit off the wagon this past week, and while I'd like to use chemo round number one as an excuse, honestly it has been more about the heat and my laziness (although the smoke from nearby forest fires is actually a legitimate reason not to walk outside, but I do have gym membership and could be walking inside)...however, I did have a nice weekend in the City (San Francisco) this weekend, and after watching a (horrible) Giants game Saturday I walked a mile and a half uphill in the heat (yes, the city was actually hot this weekend) to my hotel. Took a cab to dinner but on Sunday I walked to and through the mall and then to the BART (subway) to get back to the suburb where I left the car. It all counts.
My good intentions to walk this am were thwarted by unintentional sleeping in, so I guess I needed the extra rest. Off to the office, which I am finding much more exhausting than either walking or weekend fun. Hmmmm. (but at least the fact that I am late means I have to park in the far lot and walk further to my office!)
This will be a good week for me for walking from here on out, I hope, and I hope all here meet their exercise goals.
Sounds like a great care package for your sister, ksusan.

I went to the gym today for the first time since forever. 1h on the treadmill - not ready for anything bouncy yet - 3 miles.
My legs are sore which I guess means I kept up a good pace instead of that my muscles have completely atrophied. At least that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

9/20: Fitbit steps + stretches + 50 crunches + 125 pedals + resistance band + 10# lifts [30x3] + .5 hr T (2.4 MPH) = 4.25 miles
9/21: Fitbit steps + 1 hr T (2.3 MPH) + stretches + 120 crunches + 300 pedals + resistance band + 10# lifts [30x4] = 10.5 miles
-
Hit 10k steps just in time for tv & ice cream!
-
Holy moly, almost forgot to post. One hour spin class, 20 minutes weight lifting
-
They are re-roofing my house. I've never experienced such noise and mess. Hid in my bed all day with Jack and Tutti, who weren't too happy either. A total zero for today.
-
The kids have been keeping me so busy lately. Stopping by to say I haven't fallen off the wagon though, still keeping up with my walking 3+ miles a day.
Finally, got a PT appointment for myself. I want to start strength training in my arms but scared to trigger any lymphedema. Excited to be moving forward...

Jackbirdie: my sympathies! Roofing was nervewracking for me with a story between me and them, and no stress from medical treatment. [Backstory redacted.]
-
I wanted to say that although one night does not a trend make, the combination of the 1 mg sublingual + 5mg time released melatonin worked for me last night. I'll keep you all posted.
Getting out of Dodge (roofing zone) for a walk, hospice class and errands. Hope they're gone when I get back. At least in the cleanup process they are clearing the gutters and taking my manic pruning discards to the dump for me. Those are very good things.
-
Pouring rain - buckets! Was going to the gym, but guess I will take a nap. Gym later if the rain lets up!
-
Mile and a half walk this am around the 'hood...AND it made me a bit late for work so I had to park in the far parking lot. More walking. Yay. for me :-)

Like Tim Gunn says, "make it work"!!!
Good job
-
Katy: That's great. I hope it continues to work for you.
-
9/22: Fitbit steps + stretches + 100 crunches + 300 pedals + resistance band + 10# lifts [30x4] + .84 T (2.4 MPH) = 5.03 miles
-
I had an awful steps day yesterday of just about 4k. I can't figure out if the fitbit is not recording all the steps on the elliptical since I am going so slow. It seems like an hour would be more. Oh well. I was tired yesterday.
