@geewhiz - I will let you know how it is! I entered the lottery last Feb. kind of on a whim. I never thought I would get in! I was shocked when I got the email saying "Congratulations! You are entered in the 2015 NYC Marathon". WOW! I wasn't even running at the time. So I started. Then I got BC. Major speed bump. But am lucky that I have been able to go through with the training program. It has definitely been a life changer.

I had a late night hockey game, but got up early for Kings 5k this morning. The heat wave in LA, it was 78 degree at 7am and very humid…. but I had fun running with Kings players and fellow fans! I saw Kings players cheated, turned around after a half mile and walked back. LOL. Former Kings player and radio commentator Daryl Evans was the only one who ran the whole 5k. He was fast! I didn't set any time goal, just wanted to enjoy. But I ended up finishing in 29:27.The fastest 5k after my diagnosis. Yay!

Suzanne50, it's amazing you are running through chemo and training for marathon. Right after my diagnosis, I won the lottery and got into Nike Women's Half Marathon in SF. I wanted to run but the race was a few days after my 3rd chemo, so I couldn't run. :( Good luck on your training and race!

Well I did it ladies! My first half marathon is in the books and I did not finish last in my age group! Finished 8 th in my age group which was not bad. Finished in 2 hours and 14 min (10:15 pace) This is my hubby, he finished 5th in his group.imagey

Hey Suzanne50! I'm training for NYC as well. I'm starting Xeloda next week as my fourth line of treatment but I hear it is an easy chemo. Hopefully the hand foot syndrome doesn't effect my running. I just did UWS to Coney Island! 20 miles! I am so excited.

Gully that is great! I would love to get that time! Where's your next half? ;)

Rseman, 20 miles is amazing! Keep it up!

Oncearunner will get Suzanne50 on the calendar for NY too, and we will all cheer you both on that day.

HockeyCat - I admire your restraint indulging the "cheater" hockey players. A friend was apoplectic seeing a certain ubiquitous celebrity motivational participant being discreetly escorted off the runDisney Half course before the halfway point, only to reappear at the finish line, and also collect the Goofy and Dumbo medals the next day. She won't say the name without saying "cheating cheater" before it because of how stealthy it was. (Maybe there was a special portapotty backstage and the celeb then caught up and passed my friend without being noticed, but...) Whether hockey isn't as aerobic as it would seem or they're lazy or maybe just openly flattering the 5K participants by letting them "win", it's fun to see the celebrities turn around openly and not claim they really did it.

    Goldlining,

Not sure when the next will be. Maybe October...but will have to wait and see. It's difficult during the school year and the winter months are very cold here in Maine. I may have to find a running club, my hubby may be done :/

YAY Gully! I'd be thrilled if my 10k were that pace.

Can't wait to get back to moving. Was going to walk this weekend and then put all my energy into cleaning and organizing stuff for window install at the end of the week. I had help to lift stuff but still more than I probably should have done just a couple days after LX. I need to pick up my daughter at school today while DH has son at an appointment. I told her we'd walk since officially Im not cleared to drive

So happy to have discovered this thread!! As you may infer from my screen name, I run marathons. I have a goal to complete a 26.2 mile race in all of the 50 states and I am 39 states into it. I did my first marathon in 2000 and committed to doing one in each state after my DCIS diagnosis back in 2008, I was hoping to get state number 40 in on Labor Day weekend but had to defer that due to a second breast cancer diagnosis and surgery on August 5th. However, I'm happy to report that six weeks later I'm back on track. On a whim, I ran a half-marathon this past weekend and felt fine. It was one of the Divas series and they gave all participants pink tutus. (There was so much pink, I thought it was October already and I was doing a breast cancer run!) I also signed up for the Marshall University Marathon in WV on 11/1 and the Amica Seattle Marathon on 11/29. So, I just wanted to introduce myself on this thread and wish "happy running" to my fellow runners who also happen to be breast cancer survivors. Here is a pic of my partner and me coming across the finish line at Saturday's Diva Half. I'm the one on the left.

Gully - congrats on your first half! That is fabulous!!!

Rseman - Great you are running NYC too! I just had my 3rd chemo treatment yesterday and one more to go in early Oct. so hoping to keep plowing forward with training. I ran 8 miles this morning. A little chemo doesn't stop me.

great to see all these runners here putting one foot in front of the other!!

Took my first major walk since LX last week. Really hard not to start jogging. I found it frustrating for it to take so long to go 5k.

Weird I was never a runner until 2 1/2 years ago and notw it is so central to my life

Congratulations outrunning for getting out there. Even the walks will do you good (in the head even if the body is itching to run!)

Saw BS today. Cleared to do whatever running doesn't hurt. Yay. My calves hurt from all the walking yesterday so I think I'll wait to run until Saturday and go to my favorite trail so if I end up walking I'll still be thrilled to be there. Trainer recommended minute up one minute down x1

After updating the race list I decided to count how many races we are collectively registered for this year and we are sitting at 73 races. That's more than what we had at the end of the year last year :)

I ran the Army Run Half today and let's just say it was an experience. Certainly not my best time but considering that I haven't run since mid-July, I'm not surprised. It did not help that my tummy decided to give me trouble too. I really should not have had that Iced Cappuccino from Tim Hortons this morning on my way there. I normally stop and pick up a bagel but I was also thirsty. I had two goals going into it and they were to not finish last in my category and to take a selfie with the Governor General as we passed through Rideau Hall (the GG's official residence). I managed both so life is good. I did forget how many hills there were on this course, no major ones but lots of rolling ones.

Overall it was a great race as usual. I've run this event (either the half or the 5k) every year since it started in 2007 or 2008. It's a streak I hope too never break. Now it's time for a nice warm shower.

Thanks everyone for the kudos! You all are a great inspiration to me, running on chemo.... Wow you rock big time!!!!

Gee my hubby is a cutie, I agree, still my love after 25 years! He was also the best nurse ever during surgery, chemo etc.... Walked with me to keep me going.

I feel so grateful to be able to run freely again with no pain! It makes me feel so alive and happy!

Ocean put me down for the Maine half marathon on October 4 th ! I think I am hooked!

Those running marathons, wow not sure I could ever to that!

    Keeping tracking the miles ladies!

Ah, sadly I was not able to make it to the Great American Bacon Race on Saturday. I am recovering from a cold! My last chemo is on Tuesday! So I had to stay home. I did go to Flamingo Gardens earlier last week and took photos of some of the residents.

Oncearunner, thank you for updating our race entries. 73 is impressive! I'm happy that I run three 5k and two half marathons this year! I miss Tim Hortons.... I want Timbits!

    scrunchthecat, beautiful flamingo pictures!

I'm behind on my half marathon training. I was supposed to run 9 miles this weekend but only ran 6 miles... Training for half while playing hockey three times a week may not be realistic... I need to figure out my training schedule.

I'm on Tamoxifen right now, and supposed to switch to AI in a few years. I heard AI causes bad joint pains, so I want to run/play hockey as much as I can now. Anyone on AI still running and being active?

My son is playing on his college team, and just sent me a picture in his new uniform after the game that I cannot seem to post for you HockeyCat, grr. He has had 2 MAJOR concussions and the games this weekend were pretty chippy. 2 kids are now out for the year because of injuries. I told him if he so much as gets a headache, he's out. It was a long road back from the last concussion. His sense of smell was lost, his equilibrium etc. Not worth it!

    Outrunning your daughter is precious!

Scrunch it's awesome you got out and didn't sit at home!

I ran 10 miles Sunday. It's the furthest I have ever gone, and I did it with some painful blistered feet. It was ridiculously slow (my watch said 13 min miles, but I did stop to fix my shoes and relace etc and forgot to stop my watch). I am so tickled and I am starting to actually think that my goal of a half is going to happen!! I had a collapsed lung and major rads damage to my lung and I can finally feel my aerobic capacity building up. Woohoo!

geewhiz, you can do it! If you can do 10 miles, the excitement and cameraderie will finish the Half for you! Just keep up the training. So which Half will it be??

Apropos of nothing ;) the registration for runDisney The Dark Side (April 17, 2016) at WDW goes on sale TOMORROW at noon EST. Star Wars just not my cup of tea, but it's an inaugural and that, in combination with the Star Wars coast to coast challenge, will make it very fast selling. Also, there are still spaces available in the Tinker Bell Half at Disneyland (California) May 8 although the 10K and 10K/Half combination are sold out.

Then why not do it panthrah??

Thanks goldlining!! I actually really enjoyed the run. My new running partner was out of town, so I used the opportunity to push myself in a non-pressure situation (if that makes sense). She is a much more experienced runner, and I always feel like I am holding her up. I was curious to see if I could top my distance without her pacing us so I went a few miles over my target. So now mentally next week when we go to run 8 miles I can think to myself, "You got this...you did 10 before". LOL

Not sure of which half race yet. I have a crazy calendar with kid activities.

So once I complete a half, hopefully mid October...how long should I realistically train for a marathon? Do you think it's unrealistic to shoot for the Disney at the beginning of January? I think I would rather power through this and check it off the bucket list. It is really fun to train, but geewhiz I am exhausted quite a bit!

    Geewhiz,

I think if you keep going with your training after the half and building up mileage, you could definitely be ready for Disney in early January. Most marathon training programs are around 16 weeks so a mid-Oct. half should have your right where you need to be. You've probably already checked some training schedules but my personal favorites are those from Coach Jenny Hadfield or Hal Higdon. Disney was my first marathon back in 2000 and a lot of fun. Good luck on your upcoming half!!

reason why Im not signing up....Cause id want to get the Kessel Run challenge medal ( do both star wars halfs on both coasts) ive already signed up for the Disneyland ones...the 5k and 10k and agreed to work the sw half with the 501st ( star wars costuming group) so Id have to sign up for the half with a charity and raise funds then estimate about 1000 for the disney world trip ( flights, hotel, race, shopping) and being im not working ( have gone on 2 interviews for a job..but even that is only part time) Id feel a tad guilty spending this. BUT we do have hook ups as far as staying there.. but then flights etc. hubby said he didnt want to do it.. I told him fine... he can hold a sign up for me :p we are both part of the 501st which is The Dark Side ( bad guys doing good things for charity is the tag line) so its extremely fitting for us to do this... i have a handful more hours to try to twist his arm :p

geewhiz, concussion is scary. I play in recreational league, so no checking allowed. But I ran into someone and I had a minor concussion before. Hope your son makes full recovery. If you can run 10 miles, you can run half. For my first two half marathon, I only trained up to 10 miles. Like goldlining said, the race excitement and camaraderie will get you through the rest!

Since the first available Disney January Half marathon is 2017, unfortunately, you can definitely be ready by then. The WDW Half sold out in less than an hour when it opened. One of my group was late getting to her computer and had to register for the full marathon (fortunately, she does that distance.)

The Avengers Half Nov 15 in California is at 92%. The others (WDW January, Princess, Star Wars Light side) that are full sometimes have charity group spots available. As panthrah says, you can sometimes sign up with a charity group if you fundraise a great deal of money.

If you want to blow the doors off your motivation, registration for Disneyland PARIS inaugural Half opens on October 6 (with travel packages) and January 12 (registration only). The race is in September 2016. You can sign up for email reminders on the website. I imagine the accommodation is going to be breathtakingly expensive because it is on a normal off-season day, but I'm not even questioning if I'm going :)

Marathongirl - I have been using the Hal Higdon half plan and was going to just pick up where it left off with the half and continue onto the full marathon training plan. But it jumps in ONE week from 10 mile long run to a 15 mile long run - holy cow! How do you handle that?? Do you guys think its ok to ease into that with maybe a 12/13 mile run wedged in there? That's a rather daunting 5 mile jump.

I think I just figured out how to post my first pic in almost 6 years of being on here!!! Woohoo! This pic below is my hockey boy (recognize the number HockeyCat?) and his girlfriend after a game this weekend. And my youngest son is named Stevie. I am a southern girl at heart. No clue how I wound up with this bunch!!

Last day of Chemotherapy. Hooray! I do get to come back in 3 weeks for Vitamins H&P, which I will get indefinitely. Should not interfere with running - I am going to try to sign up for the Disney Star Wars run in April 2015 at NOON TODAY when the registration opens! This is Miami, so I have a chemo room with a view:
