On the wait list for The Martian by Andy Weir. Interest is high due to new movie with Matt Damon as the stranded astronaut. One reviewer dubbed him "a MacGyver on Mars".
-
Ruth- wonderful meme. I so agree! Thank you.
-
Finished The Girl in the Spider's Web. Excellent sequel! Job well-done. I think Stieg would be happy with the book.
-
here is my Jack depressed he didn't get picked first at library club. Later he was listening attentively to ayoung girl and laid his head on her knee as she read.
-

Ada Lovelace was Lord Byron's daughter and is considered among the giants who predicted the digital age....back in the 1800's!😇

Sad news has come from the literary world. Bestselling author Jackie Collins has died at 77 from BC.

Just finished Jonathan Franzen's "Purity" and not quite sure whether I liked it or not. Would be interested in others' opinions. Also just finished Louise Penny's 10th or 11th Inspector Gamache novel. I feel like Three Pines is my second home, AND am reading Lee Childs' latest Jack Reacher novel. (Two 8-hour trans-Atlantic flights, so I did a LOT of Kindle reading!)

If you like true escapism adventure about a lady and her boat, who meets and travels alongside a guy and his boat, this book may take you away to exotic shores for a while. (Kindle & paperback)
The boat lady is a breast cancer patient (though the story happens before then). www.rebeccaburg.com

Just finished ready 'quick read', "my husband's sweethearts" by Bridget Asher. described as undulted joy to read ...whipsmart, tender and eccentric" -
-
I got All the Light We Cannot See from the library. Good so far!
-
Glennie, I thoroughly enjoyed that book. Was touching on several levels. Came away with the same feeling I had from The Book Thief
Read Go Set a Watchman. Must say I did like it. Could see why it was not picked up at the time of its submission. Wasn't going to read it until I read an article from The New York Times.
-
Ruth! I guess that is one way to devour books!! Literally!😇
-
You can have your cake and eat it too

Read The Girl on the Train last week. I could not put it down so needless to say I was up most of the night. Great book but don't start it in the late afternoon.
-
That was one messed up Girl! Did not think the book lived up to the hype.
-
Liked Girl on a Train a lot better than Gone Girl. Good Read.
-
I liked Girl on a Train much more than Gone Girl too.
-
Agreed. Didn't care for Gone Girl at all.
Just finished a cute "fluff" book - Brown Owl's Guide to Life by Kate Harrison. The author is British and the book reunites 5 girls who were in Brownie Scouts together after their one time leader (Brown Owl) dies. I was just astounded all the memories that surfaced from my own years as a Brownie - age 8 & 9 - while reading the book. Even turning 3 times by the 'pond' when making the pledge. Not to mention earning the badges. Oh, and the different girls personalities in each group & how they turn out as adults. There are some differences between the British & American Scout programs, but this was a light, fun read.
