Fibroadenomatoid change

I'm new to this site and I'm hoping someone can offer some insight. I just turned 25 and a few months ago I found a lump in my right breast. I was sent for an ultrasound first due to my age and then sent to have a mammogram immediately after. Originally I was told if they suspected it was a fibroadenoma, they would just have be back for a follow up in 6 months since I was young. After the doctor saw the results from the mammogram she insisted on a needle core biopsy. I had the biopsy done 5 days later, by a different doctor who has not given me the most feedback on the results and I'm not feeling that confident about it. She also repeated over and over again how she wasn't sure she was getting the right lump after I had a slight panic attack about having to have this done, alone and living 800 miles away from my family, so she really just made me feel worse. I was called two days later and was simply told it was benign with no other information. Once I was given a hard copy of the results I saw the final diagnosis was "Stromal fibrosis with fibroadenomatoid change".When I later tried to find out more information about it, including scientific articles I couldn't find much information on it or conflicting information in regards to increased cancer chances, ago population it is found in and so on. I am wondering if anyone else information and if I should consider having it removed since cancer runs in my family and all kinds of cancer at that. Any opinions and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi klshaw,

    Sounds as though you had a stressful experience with the doctor who performed the biopsy. Perhaps you should set up an appointment to discuss the report with the first doctor or ordered the biopsy. This would allow you to understand the details. Please let us know what the doctor says!

    I would make an appointment with your doctor so that the results of your pathology report can be explained to you.   Write down your questions so that you won't forget to ask anything.  Bring a friend with you since your family does not live near you.  The extra set of ears is really helpful.  Find out the recommendation from the doctor regarding having the area biopsied. 

    Generally, doctors do not get concerned about benign results unless there is atypia in the diagnosis. 

    The main factor is that you trust your doctor and you feel confident with your doctors recommendation.

    I just had a stereotactic biopsy done after a recall magnfiication mammogram indicated BIRAD 5 for DCIS. I was in sheer panic because of the BIRAD 5 rating,which is 95% likely to be cancer, having been extremely healthy for all of my 60-some years. I started planning for treatment and all kinds of plan B's. Well, the biopsy came back as benign - fibroadenomatoid change. I can see how a biopsy was warranted, but wonder if the BIRAD 5 rating was overstated. A 4.1 or 4.2 would have sufficed, but the 5 put me in a panic. Does Medicare only pay for biopsies if the BiRad is 5, but not for 4? Now it's recommended that I have a recall mammogram in 6 months, but I've read that 6 month mammograms after benign biopsies don't usually show anything and may be a waste. I'm also wondering now if everytime I have a mammogram they are going to put me through this for every little thing. That 5 rating put me through one and a half weeks of emotional hell which could have been considerably moderated with a 4 rating that would give me more hope. Gr-r-r.
