Is Second Opinion Just One Visit?

All: Am getting ready to seek second/third opinions and have quick question. Most of the time, do you make the appointment and then take all films and path reports with you; the doctor looks at these while you wait; and then talks to you? Is it really just one session, or does it typically involve more than that? Thanks a lot.

I basically did this because my original diagnosis was fragmented with tests done here and there and "sort of" managed by a surgeon I didn't like at all. I researched and selected a major medical center with a breast clinic that I trusted and called for a second opinion appointment as a means to get all of my records to them and get assigned to a team of docs in a cohesive treatment plan. They needed a week to gather everything from the various hospitals and clinics I had been shuffled around to in my immediate area, then I had appointments with a medical oncologist and a surgical oncologist on the same day. That was on a Monday, on Friday I had a plethora of scans, then a few days later once those were in, I had a port placed and began treatment.

Notdone: Sounds like you went through a lot to to a cohesive treatment plan and get everything gathered in one place. Thanks for letting me know your process. Are you still having chemo now? How is it going for you?

Girld53, I had 3 opines. For each my records were sent electronically to each Breast Surgeon, I also consulted w Oncologists prior to surgery rather than after as I wanted an Oncologist opinion of proper treatment too. . Each consult was completed in 1 visit though some appointments were longer than others. Good luck. Don't be surprised if you receive discordant opinions.
