Ummm Ms. Sas, are you speed-reading again? You had dear Susan and me mixed up.
Thinking about you Ms CHEVY. Pain that bad should be looked at again. I am glad you going in to bug the Doc.again.
-
sas explain flu. I will of course make one. Love to do it. Thanks for the ice bag info. No I didn't see anything about jaw
Rosie, such a sweet idea for birthday. I had a big party for hubby once and told everyone to bring 25 dollars. It was a ...not scavenger hunt, everyone had to do something on the cards I wrote. 2 could've per car, so 50 dollars per car. They had funny stupid stuff to do and had to take pics. Like go to a restaurant take a pic with chef... Go to a playground and swing, knockk on someone's door and ask to vacuum , plant flower seed in someone's yard, get cuffed by police......and other funny stuff. The last thing they had to do was go to jewel and get a gift certificate and do a random act of kindness and give it to a stranger. The stories they came back with how these people really needed it at that time...hubby just lost job etc. was a beautiful way to end the fun......happy early birthday.
Momma ray, I put Claire in therapy when this started 14 years ago. She was 10. Old enough to have to talk to someone about it. Don't know about younger kids
Happy Thursday to all
-
He's being a total chit about this. For 3 years we've had a 4' real tree. We have a big 7' fake one. He says he's not going to do a tree anymore. Eyeore strikes again. I think I can do a 3' tree. He won't help. Arsehole.
-
Spookie, he is so not nice. grinchtothemax
Loverly?
Thank you Susan
-
Susan- Love your birthday idea! DH gave me my wish! He's a soft hearted guy and was a Golden Retriever in another life I am sure. Before we were married back in 1988 DH gave me a "Plan International" little boy from Sudan. The little fellow was Muslim and I still have the picture of him and his Mom in the desert smiling. That was my Valentine's Day present - the joy of giving to others. We have been members of Plan International from that day forward without missing a beat. All the kids we have helped through the years and written to. We have had kids from India, Nepal, China, Sudan, Vietnam and my kids wrote to them, us too. My DD2 and a young girl from a rural area in China really hit it off. It was a great penpal experience for the 2 of them. They connected as teenagers will. I think of it as sending little doves out into the world.
Back to reality.. the cat just hacked up a hairball. Gotta go. Why is it she can't do it on the wood floors and always hits the carpet hmm???
Mammaray- I didn't like radiation either.. scary and errie. Hugs. Chevy hugs your way too. Hope they get the pain sorted out.
-
Better the carpet than your bed Rosie. My DD has taken to putting a tarp over her bed so all she has to do is wet wipe it off. Not so lovely but functional. Back to packing and map making.
-
We went to the ER.... glad we did! She gave me another oxycodone, so I could tolerate the pain..... took x-rays.... No hardware or shifting of the bones...etc. THAT Doc said "Arthralgia".... also the Sciatic nerve is involved... I guess muscles wrap around it, and can cause more pain and numbness, like going from my knee down my lower leg.... Got another prescription in case I need it....
She also advised to use ice packs for 20 minutes, THEN the heating pad for 20 minutes, and explained why.... And TO STAY OFF THAT LEG AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, AND LAY OFF THE GARDENING AND PAINTING.... for awhile.... I knew that.... but a little late....
So it's still the muscles and Sciatic nerve .... I had Sciatica before, before I had the double laminectomy.... That was in about 1985.... I will do stretching as soon as this phase is over with......... And sitting in one place is bad also........ Anyway, my PC was on the right track.... but glad I also know it is Sciatica.... and that's why the numbness and those muscle spasm's wrapping around the Sciatic nerve.... I HOPE I understand it better.... thanks you guys, for all your help!
-
I mean I REALLY thank you for all your suggestions! Sass...you and Loverly wrote about the icing and then heat...! And I read the Piriformis article Lilgoats! I think I missed some of the posts, because I was gone, then just wanted to hurry and post what they said.... I PROMISE I will behave! xoxoxoxo
-
Whew!!!! Glad you don't have any more loose screws!!
Listen to the doc, will ya??
-
Rose: it's part of cat training, along with "inconvenient timing of hairballs" and/or "fistfights".
-
Queenie, you mean cat training as in when the cat trains us, right? Never had a cat that could be trained. They just let you know what is acceptable. Sophie, for instance, is not a box or bag cat. Does not like enclosures or tight spaces.
Susan, I think OKC has more hospitals per capita than any place in the world. You can't throw a cat without hitting some kind of medical facility. And LMG is near, and I of course am here. Always a spare bed.
Rose, so glad you're getting relief. Chevy, been there, done that, feeling your pain.
No word yet from doc on MRI. I finally got a neurologist appointment for October 27. -
Yes cats are independent critters! Just wish their aim was for wood not fabric or carpet. Please listen and lay low Chevy! Hope the pain gets better.
I ventured out for the first time since this drain put in. Hit the post office and Walmart. We lost our mail key and had to order a new one. I needed a pair of very stretchy pants to not be snug over the drain - the waistband makes it ache. I thought I was getting a UTI and asked my PCP for a UA. Sure enough it was positive which just floors me because I got IV clindamycin on Friday when I got the drain put in. Here I thought I was getting one Tues. just 3 days after - no pain only stinky urine. Geez I get all the luck. Anyway that explains the 100 degree temp the home health nurse got and my overwhelming fatigue. I just feel wiped after that itty bitty outing - shaky tired. PCP ordered antibiotics that I will pick up shortly give them time to fill it.. nap first.. OMD I am beat.
-
Magdalene: partly how cats train us, but I was thinking rather of the training cats receive in how to inconvenience their humans.(Mine have always puked on the carpet right next to the kitchen linoleum.)
-
Rose, you are the "Angelina Jolie" behind the scene. I really respect and admire you for that. We sponsored a child in Uganda once through an organization. Found out later how much the CEO made. We stopped donating. Hubby and I now only give to orphanages or charities we personally know the people who are running them. Money corrupts people or should I say it brings out the true characters in people. I am sad and embarrassed to say that Christian humanitarian organizations are not immuned from corruption. You are right about the joy of giving though. We work hard for our money and we should be wise about to whom we give it.
Ms. Chevy, it was Susan who suggested cold and heat compress. She beatme to it. Alternating the two really helped me to keep the pain down. Careful with sitting too long. Mine hurts more when I do. Lying down is the best. Can you see me lying down at work? Ok, maybe I should not have said that. Don't get any wrong ideas. Hah
-
Good afternoon ladies- just stopping in to say hi. Busy week on contract set up and biz meetings.
Today I am having at "at home" day that involves many thing. I started my morning by getting to some garage trim painting that has been calling to me for awhile. Bit of peeling and got that sanded down and the whole area freshen up. In October, I have some indoor trim painting to do. Something checked off the to do list that has been there for awhile. Cooler dry air finally to paint!
Loverly- any news on the hip pain/tests?
Rose- I find asking your husband to donate to the Syrian refugees so touching. I am going to donate as well, figuring out the best places where I can be sure the money goes to help the people and not in someone's admin pocket. I hope you are feeling comfortable with the fluid drain.
MammaRay- I am not currently in active treatment, outside of taking aromtase inhibitors which most people don't even know about, but here is what I found out when I was in the throes of things. The people who could hear it the best were either a) cancer survivors themselves or b) had helped someone else through it. Dealing with other people's questions (and judgement) about my treatment process was probably one of the worst things I dealt with. I did not tell a lot of people about my bc for professional reasons, but of those I did tell, I got a barrage of questions about things I could not even answer. I had opinions from people about what I should be doing to treat my cancer. And I had people judging me how I was coming through it. Bottom line, none of that helped anything.
What I learned to do in the beginning was just to figure out quickly who could help me when I needed it, and just really did not share that much with the rest. Pay attention to what people do for you, they are the ones who can support you. If someone started asking me probing questions that were not helpful, I changed the conversation. I would say "listen, I am really having a hard time so here is how you can help me." Give me a ride, pick up groceries, stop by for a visit, whatever. Give those people a JOB! It is okay to put yourself first and to not let them put themselves first with wanting to know everything.
I guess what I am saying is figure out who your inner circle is. The people that can be present with you around this. Not that they may not be scared, always know what to do, etc. but that they don't have a need to try to control the situation or conversations with their own fears. That they are genuinely supportive. Even now three years down the road, I don't talk about much of anything with people outside of my sister (who also had bc and is a provider) and my bc medical team. I have a couple good friends who helped me and will ask casually from time to time how I am doing? I will just share follow ups going well, doing okay so far.
Have you also considered a support group in your area? Some ladies here do that too, others (like me) don't for various reasons. I bet they have some great suggestions for dealing with the hard conversations with family we often have.
-
Liligoats, Nice link. I'm saying no more. Tried how many times and it was ignored. Ate a bowl of icecream. On big Bag, they're always making remarkes about Texas..........AHhhhhhhhhhhjust finished a second bowl.
-
Forgot to say I am glad the screws stay where they belong. i am sorry you are still in pain.
Ms. BLONDIE, terrible when people don't do their job as they should. Someone always endsup suffering as a result of that. I am really sorry u get the short end of the stick too.
Goats, you having a hard time cutting the cord? Hug
-
Loverof life- you are so right. some organizations are scams and total rip offs! Check them out first. Plan International has a reputation of 75% going to community projects, water, health, schools and girl's programs. Some agencies really have very good track records Unicef, Doctors Without Borders, Smile Train, etc.. an enormous amount of good gets accomplished and suffering alleviated. Good Karma spread or if you are Christian good works... personally I think it's just being a good person to pay it forward. Yay Jazzy- anything you donate gets matched! I hope they get tents, water and supplies to those people stuck outside of the Hungarian Border. I got my antibiotics and down the hatch! I should be feeling better in a day or so.
WE HAVE RAIN!!! l love it.. pitter patter... green is coming. Although the leaves are starting to change.
-
Rose- I believe we need to help our brothers and sisters everywhere. When one of us is suffering, we are all suffering.
I was at my fav consignment store yesterday and the owner told me how these two missionaries that had been in Syria and left with the clothing on their backs were in her store. Apparently the woman came in recently and bought a number of the things I took there on consignment in August. The missionaries are aged 86 and 94. The owner told me "your things went to a great home." There are people doing great things in the world we don't know about and can hardly believe when we hear about it. I feel glad to know she was able to refill her closet with some of my things.
-
momcat -that was pretty funny!
Smaartypaarty - I'm on the other side of the state, unfortunately.
MammaRay - my family knows all my treatment. Heck, I tell just about anyone who asks. If I can live it, they can hear it. But then maybe I'm a crazy person. Shut up Chevy. Sorry to hear you're doing rads again. I was lucky, my second time around was easy. I hope yours is easy also. Just annoying to have to be there daily.
Susan - wow! On the sweaters
blondie! ! -
Jazzy, doing XRay tomorrow after seeing GYN. I have been having painful cramps throughout my cycle on top of piriformis and lumbar pain. Thanks for asking. I was hoping to have an off day to relax without a doctor's appointment SIGH
Ms. Chevy, the stretches really help with the butt sprain besides alternating between hot and cold compresses. Tylenol does not help with inflammation. Aleve does. AHEMMM.....Ms. Sassy, I do listen. Sometimes it seems like I don't with my ADD, but I do. I still have the other ear hah! Hugs and thank you
-
Susan, How long does it take you to knit one of these sweaters? Make some in a 2 year size, kids grow so fast these days. They make me want to knit (I never seem to finish anything). I made one sweater for myself and it looked so much better on DS that I gave it to him. Years later I saw one of his girlfriends carefully cutting pills off.
-
So far my week has turned out pretty okay. My aunt is doing a bit better and is at the rehab facility. Had no big homework assignments this week, just continue with the discussions of last week's reading.
-
I slept most of the night! NOW it seems like it is more of the Sciatic pain, than anything else.... plus the numbness down my leg... I've HAD this before, and it's been so long, I had forgotten how painful it could feel! Yes, the ice and heat help!
I know it''s my own fault... just took awhile of abusing my back for it to really catch hold. I remember taking Ibuprofen for it before... Might try just the 2 Aleve this morning, and then again tonight.....I looked it up, and some people find more relief from that....Also says to keep moving, don't just lay there... and sitting IS the worst...
So since this whole mess seems to be muscular and nervical, I am doing stuff that should help both....
Phylliblabbermouthtothewholefamily.......... See, when EYE do that, I get a 10 minute lecture on what I should be doing! Not that I don't NEED that, BUT! That was funny, what you said.... I mean you said something ...... oh never MIND! Anyway you always make me laugh.... Even when you don't mean to.... because I just want to picture you on your porch in your rocker, with your hair up in rollers, and your trusty paint-ball gun, just WAiTING for the little neighborhood kids to walk by...........
Do you actually GET any trick-or-treaters on Halloween? Or do the Police just park outside your house.... at the ready???? They probably sit there eating donuts, just waiting for you to make your move. Then they turn their spot-light on, and you get BUSTED! I should be there WITH you! Hah! Can you just imagine? xoxo
-
Chevy- glad you are doing better. I am always grateful when I have a pain free day.
We get trick or treaters in my neighbhorhood, but I stopped doing it few years ago. The kids start at 5 p.m. and can go until later, but I would always turn the light off around 7:30- 8 p.m. The ones that come around later don't seem like "kids" to me and seem to be up to no good (casing homes, etc.) I love the fall season and Halloween, just not into the whole candy thing.
-
Morning Jazz! Yes, I know! I love when the "little" kids come up with their Parents! But the older ones ARE a little strange.... they probably DRIVE themselves to get treats... And maybe like you say, hang around to see what trouble they can get into. We shut our porch light off at 8.... Not that many people around here, even GIVE out treats!
Phylli goes on all night though.... Tricks AND treats! I USED to could..... Yes, I majored in English.... Hah!
-
Same thing with my neighborhood. I usually shut the light off at around 7:45, by then the kids have pretty much stopped coming or the candy supply has run out.
Thought I was going to get away with not having to read anything for class this week.... ha! Gotta read Virginia Woolf's "A Haunted House" and then in an 600-750 word essay due by the 28th of this month compare it Poe's "A Black Cat" in the manner of the dream state both are written in. The story by Woolf is only two stinkin' pages. Trying to figure out how I'm gonna pull off another stellar essay on these two. The previous essay was a piece of cake compared to this one!

Susan Did you say Explain Flu? Flu is a respiratory viral disease, passed by dropplets. Either by close contact where the dropplets 'fly' into your nose or mouth. Or from a freshly contaminated source where the virus hasn't died yet i.e handshaking, counter surfaces. We pick it up and transfer it to the mouth /nose.
It isn't associated with nausea or vomiting. Those are either virus or bacteria that take up housekeeping in our gut and create havoc. Is that okay?
In looking for jaw necrosis stuff I ran across this web page that had a wealth of info on the mouth Jaw necrosis is at the bottom
https://community.breastcancer.org/forum/73/topic/834699?page=1#idx_8
That scavenger hunt is a fun as anything I've ever heard of. Creative WOW.
Lillgoats what pages were all those pirifomis pages?
Marley's been off since mid August and hasn't signed in. Anyone have her contact info?
Frenchfrye glad you checked in. You were so much fun on the phone. We should do that more often. Hope today is as good as the last two
Spookie, on the tree. That's why I did the tree dress. Flip the dress off>>straighten the limbs and decorations>>flip on the light. DS suggested the decorations needed to come off and be reset. I asked if he'd help. He just smiled. I said their fine. Now The same thing happened with DBF and the answer was yes
> I smiled and said their just fine. LOL.
Chevy I love you, Don't behave, it wouldn't be fun. But please, read the stuff back a number of pages about piriformis. The back lying stretch is the number one movement that will reduce your pain. #1. I'll see if I can find the video on youtube, that showed the strtech I described in words. It was perfect. The last time I found it, my computer kept locking up. You can start today being pain free within hours, it works that good.
-
Sas, you've been here, where can I leave a tree all year? It's gonna be ok, I'll think of something, I always do. Besides.
Scorpios don't get mad, they get even. You'd think that dumb chit would have figured that out by now.
-
Jazzy, YAY more contracts
Chevy is your piriformis on the same side as the broken leg ? That will alter how you can do the stretch. See Chevy. Loverly says the stretches helped her.
OMD MAMARAY----------WEST POINT MARKET. Did you go in. I used to brunch all the way through. It will be gone soon. So sad. That's where I got Patty's Killer Brownies. Thank you Thank you. It was like going into food fairyland.
Blondie, I am up to chasing dragons. I'll change my avatar to Don Quixote.
Chevy when in bed place a firm pillow(like a couch cushion) Under your knees and a rolled towel under your neck. Adjust the rolled towel until it feels comfortable. This position will relax the entire spine and down to the knees. takes stress off everything. Yes, changing activity frequently is a good thing. Another thing that will that will cause the butt/piriformis to tighten is driving in the car. Try to avoid in the acute phase. When getting out swing both legs out at once. Use hands on the top door jamb to help pull yourself up. This avoids twisting the legs. Twisting is the nemesis of piriformis
Stairclimbing. Lead up with the good foot, step down with the bad--phrase we used---good go to heaven , bad go to hell. No twisting
Phillydoda----------procrastinating so much----Di's coming and company in 12 days
