ok, I'm back. First Susan, love your knitting. And what a cool idea.
Rose, so sorry, what a pain in the tummy! 😡 wish things were going easier.
Here's a couple more.
This is one I submitted for judging. They didn't judge it because they said there was no batting. It had flannel in between. Made me really mad.
-
Smaarty - I am just amazed imagining all the work going into the quilt show. They are all lovely. Sorry they didn't judge your beautiful rose. Batting/flannel I guess I don't see the difference.
Rosie Sweetie - after all the exhausting phone calls do they have the order straight now I hope. Bit of drainage, increasing or staying about the same? Serous or sero-sang? Damp? Maybe make a couple of calls to a bigger pharmacy (esp near a medical center) and see it they have any single packages of drain sponges - so you don't have to buy 50 of them or however they're packaged. Is that what is on it or is there a bigger bulkier surgical dressing? And Jazzy's right, it shouldn't be this hard. And you are sure no dummy to the medical community's wacko doings. The one blurb I read on ascites said irritation from the CA cells themselves, blocked lymph pathways, liver malfunction, etc onto worse stuff. I had never thought of CA cells being irritants.
-
For all the women here struggling today.
-
poo and pox on the judges Smaarty. It's bee u tee full!!!
-
Smaarty, your quilt is lovely,,, booo on them for not allowing it to be judged.
Rose, I hope you get this resolved ASAP. No care in healthcare is right,, sad to say.
-
Luvgoats- yep the order is there!! Good thing I know to ask, call back and follow up. I know that boxes of drain dressings will be pricey and it would be better to have it run through insurance. I gave away all my dressing supplies and paper tape when DD2 had her foot surgery August. At least I have an order. Home Health said they will be out tomorrow! I'll let ya know when I see them!
I have read that the cancer cells secrete factors that increase the permeablity, bigger proteins get in the space pulling more fluid out and of course the cancer blocks the lymph system with tumor load preventing drainage - maybe it's just all mechanical obstruction and osmotic pressures that cause the fluid shifts that create ascites. The cancer doesn't "get anything" it's just a byproduct of it's growth ? Cancer is pretty stupid since it kills the host it needs to survive. I was just floored when my albumin came back normal and the oncologist pointed out that the pathophysiology of malignant ascites is totally different then that of liver disease. I am more familiar with cirrhosis since DD1 has it. I never worked in oncology so it's a whole new discipline for me. I don't know why I want to understand what is going on, when I can't do much about it.
Smarty that sucks they disqualified felt. It looks beautiful. You are very creative with fabric - works of art. Jazzy your quote is perfect because that is what all cancer patients must do.. try and try again tomorrow. Be well ya'all. We have cloudy skies and rain for tomorrow - do we need it!
-
Hi Owlies, disappeared when DBF came home and got distracted.
Charlie got home. They didn't tell him he dropped. He thought he stayed at 99% . Disappointed in the 90%., but understands what he needs to do and watch. He meets with PCP in morning and will address it. Went through what to watch for is s/s's changes for bleeding b/c still concern that they're is a bleeder. So, for the moment he's stable. Again thanks from him and me for concern and prayers
Susan, ooh cuckoo's nest. Not good. Brother or Mother?
Jazzy and Loverly, love the photo bombs. More please
Please, go to Pinktober Revolution as well as Puketober.
Littlegoats, I think it was Carfax that had the listing.
Glennie, Gatorland, You are on the high ground LOL. From below you down to the keys we are bascically a sandbar at sea level. Doesn't bode well with climate change. You are in what's called the Marianna Highlands. In a long future time you will be on beachfront.
Hi Blondie Happy Thoughts. FF,Burger , and a milkshake. Reminds me of Big Boys as well as DQ.
Wren, no clue on the doc thing. I have found to often that when equipment is involved. People to a verbal from one to another and don't read the manual. It's all in their. When I used to teach Advanced Cardiac Life Support, I could always tell who read the textbook and who read the accompanying small algorithm book. Even the director didn't. They're were details in the book that weren't in the small book. One example, since 1985 elevation of the legs when someone's in cardiac arrest is a suggested thing to do, but it's not in the algorithm book. I'm the only one I've seen or heard bring it up or do it. They're are more, but you get the point. LOVED JAMA. always had to read one of the docs or get it from the medical library. On the internet the want money. Boohoo
Lilgoats Charlie's not sick enough for HH, but he will get her done. I'll check out about the oximeter. Maybe the are affordable now.
Susan what a beautiful idea, and you are so good at it. Can you post more, please?
Zills, and MammaRay, bad to be here. But very happy you have found each other to share things about the kids. Don't even think about taking your discussion somewhere else. Living vicariously through you. I have learned about Junie B. I think that is like our old Dick and Jane
-
Mema, You said it best from start to finish. Any chance you can repost it on Pinktober Revolution? For Posterity? OMD what if we had flags with penises on them with the words, Prostate Awareness. When someone got in our face with breasts and pink, we could wave and say "penises deserve as much attention as breasts." It'd be funny getting arrested for indecent exposure etc. which would be likely. It's allowable to flaunt breasts , but not penises. Maybe we should ask the mods to take it to there fund raiser for discussion? Chit that would be risking a sexual predator tag......Oh well.
Jazzy, about surgeons being cut happy. I've always referred to them as Cutters. They lose their medical knowledge shortly after residency. Their focus is a knife and a pickup. Except today it's a Harmonic Scalpel. Cauterizes and cuts all in one.
Loverly Prism is an ugly car and it hasn't got a could safety rating. I'm outdated though. Look on the National Highway Safety Transportation Admistration web siteNHSTA. Look for ratings-----there are a slew of things they rate. Crash index, occupant injury rating for driver and passenger. Roll over index . Lot's of things. Jack Gillis's Car Book is great, but expensive.
Queenie, loved
Smarrty love the pics More please
-
Rosie, Chit. At least you know how to make the system work. To add one thought. They're is a nurse on call. If you had insisted they would have sent her. The order was there. They are required to see you in 24 hours after order received. They can't see you the same day, b/c you supposedly were accessed by a medical professional. No excuse for not picking it up off the fax. None. The two companies I worked for had someone responsible for checking Sat & Sun. Plus, each had an admissions nurse. Plus an after hours mechanism. All kinds of practices to make sure things weren't missed.

Okay you guys.... a 99 Chevy Prizm...
This was the first and only brand new car I ever had.... And this is the one I got rid of when I got my 2011 Chevy Cruz.... See, the thing is, you just don't want to go rolling them over.... Chances are, ANY car will not fare well, nor will you! But it was a great car... It had 160,000 miles on it, and the only thing was, it got so hard to drive a stick shift after I broke my leg... FINALLY the clutch went out, and I got my Cruz! DH could work on that car... it didn't have all those fancy doo-dads, like the Cruz has....
I think I really over-worked my hip/back/leg when I was painting the bottom of the garage, trying to trim it with the damn Duck Tape.... It looks great, but bending over for about an hour must have really started the muscle spasm's I've been having... I finally called the Doc about 11 last night... she said to go ahead and take the Oxycodone that I had left over.... The 2 Aleve didn't help at all.... I took 2 more since then.... and ran out. I can get another prescription, but have to pick it up....But I'd rather wait and see if taking 2 Aleve morning and night will help me until it straightens out.... It CAN'T be bones... has to be muscles... so still no pole dancing! I'm doing good to walk lately!
Janie came over & brought a sandwich from Snarfs! BOY are they good! We'll eat the rest tonight.... Then I showed her how to blind-stitch hems, etc.... We watched Heidi, with Shirley Temple..... again.... Just simple things like this make me so happy! Hope you guys get your Doctor issues straightened out.... I'm just sorry you have to go through so much, just to feel 1/2 way normal.........
I like that about "Courage" Jazzy!
And Smarty!!!!!!!!! Just BEAUTIFUL! How fun to leave your "imprint" on our lives! Thanks for sharing......

ovaries still working so out they go. Hopefully by end of month. Started xgeva today. Why don't they take them in the beginning?
DAH wants to run in komen race. Really earning his name:) I get more response from a brick wall.
MR rads for what? Where? How long?
Gorgeous quilts and cute knitting. No talent here.
Rosie. Keep on them.
-
Sorry about your shoulder. How many rads? PT?
Go on an AI and xgeva and rescan early 2016. No big stuff (yet). Wait to see if zero estrogen works. Why don't they take the ovaries initially? It's feeding the cancer and don't need them and it's an easy procedure???
He's very concerned about my spine. Keeps pressing/tapping it. Hasn't touched my scar or armpit. Whatever. My hip and knee pain are noted but no meds given. Hope xgeva will help.
-
Rose, don't you just wanna kick someone sometimes? Grrr.
Tonight DH and I went to the new cancer support group (for patients and caregivers) at our church. Our leaders are a young couple, she had a rare cancer and is currently in remission; another couple who are their best friends came as their caregivers, having helped out a lot. There were 7 more of us, current and past, one whose mom has liver cancer but lives in another state, a lady who had her first cancer at 31, and 3 more since, and is 72 now; a lady who's just had surgery for kidney cancer, and 3 breast cancer gals including me; and DH. He really developed a rapport with the guy who was leading, and shared a lot about what he's been through with cancer, and with me. All in all it was a good evening.
I'm going to have an MRI on Wednesday of my lumbar spine, to get a new updated look at what's going on, and maybe see if anything can be done. I was told in 2010 that it was not operable, but spine tx has made some amazing strides in the past few years according to my PCP. Oh, and they're sending me to an open MRI, so I won't need valium and I can drive myself. Hooray for small blessings.
-
here's a few more. Hope you like.
The Aqua and orange is mine.
The 2 right ones are mine. We had 219 items this time. Most ever
-
Beautiful quilts
-
Nice.
-
MammaRay: cute pic of your son on bike!
Mags: great that your hubby had a connection at the group. And YAY for open MRI and no Valium. You go! Hope you get some answers,, and some relief in the near future.
Smaarty: beautiful quilts. I especially like the top one.
I too wonder about the estrogen. Mine was 100% estrogen +, but since they thought I was heading into menopause, decided not to do anything, hormone wise. Then when my estrogen levels shot back up to over 500, my GYN really pushed for total HX and MO agreed. (total cuz of uterine fibroids that were giving me issues, that she thought would go away with menopause) They rechecked my levels 3 weeks after surgery and estrogen was less than 15.
-
Zills, In 1996 my twin was dx'd with BC. We were 46. When I heard her Er+ was 100%. I said we needed to get busy and get the puppies out. WE both had total hysters and oophs out. It wasn't considered part of the plan then. But I knew the whole story hadn't been written. She had 1/34 nodes. Initially a MX followed a year later by a PMX. She went through Chemo. She couldn't tolerate Tamox and stopped it after a very short time. She never has had mets. She's 65 now. AI's hadn't been invented yet.
I developed BC at 59. I was in the prophy pipeline when it was found. I had considered from the time she was dx'd. Heavily discussed it in the three years prior to getting in the pipeline. Yeah, wish I had done it before la de da, but I'm here. I had a disasterous one time only chemo, and didn't tolerated the AI's. I was on AI's for maybe 2 1/2 years total. After the TAH/BSO, I did Fosamax for awhile, but was too wary of s.e.'s because of my strange metabolism. My strange metabolism was identified in 2014.
We are both osteopenic, but how much is lifestyle versus lack of estrogen is open to debate.
-
Yes on tamox. Switching to arimudex after sx. Tamox supposed to help build bones. No period since chemo two years ago. I'm 48.
MR I can't sew either. You CAN make a blanket. Michaels sells these kits where you tie fleece together. Look online for a coupon.
My DS learned to ride with no training wheels and DD learned to walk right after my sx. Keeps you motivated to see their determination. I bet little league is a hoot.
Must clean house, do laundry. Rethink dinner. Missing a key ingredient to make chili -tomatoes.
Hope Rosie got HH straightened out.
Good luck with MRI tomorrow mags.
Still hooked on earl grey. Pumpkin everything is out. Chemo did a number on my chai taste buds. Wonder if there is a mild one?
-
Nothing to do until its time to make dinner, so I'm relaxing now
-
Well the HHnurse came out just as she said she would and she was friendly and great. (not her fault the order didn't make it.) This pleurx system works well and the catheter pumped out 1.7 liters! It's a user friendly system and it surely beats waiting forever for a paracentesis , being poked and drained and driving home. I always feel a little weird after being drained and just want to lay down and nap - Now I can!!! Progress folks! this is patient friendly progress - better in all ways! I am a HAPPY CAMPER! Site looks good and the fluid looks the same. Yay.
Feels great to post all positive things. Smarty I love your quilts. You are very talented and the House quilt cracks me up, too cute. I have a book of "Art Quilts" that made it into museums and the ones done of portraits and woods and water just blow me away. To be able to imagine pieces of fabric put together to make such images - like composing music... notes collected and together make a symphony! Quilts are like symphonies of color and you get to wrap yourself up and be warm to boot!
Mammray your little boy is so cute. I remember those lovely days cheering my kids on when they learned to ride. It's fun for them and parents. Good luck with your treatment. That goes for Zills, Mags and all of you out there. Sassy I wish I had your courage and guts...you definitely are a blessing to your family I am sure they appreciate it. Hugs to you who might need one.. nice to have a day go well! Very very sweet.
-
Just logged on to see what you're up to, Rose...sounds like an upbeat day...smiling here for you. Think of you a lot...haven't been online very regularly but still thinking about everyone & sending hugs too!
-
Rose- that is such good news about getting the woman over to help you with the at home draining. What a relief you can do this yourself and not be dependent on apts, etc. and suffering until then. Sounds like they took a lot away again, I hope it helps you to feel better. i can hear the relief in your post.
Busy working on a contract for new work coming! But I did sneak to the state fair yesterday afternoon late in the day. I took this photo so you could see all the healthy food choices they had! I did not try the fried alligator, but think many of you in FL know about this. I like that it is served with fries.....
-
Okay! All good news today? I'm so happy for you little Rosie! YAY!
And I finally went to the Doc! It isn't my hip.... I have an "aute piriformus strain".... better than ugly I guess... got another prescription for oxycodone.... only 20 of them.... I know how and when I did it.... And finally once the PAIN localized, I figured it wasn't the bones in there.... I "strained my butt" she said....
So I'm supposed to take one pill with a 250mg Tylenol.... just like in the Hospital! I was taking 2 650 mg Tylenol last night, and this morning, and they didn't help at ALL! I'm so glad it wasn't anything serious.... I just have to behave, and do normal sensible things now.... like any older woman should.........
I have a prescription for physical therapy if I NEED it.... but once I get over this pain, I can do the exercises myself....
Cooling off here a bit.... it's sooooooooo nice.... Okay...talk to y'all later ....xoxoxo
-
Rose.... Glad to hear that you got relief.
-
Yay Rose!!
Strained your butt???? Only you!!!! It was those shoes, you're not fooling us!! You need a vacation. In Orlando. SOON. Dr Spookie has spoken.
-
Yay!!! Two happy news today. Need a nap now to recharge before picking kids up from school.BBL
-
SPOOKERS! Bout TIME you woke up! I know..... who ELSE would have done that? Muscle spasm's are NOT fun......... I'm just glad it wasn't something like "a screw loose" in my hip! Anywhere else is a given.... but not my hip! I would be terrified of going through some surgery again......
Yes, I've been taking a nap lately too! WITH a heating pad! Older people get to do that...... xoxoxo
-
Chevy: glad it is not your hip. Did you get some stretches, exercises for the piriformis strain? I had that problem once,, it is a pain in the butt!! Don't take more than 4000 mg of Tylenol in 24 hours.
-
I am so happy to read your post Rosevalley! Finally some good news!
