Birad 5 and biopsy was benign!

I just wanted to share because I've spent every night scouring these boards for hope it could be wrong. It does happen. Last Friday I had a tomosynthesis mammogram and an ultrasound. I was give a birad score of 5. I've already been referred to a surgeon and prepared for battle. My doctor called me tonight and said it came back as benign and inflammatory. She said she hasn't made a phone call like this her whole career. I just wanted to let others know have faith they CAN be wrong

I still need to follow up with the breast surgeon but I can feel the lump has gone down by at least 50% I will update after that appointment.

YAY!!!

Yes, no one should think a BIRAD 5 mean 100% that it is cancer. About 5% do come back B9. There are a couple of conditions that will mimic cancer on a mammogram. That is why a biopsy and only a biopsy can give a definitive result.

I have been here for many years, and I have seen a handful of women who were given a BIRAD 5 rating come back with B9 results. So pleased you are one of them!!!

I also had a BIRADS 5 on my left breast. Absolutely no cancer was found in the breast.
