Can we just get it over with?

I have a surg consult to get an excisional on Tuesday.

Every year, I get biopsied affter mammo/us and mri.

In the 1990s, my mom would go in for these biopsies that caused breast dimpling and dents but was benign. Until 2007 when it was bc. I have two younger sisters who got dx'd with bc at 39 and 40. One of them tested negative for brca 1 and 2.

I am 51. I am just into the change and having a bad time. HRT is off the table. Gabapentin and 1980s antidepressants, uh, no. I get a little Rx Vagifem, which will probably get dc'd after this scare.

I don't want another 20 years of regular scares that I have to take vacation time for. I don't want to be a sexless postmenopausal b, either frankly.

What does one have to have to get a pbmx?

    I did a PBM due to ALH and ADH after a visit to a genetic counselor and a 50% risk. Not everyone thought it was a good idea but my BS's nurse did a good job writing it up after many weeks of gently persistent calls from me. The insurance co approved it w no trouble. That was late 2011, it seems ins cos have tightened up since then. However I'd be willing to bet my PBM cost the insurance co less than multiple biopsies. My GC was my biggest advocate. And he was right. A small unseen invasive cancer was found in the final pathology. Not routine for sure but it certainly confirmed my decision.

    Certainly consult with the genetic counselor who advised your sister especially if her analysis was done more than two years ago - there is much more than just BRCA 1/2 to consider. The family history including those young ages at diagnosis does sound suspicious for something hereditary going on.

    For hot flashes, many women find relief with newer antidepressants like Effexor/venlaxafine or even the blood pressure drug clonidine. Be sure to ask your health care provider about these options.

    I'm going to talk to the genetic counselor at her first available. No one who's treating me thinks there ISN'T something in my family. I'm having a bilateral to remove the bc risk and am of course open to removing other things if genetic testing proves +..
