Can Fibroadenoma be confirmed without biopsy ?

hi I'm new , been lurking around a few days anxiously awaiting results

Long story short I've had 5 previous biopsy last one about 7 years ago ... All cysts benign

I've recently found a lump , had mammogram then sent for ultrasound , tech told me I had at least 50 lumps in just my left with many in my right as well as a concern for a lymphnode in my left axilla

My results were cysts & fibroadenoma , phew but my concern is in the past I only had cysts im now 45 this is new and I did not have a biopsy for confirmation , just a follow up in 6 months

I've also had nipple discharge , itchiness and some other lovely things going on that did not seem important , I've gone from a 36 b to a 36 D cup in less than 2 years

I'm more curious if I should just relax and wait the 6 months or find a dr that will do a biopsy for confirmation , im confused and it doesn't bring me inner peace I was hoping for

    Hi Meeshyell-

We want to welcome you to our community here at BCO. We're sorry for the worry that brings you here, but we hope you find the support and advice you need!

Based on your history, it's likely that the lump you found is another fibroadenoma. However, with the addition of new symptoms, we can see the cause for your concern. 6 months isn't long in the grand scheme of things, but can feel like forever, especially when you're worried. Did you ask your doctor about performing a biopsy now, rather than waiting? If you feel strongly about it, and would rather know now than wait 6 months, you should probably seek a second opinion. Peace of mind goes a long way.

Please keep us posted on what you decide to do!

Please insist on a biopsy. My supposed fibroadenoma went to invasive cancer in less than 5 years and Dr never advised biopsy. It was in lymph nodes also , even surgeon was surprised.

Well I've managed to get through the 6 month wait for my follow up Ultrasound , during the wait I was able to get copies of the findings back in Septrmber 2015 , My concern were the new findings , and no biopsy given just the wait and see approach

I was hoping someone could explain in terms I understand , I have attempted Dr.Google but he scares me !!

I have always had multiple cysts , 5 previous biopsies were done ,... I'm now 45

Right side ... Multiple cysts present at 12 o click position largest 1.6x1.7x..8 , There is a complex present at 11 o'clock showing an internal septation no color flow present <<< I'm not sure what anything about the 11 o clock one means ...

Left side at 12 o'clock palpable lesion also a cyst present with mobile debris no color flow measures 3.3 X 2.3 X 1.5

    At 12:30 there's a lobulated cyst , at 2 o'clock 3 cm from nipple there's a complex cyst measuring 1 X .6 X .3 cm with some color flow present , Also at 2 o'clock position 2cm from nipple there is a hypoechoic lesion measuring .7 X .7 X .3 cm this was shows color flow " this may represent a fibrodenoma ".

There is a lymph node present in the left axilla it's felt that it represents a benign lymph node

Impression: multiple cysts in both breasts some of which are complex these will need follow up in 6 months time

Lymph node "appears" to be benign

Hypoechoic lesion at 2 o'clock 2 cm from nipple likely representing a fibroadenoma needs follow up in 6 months time

What does internal septation mean ?

What does color flow present mean vs no color flow present ?

    TIA

Sorry this is so long I just can't find the answers ...

Yesterday I had my 6 month follow up !

Sadly I've moved 9 hours north , I was able to transfer in to my new city clinic , 4 weeks prior to my ultrasound I had given them my reports that I had !

They did the ultrasound BUT HAD NO previous films ONLY what I had given them to go upon , I got dressed and the technician said the dr wanted more pictures of the left breast at 2 o'clock so she took a bunch more measurements and told me since they had no previous films that it would be like starting over and I would require a follow up in 6 months !!!!!

So now it will be a full year ... I'm so confused and a bit upset can they not get my previous films ? Can I request them ? The words " may represent " and " most likely " do not bring me comfort especially with no biopsy

    Please advise : (

What should I do ? Wait 6 months again ? Is that safe to do based on my report ?

Can only advise getting a biopsy based on my experience... My lump was thought to be benign (several prior lumps with biopsies were benign) and 10 months later determined this one to be cancerous. Apparently having lots of this sort of thing makes us a bit jaded when we should be on higher alert...

I just had my yearly mammo on my surviving breast and I had a "vague hypoechoic area" and the radiologist suggested a biopsy. I spoke to the PA in my MO's office and she said they were being extra careful with me because of my history. I had a biopsy on that area and it turned out benign, but they want to look at it again in September. If you feel you need a biopsy to sleep better at night, get one. It was totally painless.
