Recurrence-What does a lump feel like in a reconstructed breast?
Hi, I didn't post this in the 'worried about recurrence (even though I am!), because I was really hoping for some of you to describe in detail what your 'recurrence lumps' felt like. I had bmx last september and lost my nipples, but still have my areolas. I had the 1.2cm IDC removed and then they found extensive DCIS all through the right breast - no lymph node involvement. Recently I found (although it could've been there before) on the outside of my areola, a small semi circle "ridge." Then on the left of the areola I feel a tiny lump, BUT they feel very DEEP. Does that make sense? I would think that if there is a recurrence, it would be in that small amount of breast tissue left directly under the skin. These "bumpies" feel deeper, almost like they're actually sitting on the implant or are part of the implant. Weird. Can you the ladies who have had mastectomies and then a recurrence, please explain what your lumps felt like, especially whether it felt "deep" or not? Thanks so much!

Gindugirl it is possible that the lumps you feel are scar tissue but if it is really worrying you, the best advice I can give is to get it checked or at least have a conversation with your doc.
Hoping that all is well.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Oh god I hope so! The thing that worries me is that I feel nothing on my left breast - no bump, lumps or anything. That was the non cancer breast that I had a prophylactic mx on. I just made appt with my surgical onc on Monday. I'll keep posted, but if anyone can describe what theirs felt like, I'd really appreciate it. I feel so nervous right now

Gindugirl it's good that you have made an appointment to see your doc.......you will always get the best reassurance from them. Try to relax in the mean time, yes, I know, easier said than done, but do try as worrying over a possibility is a waste of good living time.
Keeping you in my thoughts.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

chrissyb - I agree! And I love your signature. It is hard, but if anything, this dx has taught me to find happiness and joy no matter what is happening around me or to me. Thank you for reminding me to stay in that space.

my recurrence after mastectomy felt like a frozen pea. I could only feel it if I held up my arm a certain way. Docs were certain it was scar tissue since it is where they split the pec muscle. I asked for a biopsy for peace of mind. Thankfully. It was not scar tissue. It was a recurrence, but we caught it early. Keep us posted.

I need to ring him on Monday arvo. My body is shaking as if I was Freezing and I'm trying to work out if I'm stressed, cold or have an infection.
