Would surgery have already been cancelled?

    my mom is scheduled to have her radical modified masectomy on Friday. Her surgeon told her that if the cancer has spread anywhere that she would have chemo first. She had a CT scan last Monday, then a Bone scan on Thursday and another CT scan on Friday for her adrenal glands.

    My thought is that if anything majorly abnormal had been found on the CT scan on Monday that the surgery would have already been cancelled regardless of the results of the other tests as surgery availability is so precious here (in canada). The lady at her surgeons office said (on Thursday) that she would have already known but mom is still really nervous about it all. She also had her pre-op testing on Friday too.

    I think everything is probably fine but would love to put her mind at ease a bit.

    Any thoughts?

    call the DR and ask for the results. You can't assume no news is good news because there might have been a delay in processing or they might have lost the result. Drs are human too. So call for peace of mind.

    Apparently they have the results from the CT scan but were waiting for the bone scan results too.

    What type of BC did the biopsy show? ER/PR and HER2 status? Full body MRI? Had a PET scan? Biopsy on any area(s) that 'lit up'? Has she seen a MO (Medical Oncologist/Chemo Dr) or a RO (Radiological Oncologist/Rads Dr) for full TX (treatment) plan? So many questions that she needs answers to - it takes a team to treat BC successfully - not just a surgeon to operate.

    It is SOP for some to do neoadjuvant (pre-surgery) Chemo but is becoming much more common with other types to get the best outcome.

    If she has listed you with her Drs as being able to get her medical information, then you could call and ask questions if she can't/won't.

    We are in Canada and it is much different than how they do things in the states. She was referred to a rapid diagnostic assessment clinic where they did all of the testing (mamo, U.S, biopsy) then you see the surgical oncologist for results and if surgery is first, you plan that. If treatment is first, you go to a oncologist. So she has been having more tests (CT scan, Bone Scan and Adreneal gland scan) to make sure it hasn't spread. If it spread she would have chemo first and then surgery. If it hasn't spread she would have surgery and then chemo. She is stage 2 but doesn't have all of the details until after the surgery.

    Good news is that the surgeon called this morning. The cancer has not spread anywhere! Thank god for small miracles
