So...whats for dinner?

I had forgotten about the egg washing thing. And this from someone who raised chickens. The eggs we get from the Amish around here have chicken poop on them. Definitely not washed.
Managed to get to the gym today and am getting the rest of the week's exercise running up and down 2 sets of stairs moving the sprinkler every 45 minutes. We have gone from marshland to arid land. Not sure which I like better. Is there no happy medium? (rhetorical)
Tonight is sort of leftover night -- fresh peppers stuffed with leftover spanish rice, last night's corn on the cob removed from the cob and sliced cucumbers, onions and tomatoes that are not leftover.
Lacey - sorry about the allergies. DS was terribly allergic to ragweed when he was a kid but unfortunately outgrew all the others except that one. I expect he is suffering plenty right now. My doc just put me on the generic version of singulair to see if that doesn't help the coughing and congestion I'm dealing with STILL four weeks after my respiratory illness. So far I haven't noticed much difference but it can take several weeks I'm told. We'll see.
SK, I'm getting in line behind Luv. And I'm all for sweet potato fries and dipping sauce.
-
You all sound so great. Motorcycle trip with my I don't know what you call him cancelled as I am going to Maine instead with a friend and her family.. It's kind of like a "same time next year " thing, but neither of us are married, going on for 6 years, we get together when we want,
The garden is winding down. I wish that I made pesto last week, as the basil is getting a little flowery.
More and more squid.
Tried to quit my idiotic job and was offered more money so I continue 4 days a week. Went to my violin lesson today and teacher said I could definitely join a local orchestra with my playing ability but can't read music that well but can copy it if you play it for me. He is teaching me theory. Then says I can audition, not yet as I can't sight read fast enough. Thinking of going back to viola which was my first love. So I have a goal. And will learn more than playing with my "fun" group that will let me stand in anyway
Garden tomato basil garlic pasta and parmesan cheese for dinner. Sauce not cooked
Happy Weekend and Holiday!

Sk enjoy CA! And the sweet potatoes. And hope the condo thing gets better.
But for those who don't like poutain, so many of you like the fries with mayo. Um. Not me. LOL
Luv, it does take time. It's not fun. of course, after that bout for me , I was dx with bradycardia, slow heart rhythm. So then they told me I didn't actually have asthma but that the heart problems caused that coughing. Who'd have thought? So i got a pacemaker but gave up inhalers. LOL.
Lacey, lately I've stopped in to Cherry Berry more than i should. I usually go for the choc with choc sauce and choc stuff on it. LOL. But the last 3 times i went it was sherbet, mango chunks. Then pineapple yougurt. And I have fallen in love with the little ball of juice they make. I put them on the sherberts. Oh yum. They pop like blueberries! LOL
Auntienance, i love stuffed peppers. And I do the leftover things too.
Mommies I used to love shake and bake. But with only me most days it hardly pays. But it sounds lovely. And congrats on the CT scan!
Bedo, we don't have color up here yet either. But have a fun trip.
Susan I hope the condo thing ends soon. And so happy for you your markers are down so much!
Minus i love raspberries.
The apples on the farm were a big bust this year. The late Frost wiped them out. On the other hand, our apple tree oi our yard is dragging with them. They are just not ripe yet. Another 3 to 4 weeks yet.
I'm going to go to CO for a wedding for a nephew. I'm flying and driving home with my sis. Haven't done any flyng in the last 8 years or so. And even longer driving such a long distance.guess I just have to be brave and enjoy the ride. I just hope it has less "Scenic Detours" than my cancer journey. LOL. If anyone has a few prayers just hanging around, my SILhas been hospitalized 4 times in the last month. Part of my road trip is to see her in Montana on our way back to WI. My DH got back last month after spending 3 weeks with her.
I was thinking tacos for supper, but no lettuce here. So perhaps just a hamburger.
Much love to all.
-
Dinner was terrific. I love Shake and Bake but I've always had a problem keeping the coating on the chicken. My mom recently suggested to coat it with a little bit of mayo before putting it in the crumb coating. I did as she suggested and it worked!
Moon- thanks very much on the congrats on my CT Scan results
-
M0mmy - adding my congrats for the scan results.
Moon - so glad to see you posting more. Your trip sounds great. Do you have compression sleeves for the airplane? Glad you'll get to see your SIL in Montana.
Bedo - how nice to have the job begging you to stay. Have fun in Maine. I had a 'same time next year' friend for many years. Now we just talk on the phone twice a year.
Special - It's great that you can help sorting & tossing. My son is moving from Marin back into San Francisco - from 2800 sq ft back to 1150 sq ft. Glad he's not asking me to help since I'm sure what will go is all the furniture that he kept from my parents house when they died. I'll know it's gone next time i visit, but won't have to watch it going & will be biting my tongue not to say anything.
Nance/Lacey - seems like a bad year for allergies everywhere. I'm sleeping propped up to let the junk drain.
Dinner was leftovers - red leaf lettuce, cauliflower, tomato, beets & black olive w/re-heated garlic bread.

MOmmy Congratulations from me too!
I've been avoiding my MO and am way overdue. I don't think he will refill my anastrozole this time unless I go in.
Ruby the smart cat uses litter box. Gonzo the dumb cat uses it for poo and the corner floor by the tub for pee. I have tried everything, special odor remover. odor repellant for cats, and finally put a little letter box there i npreparation for my trip. Sure enough, this am pee behind the little box. I don't know how he did this. I could strangle him but I won't.
Looking forward to Maine food.
I think it Is too early for leaves.
-
Bedo maybe tape a pet grade Chux over the corner or at least under the corner of the litter box. I assume he is stone/UTI free. I had a cat once that was a stray from my mom's cabin. Hop A Long - 3 pawed believe he had been caught in a trap. Just when I got out of nursing school and started working nights. He was lonely OMG. Peed all over the clean clothes basket. Vet cleared of anything medical. Only solution was rehomed to my mom's dog groomer's house with lots of company.
Can't decide if tonight will be the ham steak or chicken salad sandwiches/french fries. DH's white bread is just about gone so I think it will have to be the ham steak.
-
Bedo, one of our cats used to do that, turns out she had bladder cysts. You might have it checked out. Although we had another cat that would get in the box then hang his butt out over the edge and pee. Maddening. I ended up putting large plastic mats under the boxes just so I could clean it up easier. We finally resolved it by putting two boxes side by side. Maybe he just wanted his space lol.
-
Bedo, they told me when I got the second cat that you need one more litter pan than you have cats----so that would have been three. I said no way, but put out 2. I had a senior kitty and a small kitten. Figured the old guy would go upstairs and the little one wold do the stairs. Turned out they did their little jobs upstairs and big jobs downstairs.....
Could it be he is not liking the litter pan?

Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!
I just finished wrestling with unripe peaches to make a raspberry/peach crisp for our beach assoc party. Thought I did well with the hard as rock brown sugar softening, and the improvised "hand paddling/cutting" for the crumb topping (thank you, arthritic hands:), but the varied unripe state of many of the peaches had me frustrated. I did cook up a few in some apricot nectar and made us a separate crisp from them. Have I mentioned that I suck at baking! And all this because I had fresh picked raspberries from VT (which at this point had been frozen
. Anyway it is done and I even cleaned up the zillion bowls used so DH does 't have to face them when he returns from the beach. I am "creative", he is "maintenance" in our house. He has been waiting for me to arrive at the beach before the peach dilemma held me hostage.
I also made an old fashioned pasta salad with ingredients I ended up not using when the doc vegans were here. I am actually going to label it "vegan", which may result in our having the whole bowl left for tomorrow's dinner. I doubt that many if our neighbors are of that diet mentality. But we shall see!
Bedo, hope your Maine trip is fun!
I am about to email a college friend in hopes that we can rendezvous when I am in Chicago at the end of the month on our way to the UMASS/ND football slaughter. It is always warm and enriching to re-connect with people we knew well "back in the day".
Haha, the cat dilemma discussion is leaving me feel relieved that I have a cat allergy!
-
We decided on the spur of the moment to go visit DSIL and DBIL in southwest Missouri on Monday, so I decided to move up our labor day bbq. So dinner is Memphis style ribs, baked beans and vinegar and oil slaw, with some sliced tomatoes I picked this morning.
We dug the potatoes this morning, quite a sweaty job in 90+ heat. As expected, it was a pretty puny yield. Way too much water and many of the seed potatoes rotted in the bed. But I have enough for several meals so tomorrow I'll make some potato salad with homemade mayo. That's what these food discussions do, make me want to make stuff. Not so, the cat discussion.
Susan, how did the inner beauty sauce turn out?
-
I saw this sauce in a newsletter from a restaurant DH and I would hope to visit when we win the lottery lol. I think I thought they might have a gourmet store, why I subscribed to their newsletter. Can you believe BCO's dictionary doesn't have gribiche.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauce_gribiche
Grilled Bacon Wrapped Rainbow Trout with Crushed New Potatoes, Dill Scented Gribiche, and Charred Okra
DH came home and made a chicken salad sandwich. Guess I'm off the hook for dinner.
-
Luv - It's so great to learn a new thing. The sauce sounds good. I'd just like to skip the calf's head & tripe in my trials.
-
The Inner Beauty Sauce is good, and spicy, but forget that stuff...... We did family dinner tonight with all four of us and the kids thanked us for the condo crap that we have put up with. And then, they gave us a gift. I am going to live to be a grandma! I am absolutely weeping.... I am going to be a grandma! *susan*

p.s. She is only one month along. We won't share this for at least two more months.
-
Oh Susan what a wonderful surprise and a neat way to tell you. Congrats G-Ma to be.
-
Congratulations Grandma Susan and Grandpa Mr. 02143. Makes up for lots of crap I bet. June?? May the condo gods shine on y'all if that's still in the plans.
-
I've had three cats, Pest (a Main Coon), Pooh (a 3 pound, fully grown black cat) and Jessie (a Main Coon).
Pest was a stray and adopted me. After I met Mickey, I was Pest's 2nd choice human. She was Velcro cat to Mickey.
Pooh was my 2nd cat. One of Sharon's co-workers talked Sharon into bringing home the last of the "apartment kittens".
Jessie was an animal shelter find..he looks a lot Pest and, according to the shelter paperwork, is now over 16 years old.
All of the cats knew, the first time they saw one, all about cat boxes.....
Dinner tonight.
I'm playing with pot roasts again......I got a cheap ($4/pound) cut of generic pot roast and am hoping the many hours in the slow cooker in a balsamic vinegar-soy sauce-Worcestershire sauce-beef broth-mustard-garlic liquid...will tenderize the meat. I got rid of all the sinew like stuff I could find in the meat, so I'm hoping it will work.....yet another experiment. I hope it won't be one of those, "If we have company...let's not serve this." results.. :-)
-
Oh Susan, how absolutely wonderful! Congratulations to all and my very best wishes!
-
Susan....I must have been posting while you were posting and didn't see your post....
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THAT IS SO COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Susan....YAY FOR,YOU AND THE WHOLE FAMILY!! This is such good and welcome news! And we won't whisper a peep about it!!
I am so happy for you all.....For the record...there was one vegan oriented gal at the beach dinner and a few other takers, but certainly half of the pasta salad came home with us.....minus any artichoke hearts. The peach/raspberry crisp was gone in a flash. I decided that there are so many pasta dishes at this social event we should hold a half marathon the following day to burn all those carbs!
-
auntie - I will organize and de-clutter you in exchange for sweet potato fries. Literally, will work for food, lol!
susan - OMG I am so excited for you!!!!!!!! That is awesome!
mommy - yay for your scan, sorry it took me so long! See my note below.
Our next door neighbor is laying new sod and had the irrigation guy there on Friday to check her sprinklers - he cut my Verizon FIOS line so we have been without landline, TV and computer since 2:30 on Friday afternoon. Friday night we watched Netflix stuff and last night unearthed the home movies - hilarious! The tech guy came this morning so we are back in business!
-
Special....nice to see how resourceful you are in the face of being "cut off"!
Have a great trip!
I need to get in line for that declutter service.

-
lacey - lol! I also took my iphone off wifi and could still use it for internet - I just hate typing on it. We also have so much concrete in this house to make it hurricane proof that it also makes it cellphone proof - so I have to be near a window or outside, which is too hot. It was a bit comedic when I was on the cellphone diagnosing the problem (we initially did not know it was the irrigation guy who had cut the line so I had to go through the backup battery reboot process) because the battery thing is in my closet behind the clothes and the phone won't work in there - so I had to run back and forth. The first call dropped after I was on hold for about 10 mins, so as soon as I got a human on call #2 after 10 mins I gave him the cell number and made him promise to call me back if the call dropped again. Ugh! What was funny was the panicked look on DD's face when she came home from work on Fri night and was faced with no electronic services, lol! She resorted to reading a book, which she does enjoy.
-
Congratulations to Grandma Susan!!!!
Dinner will be BLTs.
-
Roast chicken with root vegetables--more a fall dish which feels a bit silly as the weather's hot(tish) and humid (for Michigan) But nutritious and tasty.
-
Congratulations Susan and Mr. Susan...what a wonderful secret you have shared.....HUGS and HAPPY DANCES.
I have beef short ribs in the crockpot cooking with red wine, garlic and carrots. They looked kinda overly marbled, but My dad said he did not want me to make vegetable soup on his account, so I did this instead.
His sister is coming to stay for a month with him. I wish I knew something easy to make that I could put in the fridge for them to have. She gets here at 3:30 after flying all day probably. And I know she does not eat when she flies. My dad is of zero help, since he thinks tv dinners and fast food is the way to go. I asked him what kind of food he wanted me to stock the house with for her, and he said when she gets her, her and I will go shopping.....yes, they probably will after a day or two, but still I need something to feed her till that happens. . I can get melon and slice it up or do a fruit salad, but I need a main dish that isn't much fuss. He hate's meat loaf and is diabetic and she watches her calories so she can be a size 12 at age 80.......
Ideas?
-
Redhead - lasagna's always easy. Laurie's Salsa Chicken? Couldn't be easier w/3 ingredients plus cheese. A quiche? My Dad loved just crackers & cheese.
-
Red -- how about some cold salads - chicken, egg, tuna, etc., along with some decent breads. Quiche is good too or perhaps a rotisserie chicken with some veggies on the side.
Tonight is hamburgers on the grill with new potato salad (with the homemade mayo) and sliced tomatoes. Susan has the right idea about the mayo. It takes all of two minutes with the stick blender and is soooo delicious.
-
Red,
How about stuffed vegetables? Set them up in a pan, and they can throw them in the oven. Figure friendly, and you can fill them with the stuff that the two of them will [and should] eat.
