    Highbeams, thanks for your thoughts!

    Stix,

No, Renee Maschinot has her own business; however she did train under Vinnie many years ago. I do know she has been doing tats for patients at MUSC in CHS for about five years. She occasionally does Tats at Vinnie's studio in Baltimore. Not sure what that business arrangement involves.

Just checking in on you all! Sounds like everyone is well. Pink is finished at last. Me, too. But after 30 years of this crap I don't know if it ever really ends. I did get my tats with Vinnie - very similar to Pink's experience. I will say that the tats did make the nipple scars look a bit less prominent. Overall, I am happy, healthy and having fun! Hope for the same for y'all. Big hugs from Chucktown!

    Ladies--

I saw some "Renee's" at a Plastic surgeon's office today in Savannah. The 3D tattoos looked SO good. Seeing them on someone in person, got me so excited for my finish line!!! Finally, I will make it from "low beams" to "no beams" to earning my screen name "High Beams". It's just taken over 2 1/2 to 3 years, huh? I definitely think 3D tattoos and going to see Vinnie or Renee or Vinnie's fellow artists is worth it!!!

It's been 16 days since 3D tats with Renee and I am swimming today!

Still not ready to do pictures. I think they still have a grayish look to them so will wait a few more weeks. Also the black circle around the base of the nipple is really pronounced on one of them so hoping it will fade some. That is also on my radiated side so sometimes the ink takes differently.

Thanks, brewer. All is well at my home. The big lake rose quite high, but didn't jump our bank. Just a bit of cabin fever. I am more worried about the folks in Columbia - they have areas of great devastation. Not all of downtown Charleston flooded. The clean-up is always painful, but . . .

It's been some time since I've checked in. I wanted to pop in to check on our friends in SC. Glad to hear all is well with you, Marty. Praying Pink made it through the storm okay, along with all the wonderful docs and staff who take such good care of us.

That's great to hear all okay. Several employees at my company flooded out of homes. My employer will match what we donate to our co-workers. Company has also made a major donation to Red Cross.

    Highbeams,

Been thinking about you. How are you feeling now that you have 3D nipple tats from Renee?

    Hello Pink!

I am still in the healing process. Renee has been great about answering any of my questions about tattoo healing. Very prompt and helpful with information. The tattoos initially looked great with lots of detail. Of course, now I am at the stage with some normal peeling, so I am a little impatient to see the finished product! Nine more days of applying moisturizing lotion and then I should be at the finish line! It's great to feel a little more normal!

Update: So today, the rest of the dried skin came off after my shower. They felt a little tender when I put on moisturizing lotion or maybe I just imagined it since I usually feel numb (and must continue lotion for 8 more days). They look good! I have a pair of little rosy, brown high beams--Finally! (Rosy, brown sounds like a color of Bobbi Brown lipstick I have-ha!).

This is a question for Marty. Did you say you had laser treatment for scarring? Did it help? What was the recovery process like? Do you go through any discoloration or discomfort before you see improvement. I don't know anything about laser treatments, but I am considering it now that I have my tattoos.

    high beams

So happy to hear you are happy. It took about a month for me to see final result and be healed. My tats are still looking awesome after three months.

I go for final pictures at Dr Kline office on Tues Dec 2.

Pink--I know Dr. Kline is going to be impressed with your tats and final results. Your pictures from your journey--start to finish--were impressive. You are looking good at the finish line!

We are blessed to have found good doctors and good tattoo artists to help restore us physically and in the process restore our self esteem! Thank you, Dr. Kline and Renee M!

High Beams - sorry for the delayed response - I don't check the boards very often. I had laser on my old scars (before DIEP I had implants). It was very helpful and I did it 25 years after the initial surgery. With my DIEP (she used the same incisions as for the implants, several times), I have not layered them yet. Dr. Massey always told me to give my scars 2 years to mature, not to rush. Some parts of my incisions are 2 years old and other parts are a year old. I am delighted to watch them slowly fading away. Yes, there are parts I will have lasered next year. Because if my long history with BC (30 years) and the way the initial incisions were made, I can no longer wear very low cut dresses as there are incisions in the center (only about 1" is incision free) and they wrap around under my arms and onto the back. My goal will be to minimize any raised lumpy areas - and those are mainly at my ab incision. I guess I am really suggesting that you not rush. My last surgery was August of 2014 and my tats were done in February 2015.

Thanks for your advice, Marty. I don't have any laser treatments scheduled, although I did have a consult and it was suggested to get my tattoos first. So my status is I have my tattoos and with your insight, I think I will wait awhile. I can tell that my scar from my porta cath improved with time, so hopefully my incision scars will also. The newest one will be a year old in January. So If I use the advise Dr. Massey gave you, I should wait another year. Thanks so much.

See this board is not active, but I am going to post. I had my DIEP done in 2010 by Dr. Massey, and have been completely satisfied with my results. Last year, my GP found a large ridge of hardening on the inside of my breast and finally got a MRI approved. It has been determined to be scar tissue, but is now continuing along the bottom of the breast. I do have severe tightness in my chest wall with pain if I turn certain ways, which was determined to be scar tissue from radiation. My oncologist suggested contacting my PS, and Dr. Massey believes I need to come in for a revision. I am on the books for October 10 for surgery with pre-op on October 7. In the past, we have stayed at the Courtyard Marriott on the bay. They are already booked for that weekend. Any suggestions...don't want to spend large amount of $$$ on hotel...just finished paying for a wedding last summer...LOL!!! Thanks!

    Sandy

I rented a house through VRBO and was very comfortable. I also got a referral to stay at Extended Stay America, which was not all that fancy but very inexpensive. I ended up getting the flu right before surgery and had to stay an extra week, so I was thankful to save some money.
