BiRad 5 how is this happening!?
Friday I had a mammo and ultrasound that were graded a 5. I've had cysts before they come and go so I wasn't overly concerned went to the doc she referred me for a mammo/ultrasound.
One lump in my right breast just above the nipple. I'm 35 with no family history I just can't believe what I'm hearing. My doctor basically told me there is slim to no chance of this being benign.
Guided Core Biopsy is scheduled for Wed and results expected 4 days after that. They've already referred me to a surgeon as doctor says the biopsy is more of a formality for diagnosis. I'm just venting, introducing myself and oh yeah I'm terrified. I mean how bad is it if they are basically calling it already? Anyone else have this type of experience before even having a biopsy

I'm sorry you are here.
. Yes, my radiologist after my diagnostic mammo told me to be prepared for it to be cancer. I didn't want to hear that. But these radiologists have often been doing this a long time and know what they see. I even tried to convince the radiologist at my biopsy that it was nothing. She gave me a very sad pathetic look like she's heard that before. In the end, having the radiologists tell me they were all but completely certain it was cancer helped cushion it a bit when the biopsy results came back.
Just don't start googling anything until you know what you are dealing with. I did and freaked myself out. These is always the chance they are wrong and it will be b9.
Keep us posted.

having it "called" doesn't make it any worse. It just means that you know sooner. I am sure many of us who were not told just had radiologists who didn't voice their opinions. You came to the right place for support. I'm sorry it was necessary.
The more reading you do here the more you will realize you were not given a death sentence. It could very well be early stage or in situ but was just scanned by a radiologist with lots of experience at recognizing what he sees or one who likes to give a head's up. There are also people here with birads 5 who were benign....not as many but it happens. Hang in there.

I am sorry that you are here.
I am new too. Similar to you. 32. No family history.
My radiologist told me that my mammogram and ultrasound were moderately concerning. But looking at my electronic chart afterwards I saw the Bi-Rad 5 and realized it was not good.
Do you have someone going to the biopsy with you? Hopefully you will get your results soon afterwards.

thanks ladies. I am glad I went and grateful that if the results are cancer I won't be completely caught off guard. When I went to the appointment I was seriously thinking I was going to walk out just annoyed with the bill.
As for not googling I think we are all guilty of that lol...how do you think I found these boards? Just trying to visualize it being as good of an outcome as bc can possibly be I guess
-
Yes my husband is coming with me and my neighbor is taking our 4 year old to school for us. 4 days for results is what o was told to expect.
Sorry you are here too. When is your biopsy?
-
Hi, Noangel! Yah! You found these boards by googling. I don't know why people say that, sorry wrenn. I would just pay attention to when it was written. Med md isn't so bad, and there are others. I would just stay away from sensational news type places. Nothing wrong with wikipedia either. I'm glad you have good support, and once you know a little more, you can find out even more info on this very site, too, the ladies are great.
My radiologist ran up to me, saying, "it's cancer! It's cancer!" -- like he didn't get a chance to do it very often. But I knew. I knew when I found it.

Noan....i was also birad 5 and before the stereotactic biopsy they diagnosed me the day of the mammogram which was July 29th of this year.
you still have that 3% chance being B9
This is my second primary diagnosis after 10 years........
I will be thinking of you.
Just remember they can say 4 days but you have all the right to call them for your results before that.

My radiologist told me too, she.said "I want you to be prepared, this is cancer". I still spent the days before the biopsy report googling all the benign things it could possibly be and convincing myself thats what it was. Of course I was.wrong, but I found my way to this forum and its a good place to be for information and support. Good luck to you.

Mine was Thursday. I had the mammogram and ultrasound Wednesday afternoon. I was expecting just to hear it was a cyst that I was feeling, so coming in the next morning was kinda surprising and caught me off-guard. Then the surgeon's office called that afternoon to schedule the visit the following week. And by schedule it was "we'll see you at 3:45 on Wednesday."
I really wasn't expecting to get my results from the biopsy so soon. I really thought it would be Tuesday when I heard. But yesterday afternoon I got the phone call confirming what I suspected. It will be another week before the in-depth results are in. But at least I know.

Wow skittlegirl I'm sorry. Thank you all for the information and kind words. I guess when we actually know then I can actually process all of this if its even possible

Skittlegirl, welcome to this bad club. It's funny, how I found BCO was the night before I started chemo. I really was terrified, and didn't know if I would even make it to my appointment! Extremely scared. But the women here welcomed me, and talked me down and through it.. I know it might not seem like it now, but one day, YOU will be the one to calm another's fears here, and will kind of feel like a hero of sorts, making it through. Your perceptions of what it is like now, and how it will become after treatment, is a world apart, and yes, this IS doable. Hugs to both you and NoAngel.

when I went for my follow-up mammo, the radiologist told me that in all likelihood I had Cancer, but there were no guarantees until the results of the biopsy came in. as he said, he's done tens of thousands of mammograms and ultrasounds, and just by looking at it he could tell

noangel, skittle girl
Sorry you guys have to find your way here, but since you have, let me tell you, this is a great place. I was diagnosed around your age, 25 yrs ago... so no google no net no nuthin' actually everybody was telling me at the time that it was nothing given age, family history etc...but it turned out to be cancer. It's good that you checked it out and didn't ignore it, and you're taking care of stuff. What Tomboy says is true, there are a lot of us here who have gone through the same stuff, and when you both know what the deal is, you will find plenty of people here who can give you advice and share their experiences with you. Anything you need you will be able to find someone here who has been there before you and can give you their wisdom. All you need to do is ask, this is a welcoming and safe space. I wish I'd had it 25 years ago, but I'm grateful we have it now
