Just diagnosed
I had my biopsy 3 days ago on my left breast and one lymph node, the following days my doctor called me. Invasive ductal carcinoma, my head is spinning with all the information I need to know. Next up is a MRI next Monday (which seems like a lifetime away) then back to doctor to decide on the the type of surgery is right for me. I feel like my life has stopped and I'm living someone else's life right now.

Dear Maryanne - A year ago, give or take a couple of days, I was in exactly your shoes, lymph node and all. I remember all too well how it felt and I truly feel for you. This is a rough place to be. It will get better but the waiting is horrible - and it always seems as though you get one answer or set of answers but then additional questions arise and you're back on the waiting roller coaster again.
I don't know your specifics but in most cases you don't have to make a decision about surgery right away. I know many women just want it out a.s.a.p. but it pays to take a few deep breaths, gather your thoughts and LOTS of information and make a decision that works for you. Do get a 2nd or 3rd opinion - you may gain useful information and find someone you feel very comfortable with or it may simply confirm your first choice. Your insurance should cover that.
You'll also want to get a copy of your pathology report and all subsequent reports. I know it hurts to see those words on paper but the info will be useful.
For now, try to breathe and try to spend time only with people who will really honor your needs at this very vulnerable and painful time. Feel free to PM me if you need to.

vHi Maryanne sorry about this. I was dx last Friday, please hang in there. This forum has tons of information and you will see that soon all pieces will start falling into place once you have a plan and more info. Hugs and prayers

Flower - I'm so sorry about your recent diagnosis but am very glad that you've found this site and are finding it useful. Take care.

Thank you so much Hopeful and Flower. This site really helps when I'm feeling that I'm the only one going through this. I don't know anyone with breast cancer, my sister died of colon cancer, my mom of pancreatic cancer. The last thing I was expecting was this. Flower I'm very sorry about recent diagnoses. Hugs and prayers to you both.

Thank you, Maryanne. After my diagnosis was confirmed ( a year ago today) I was touched by how helpful the women on this site were. They were a lifeline at an incredibly difficult time. I hope I can pass that on to others in the same situation.
Cancer is NOT a gift but the people we meet because of cancer ARE (most of the time).
And I'm sorry about the loss of both your sister and mother, Maryanne. My heart goes out to you. -
I am waiting for my oncotype test to determine if I am in need of chemotherapy. Results should be in 10/9/2015 just a few days from now. I am going back to work on Tuesday, had bilateral mastectomy on August 4. Have had 4 fills so far in expanders. I was with 3 different friends when they died of this disease in the 70's and 80's. I find myself crying for no reason, except stark fear. So terribly worried that I do not have the strength at my age to get through the chemo and work. I am 65.
DX 7/08/2015 ILC: 1cm stage 1 grade 1
Surgery 8/04/2015 Bilateral mastectomy
