Summer 2015 Rads

Sorry! I'm pretty itchy today, too (and pang-y in the underarm)

-
How many weeks do you have to do, Allibeths?
-
Marksgirl, it's probably fine. Lots of women seem to have the kind of pain you describe. Check with your RO anyway for peace of mind.
-
Hi ladies--just checking in. It has been almost a week since I finished and it has been so wonderful to not have my life revolve around radiation. The dark skin is peeling, especially on my nipple. It was very itchy for a while but it less so now. The bolus area is red and a little itchy. We had a glorious 5 days on the boat. I have more energy and I am much less grumpy. 😊
I see the oncologist this afternoon and will start letrozole soon.
-
I'm so glad you had a good time, sailorbev!
-
So how do you find out how much you get each day or total; do you ask teh RO or the techs?
-
alibeths, the itching is the worst! I get is so bad. I have found hydrocortisone and Advil to work. Both are anti inflammatory.
14/20 done! Yay. So over rads. The ladies who go 28 or 33 have my deepest sympathy. The tech today asked me how my day was going. I said good but then had to come here, and she said don't you feel like this is a nice break in your busy day? (she was serious) I almost said wtf? But instead I laughed and said. You can go with that.
Omg, seriously? I love having my boob fried everyday, it's what I always do for relaxation. (Insert sarcasm here)
-
I was talking to one of the techs. He's the geeky one. I was just commenting to him that sometimes I count to 15 for a zap and sometimes it's 13 and he explained that I get the same amount and that when he said the 145 but the time is different based on air pressure, humidity, and other factors.
-
Humidity, huh? Didn't know that. I'll have to ask my techs, though I'm only counting to 5-8 for mine.
-
Interesting. Mine vary from about 7 seconds to 30 seconds. It is consistent day to day though, and I know the pattern of all of the movements and zaps now.
-
little, I have 25. You? It sucks. I'm more tired now then chemo
-
33 including boosts. I'm more tired than on chemo too...

Hi Sailor:
I begin radiation on 9/9. The rads nurse told me I can use Toms deodorant during treatment. She did say if armpit hair begins to grow back I should not shave. I hope this info is helpful.
Wishing your excellent health and happiness,
MariaTeresaG -
MariaTeresa--thank you for the info. My rads nurse said no deodorant of any kind in my armpit for 2-3 more weeks. The written instructions said 6 weeks!!! It is funny how different the instructions are between the different facilities. I am a compulsive rule follower, but this time I decided to break the rule. I have been using deodorant since I finished and my skin seems to be healing just fine.
-
Curious indeed how the different facilities work! My husband and I rather got the impression from my RO's staff that I could use antiperspirant (the kind with aluminum) during treatment, as long as I didn't have any skin breaks, but COULD NOT wear it while actually receiving the rads.
-
Hope it's OK to jump in here, but I was the same. I was allowed deodorant the entire time as long as it wasn't within 2 hours of rads. I asked and the RO said they had recent studies showing it didn't make a difference whether or not you wore deodorant. I didn't buy Toms or anything else special, just my regular stuff. Nobody ever told me not to shave so I shaved the entire time too. The only problem I had was some redness and soreness in the armpit near the lymph node incision because it was in the field of the rads.
-
MariaTeresa: my sympathetic support. That's one rule I'd be desperately tempted to break, had my RO's nurse not given me the go-ahead. My only guess is ask!
-
Hi, ORgal. You're welcome here!
-
Thank you thank you KSusan!!! I am a little ticked off I am sore in my armpit. I was celebrating being done - not looking for things to worry about! I see the MD on Thursday. I am thinking/hoping it is scar tissue from the surgery. CaMommy, OMGosh to think that rads might be a nice relaxing moment in our day - Good Grief!!!
I pitched the Tom's as soon as I was done. I don't think the radiated portion of my armpit is sweating yet anyway. Hang in there everyone. It will be over soon!!!!!!
-
fatigue seems to be lifting a bit, or maybe I just hit the sweet spot with my caffeine consumption.
-
Caffeine's good for what ails you.
I slept at mid-day. Skin around the end of my incision is tight, but color is fading to splotchy brown above the incision. My ROM feels a little constrained but still okay. Took a bath with epsom salts, which seems to have helped, followed by moisturizer.
-
12 of 28 done. My MO signed me up for PT also. That started today. Let's see Work, PT, rads and then 2.5 hrs at the laundromat. Whew! I'm beat!
-
Marksgirl, I'm curious to hear what you find out. I'm two months post rads and having some soreness too. My soreness is between the armpit and the breast. Could be breast tissue, could be lymph nodes. I get an ultrasound on Friday.
-
I had lymphedema therapist check up today before rads. She was surprised by how good my range of motion is which I am glad about, but I wish she could address the cording. I know I have worked to stretch it to regain range of motion, but that sucker hurts. She said we could address it after rads. I see her again in late October. She told me she thought I was getting pink in a couple spots. I actually think it was probably a shadow because I do not detect any pink yet, and it seems early for that. I have plenty more days to get pink.
The girl sitting next to me was getting rads in her nether regions. She was remarking how painful it is to go to the bathroom, etc. As much as I dislike breast rads, I much prefer it to the thought of rads "down there"........OUCH!!!!!!!
-
Because I took my clothes off twice already for strangers and didn't get paid...
Also my Rad tech refused to just...kind of...aim Hester at my upper lip.....cause dammit I now have a ladystache as of last night. No love. I get no love.
-
You don't do it for the pleasure of it?
My team refused to radiate the other side to flatten out the scar. Rule-bound schmucks!
-
Sometimes I do LOL! So, will radiation flatten out this scar? BONUS! I still look like a walrus. A walrus covered in schmaltz. Who strips for free. I sense a country song coming on!

A Woman Named Blue (and her Dog Pink, Too)
A dog named Pink and my friend LittleBlue
Got to scrapping one night, though each of them knew
What the real fight was (and they'd seen a few),
Had Pink and my friend LittleBlue.Says Pink, "I know some things about cancer,
I've seen it a lot and I've got the answer,
Take it all off, cause now you're a dancer,
Show off that chest, cause you're a romancer."[Dizzparkmom, GingerChi, gkodad, and the April Chemo chorus and go-go dancers:]
"Light it up, take it off, shake it down, shake it down-down, down-down, uh!
Light it up, take it off, shake it down, shake it down-down, down-down!"
[Addie, spoken:] "You know you wanna!"
[LittleBlueFlowers, spoken:] "Oh, I do, all right!""Look here," says Blue, pulling off her chest bandage,
"Make no mistake, it's an effing shit sandwich,
And pardon me for my filthy language
(There's ladies present, but the ladies will manage)."[Keys-Plez and Summer Rads chorus, spoken:] "Your scar looks great! I see head fuzz! Maaan, do my TEs itch or what?"
[Marksgirl, spoken:] "Yeah, like that Aquaphor don't itch, too."
[Queenmomcat and ORgirl:] "Oh, it itch, sister, it itch a LOT!"
[CAMommy:] "Uh, huh, tell me something I DON'T know--like about Arimidex!"Says Pink, "It hurts to wear your PJs,
So don't work that thang, just go for BJs.
Fight lymphedema as you dance to the DJs,
And pick up a wig online at the Ebay's!""A wig?" goes Blue, "I'm wearing a scarf,
It's the Dance of the Seven Veils till I barf,
I'm Tank Girl, I'm Lieutenant Worf,
Now crank up the country and I'll take it all off!"[Intense twangy guitar solo, signifying Blue's increasingly energetic disrobing dance.]
"I'm destroying invaders with schmaltz and chemo,
But I like a song that's not too emo!
I live in Montana but this I know:
Breast cancer sucks no matter where you go."
[Kbeee, spoken:] "And not in a nice way.""Well, then," says Pink, "You'll want radiation,
with a bolus and linear acceleration.
Not gonna lie, it's a weird sensation,
And not gonna help with your lady-lubrication."[Katy's rap:] "Holy cow! Don't go there now!
Got hair on her chin and a unibrow!
Jack say 'Woof!' and Tutti go 'Meow!
Meow, meow, meow,' break it down, break it down now, OW!"[Break with various rap-style percussion noises, beat box, meowing cats, chainsaws, tambourines, etc. In the music video, a forest fire is successfully extinguished by buff firefighters.]
Pink says, "Blue, I know what you think,
But though it's my name, I'm not damned pink,
And I'm working for you, not Cancer, Inc.,
So I'll think good thoughts; you'll throw up in the sink."
Then Blue says, "Pink, I aim to please,
So I'm gonna bust a move with my rads striptease.
Now lay down the rhythm, then get on your knees
And pray till there's No Evidence of Disease."
[Positive Spirit, spoken:] "You know, my good friend, NED."
[DizzParkMom, spoken:] "You know Ned? You know my sista, Emla?"So they sang, drank l-glutamine, danced, and cussed,
Complained about lack of fingernails and lust,
And found the commonality in all of us.
The next song's about an effing wal-rus, yo!
[Ksusan, yelled:] "Goo goo g'joob, homegirls!"
[Whitney, yelled:] "Yo, yo, yo! WPMoon inna house!" -
ksusan, I love you so much. Crying with laughter right now. You are a genius and missed your calling as an epic song writer! It's like wu tang clan and Roy Rodgers had a love child who picked up with whoever wrote the icelandic sagas! Words can not express how much I needed that...
