radiation pneumonitis

I was curious..has anyone got the diagnosis of radiation pneumonitis after completion of rads? The reason I am asking is since I have completed rads I have been kind of short of breath.  Doc said he could hear changes in my rt lung and sent me for a xray yesterday.  About two weeks before I finished rads I got the flu that was going around. Doc sent me for a chest xray and it showed some infiltrate on the left lung and rt was clear. Did a round of antibiotics and went in for a follow up a week and a half later and he said the left lung sounded clear but now he heard some change on the rt.  He decided we would wait a couple weeks and recheck before my next herceptin treatment.  Now I'm done with rads and yesterday was Herceptin and he was concerned because of the sound of my rt lung.  He said if the xray showed pneumonia he would call and have me start antibiotics.  Didn't get a call about it today so now I am worried.  I follow up next week on the 26th which feels like years away. I have no fever, no cough, just some shortness of breath. Just hoping someone has had a similar experience where everything turned out ok.

    Hi Hannah

I hope the antibiotics kick in for you pronto!

My onc told me that sometimes it takes the lungs a little time to settle down again after radiation. After a chest xray and spirometry test they say they are not worried and neither should I be.

In fact, they're so worried I don't have to see them for a whole year!

Hope yours is just a chest infection.

    Best wishes

    Alice

I have pneumonitis and I have been on prednisone for 2 months now.

I finishing radiation in April and it took my doctor over 2 months to find out why I was coughing.

I have been having horrible leg pain and the doctor thinks its from the prednisone. I have been drinking tonic water to try and relieve some of the pain at night because it is so bad. Does anyone else have this problem? What do you do for your pain either at night or during the day?
