Summer 2015 Rads

I do. I am loving that I dont have treatment today, no pain or itching today. My boobie feels so much better than being blasted with X-rays every day. I can not freaking wait to be done.
-
Hi all. I'm done with 6 rounds of TC AND have just finished 30 radiation treatments!! It's been about 2 weeks. My question is, is it normal to having shooting stabbing pains? It's awful takes my breath away. I had a double mastectomy last November. It's very red, and some loose wounds where my bra line would be. Any info would help!! I see my rad/onc tuesday. Thanks!!
-
Kbee, I schmaltzed today and every day 😊
-
Kbeee, I was told by my RO to keep moisturizing like normal on weekends...so I do. It just makes sense.

Don't forget to keep up your toenail care if you had problems during chemo! Those suckers take a long time to grow out.
-
Yep, I emued myself all up before bed last night.
In case anyone is keeping track, there are 27 hours and 54 minutes until I get my port out. THAT will be a happy moment. I get zapped at 10 and then port comes out at 11. It will be a marvelous Monday!
KSusan, I am glad you warned about those stickers. I did have one covering and X they drew. They asked if I reacted to adhesives, and I said that I sometimes do, but not all the time. They said to remove it if it caused problems, and they would just take a little longer and find the spot each day.. It was no problem the first day, but then I awoke to find myself scratching it really hard. I know I don't want to be doing that so I took it off and had a bright red circle mark on my skin from irritation. I've been trying hard not to scratch it while awake but still am scratching it in my sleep. No more sticker circles for this girl; I don't need to be itching and trying not to scratch already!

beatcancerforlife, Congratulations for finishing chemo and 30 rads! Yes, shooting pains during and after rads are from nerves either reconnecting or reacting to some swelling tissue...which is typical, too. The nerve pain and the swelling will cease a couple of weeks after rads are finished.
Are the "loose wounds" raw skin? If so, ask your RO for an Rx for Silverdene. If the wounds are just new, very pink, tender skin...goop on lots of Aquafor and wear a tee shirt you don't care about.
Since you had a mastectomy, and I had a lumpectomy, maybe another MX gal has better information and will chime in.
-
Karen, I'm so glad you caught that. The only place I'm having any post-radiation skin trouble is a spot where I had a sticker on for 8 days in early July.
-
Thank You for responding. I was doing great. I had started to exercise again. It was starting to feel great. This skin issue is just a minor setback, as I know I will begin to heal. I see my doc on Tuesday so I will confirm with her. I do have the prescription for SSD and it does seem to help. However not with the shooting pains. I have found that Motrin tends to help me there. UGH!! Been a long road!!!
-
nooooooo tomorrow is Monday. I don't want to go back to radiation. I don't want to!
-
#16 of 16 today! Yahoo! Will be glad to stop that daily routine. Start tamoxifen next week but no more medical appointments until November. Heading to Newfoundland on Friday to settle our son at university, will miss him. My goal for the fall is to build up my strength, walking, yoga and whatever else I can do to get ready to go back to work in a few months.
-
Congratulations!
-
Radiation fatigue- is it a real thing??? I get zapped in the morning, and I'm usually ready for a nap by noon. I'm only on my second week! Is this all in my head?
-
it's real. I feel it too. Some days worse than others.
13/20 done. They ran late today <_<. Hate that, but once they got to me it was quick. So itchy in the nipple. Drives me crazy. I have to wear a bra 24/7 or the itching is worse. I wear a cotton sleep bra.
-
Has anyone had a delay in treatment due to raw skin? I saw my RO today and he said that since my skin is so raw on my collar bone, because the skin is thinner there, that he wants to see me again on Friday morning before treatment to see if he feels like my skin can tolerate it or give me a 4 day break with Monday being a holiday. I know that this is childish but I don't want to!! LOL I want to finish on the 11th, it's a Friday and I don't want to start the next week by going to the cancer center. I do understand him wanting to wait if my skin isn't able to take anymore this week, but I am so ready to be done! I have been putting smooth and cool on about 3 to 4 times a day and cover up when I go outside, but it is what it is and I will have to just go with it, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my skin behaves all week!
-
Littleblue, it's a thing. My radiation fatigue eased up as I got farther from chemo, though.
-
6doggies, I am near the beginning so I can't answer your question, but I do know people who have had a delay to allow skin to heal so they did not risk infection, etc.
Littleblue, I am tired too, but I also have had some busy nights at work.
So the techs left to zap me and the music came on. The first song was Bruno Mars Uptown Funk..."Call the police and the fireman, I'm so hot". That got my eyes really big because I am a fire fighter and obviously they're zapping me. Then the next song came on..."This girl is on fire...". I seriously was about to get up and run!!!! At first I thought they were messing with me but then I heard it's just a radio station. Eeeek!!! I hope it was not foreshadowing my future!
-
You will find that no matter what, there will be fire and radiation songs on during radiation ("I'm on Fire," "Fire," "Atomic," "Radioactive," "Burning Down the House," "Fire in Cairo," "Ring of Fire," etc.). It's the universe letting us know it's watching and encouraging us to laugh.
-
KBeee that is a funny coincidence! There is music at my centre but I'm too busy holding my breath that never know what's playing.
My appointments are late in the day and I notice that I fall asleep earlier than my usual. But then it could be that chemo is finally out of my system and I'm falling asleep like normal people. I'm at 20/30 today and noticed that I'm getting more tired starting late last week. Need to slow down and take it easy.
-
3 1/2 weeks out of rads and the fatigue is getting better. It probably was the worst the week after rads but not too bad overall - as long as I could take a nap! I have had a few needle stabs in my breast but otherwise feeling almost normal!!! Until last night. My arm pit is aching and I have a tender spot right in the depths of my arm pit, a little above the rad line. Please tell me this is LE or something. I am trying not to freak out. I see the RO tomorrow for a scheduled follow up. Any advice?? (I have micropapillary which is a rare subtype of IDC that has a very high rate of lymph node spread but it was tiny, was not anticipating this!)

Tired----so effing tired. Guess since the fatigue wagon missed me during chemo its getting me now. How do we know if its exhaustion from reoccurrence or from treatment??? 50,000$ question?
-
11/28 done. OK. What's with this music? Once the techs scuttle out of the room, I'm only in there for 3 or 4 minutes. That's barely enough for one song. They said I could bring my own music, but why bother?
11/28---My skin is getting a little sensitive. I bought a new TShirt, but couldn't wear it until I washed it and treated it with a softener. I don't think I'm overly tired.I'm not falling asleep at work or anything. My appts are on the way home from work. I'm a morning person and low energy after work anyway. So. I don't see much difference. So far, it's not as bad as I was anticipating (knock on wood). But I've still got 17 more to go.
-
you guys can do this. Make sure you are getting protein and lots of fluid. It really helps.
-
I totally crave meat which is funny because I don't usually like it. Meat and fruit.
I am very tired after my rads session. I was thinking I should have done them in the late afternoon so I could just to bed afterwards. Monday's and Tuesdays are the worst. Oddly by Friday I'm pretty good. I only have 7 left. I really wish I didn't need the boost but with close margins I think I should.
-
Littleblue, I think it is the rads right after chemo that's knocking us out.
Keys plez, I hear several songs while I am in there. They set it up, I set zapped, they come in and take a wedge off the machine and readjust then I get zapped 2 more times...very long ones. Then they put the bolus on and readjust and I get zapped 4 more times. The machine moves and adjusts in between these, so I get a few songs in. I don't think I get a music choice!
-
Finished rads last Wednesday. Felt great throughout, but now have SEs. Underarm is sore, skin is deep red over upper left breast. This is when it feels like a sunburn. Can't get comfortable in bed at night.
Using triamcinolone and Aquaphor religiously.
Anticipating improvement over the next week.
This too shall pass.
-
Same SEs here, plus a little swelling.
-
KBee...That's really complicated. They set me up, I get zapped from 3 different angles for about 45 seconds each angle and then I'm done. I had intrabeam radiation during surgery. So was supposed to be all the radiation I needed, but afterwards, they decided I needed to do whole breast. On the good side, I don't have to have boosts.
-
I only have two angles and both are quick. But it can take them 5 minutes to position me correctly. Then thry take an X-ray every day. Sometimes they leave me for a looooong time on the table while they analyze the X-ray.
I found out I get 145 cGy per session, or 1.45 Gy. I think this is on the low side too, but then again I only have DCIS.

I AM SO ITCHY !
