    Hi Rosie,

I just sent you a private message responding to your question about providers.

Chicago, my situation is not that uncommon. I don't even mention that prior to DCIS/IDC diagnosis I was monitored for 13 (!) years with regular mammos and they still missed the right moment to intervene. So when I read all that general wording about just monitoring DCIS I get a little skeptical. The devil is in the details.

VR: Thanks for the clarification on the study. Now if only all the news articles reporting about the study would be so careful!

Rosie: I also worry that we may be heading towards denying insurance coverage of BMX for DCIS patients. In my view, that's a bad idea until until we have better science telling us *which* women we are over-treating.

“Overtreatment” is easily conflated with “unnecessary” care. But they are quite different. Unnecessary care is getting antibiotics for a cold. It’s not only care that won’t help you, but care we know in advance won’t help you. But overtreatment is the Monday morning quarterbacking of cancer care: You can know it only retrospectively.

I feel you have to go with the treatment that will let you sleep at night.
