We've had a hot August in the North Country!

43 degrees this morning here in Fargo. Will need to wear a sweatshirt this morning when I go to the cemetery to take pictures.

Can you see the holiness in those things you take for granted--
a paved road or a washing machine? If you concentrate on finding
what is good in every situation, you will discover that your life
will suddenly be filled with gratitude, a feeling that nurtures the soul.

We're having a perfect sunny day here in northern MN. DH and I played golf for the first time in two weeks. It felt great to get out on the course. Now I'm enjoying a leisurely afternoon while dh is busy at his cabinet building down in the resort garage. I don't remember if I mentioned that he is earning our rent for this summer by doing some work for the owner.
Our time here is more than half over.
Hi to all. Hope you're having a good Tuesday.

For a long time it seemed to me that real life was about to begin, but there was always some obstacle in the way. Something had to be got through first, some unfinished business; time still to be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. -Bette Howland

Good quote, Jackie.

Join the great company of those who make the barren places of life fruitful with kindness. Carry a vision of heaven in your hearts, and you shall make your name, your college, the world, correspond to that vision. Your success and happiness lie within you. External conditions are the accidents of life, its outer wrappings. The great, enduring realities are love and service. Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow. Resolve to keep happy, and your joy and you shall form an invincible host against difficulty.

Beautiful morning out on the lake. The loons were out. Can't say the same about the fish!

Lovely photos!!

Looking over all the posts, love you all for all your giving hearts. Been struggling with blood sugar levels since cancer and dh heart issues along with moving mom into assisted living. I feel sooo guilty about moving her but I just cannot keep up with all three of us. Trying to keep the balance. Shuf

Shuf,
I'm so sorry to hear about all the issues you are facing. I know some things do come hard, but I hope your Mom will find people close to her age that she might befriend. She could end up having a delightful situation --- sort of depends on her personality and attitude.
At the same time --- making this change now may hopefully give you more energy and maybe soon you can take her out somewhere to lunch, or to do some shopping with her.
All anyone can do most of the time is take life in little bites and do the best we can. Just don't beat yourself up. Some days are good and some just won't come out right it seems no matter what you try. I hope you will come as often as you can here. Can't promise we can lighten your load but we can sure give it our best try. If you have to struggle it always feels a little better and a little less lonely with a lot of people rather than all by yourself.
Here's to success even if it has to be with really tiny steps. As long as we keep moving in the right direction we have done something good.
Sending you lots of positive energies and quiet hope for things to come out in a good place for all of you.
Blessings,
Jackie

Sure like the loons --- meant to get on here a lot earlier and say that. They look so calm and peaceful which I'm sure helps to make the picture all the more enjoyable. We all like calm and peace.

Shut,
My Dad lived in a senior citizens'residence for the last six years of his life, and he loved it. It did not have the assisted living part, but other things are similar. He made many friends there and participated in activities he never thought he would. It can take time to adjust, but moving to assisted living could be just right for your mom. We had to book my dad's time wellness in advance because his "social calendar" filled up. Don't feel guilty about your mom. She will receive excellent care in assisted living and will be in a safe environment with social opportunities.

More hugs for Shuf as you do what is necessary. Thank you, 50sgirl, for that upbeat post.
Greetings to everyone. Hope you have a good day.

In reality, of course, we are all cells in the body of humanity. We are not separate from our fellow humans. The whole thing is a totality. It's only from that higher viewpoint that you can know what it is to love your neighbor as yourself. From that higher viewpoint there becomes just one realistic way to work, and that is for the good of the whole. As long as you work for your selfish little self, you're just one cell against all those other cells, and you're way out of harmony. But as soon as you begin working for the good of the whole, you find yourself in harmony with all of your fellow human beings. You see, it's the easy, harmonious way to live.

Mornin all
Shuf- you sure do have a lot on your plate right now. Wishing you peace and strength as you handle each issue the best you can. If you do your best, there can be no regrets.
Nothing much here. Tracy got the okay from the Dr to walk and drive and resume life. Her broken ankle has healed. 11 weeks wheelchair bound.. She is so excited, but it is going slower than she hoped. She is still using crutches most of the time. It will take a while for her to get her confidence back, but she plans to go back to work Sept 1st. She found out yesterday she has a new boss.
Big news here is my #1 DGS is going thru his first broken heart. He is 16 and they had been together 7 mos. She did the actual breaking up, but he was starting to see how one sided the relationship was. She could decide to sit with her friends for the first football rally, which he was fine with, but he said to her if he had told her he was sitting with his friends, her answer would not have been okay. She went into a rage and told him she couldn't take his "abuse" anymore. Michael is no more abusive than a new born kitten. She is very emotional and dramatic. Turns out he is #5 on her list of "abusive" and uncaring boyfriends. My DD found them rolling around on the floor and said "We're keeping it clean guys, right" in a joking manner. That sent the girl into a full blown panic attack apparently, and she was so humiliated, she told Mike she would never come to his house again. A little dramatic.
Anyway, have to take Tracy to meet her new boss

Anne, The last thing any relationship needs is drama. Big red flag!

Happy Birthday, Rita! Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Rita, hope your day sparkles with good times and is just as wonderful as you are. Lots and lots more to you .

Blessings for a lifetime.

Happy Birthday RitaJean.

Hi Ladies,
Happy Birthday Ritajean, Hope you are having a great day!
Shuf, do not feel quilty. I had to put my mom in an assisted living community after living with us for almost 15 years. I felt so quilty but one day she told my aunt she wished she had moved there years before. She was with people her own age, activities during the day and evenings. Besides this more people came to visit or take her out somewhere on a regular basis.
Anne, glad tracy is on the mend. Teenagers do not need drama in a relationship. They should be enjoying their time together.
Sorry the type is so big. It just started this yesterday and I am not sure how to end it.
Has anyone heard from Mimi (the little clown)?
Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Happy Birthday, RitaJean!!!

Illinois lady, that's a beautiful quote by Helen Keller
I'm 60 and just diagnosed last Monday with a small node in my right breast. Waiting for my test results, to get an MRI, and to see another surgeon for confirmation.
Here's a pic of 2 of our 4 cats, Fritz and Sammy, sunning themselves.

Happy belated birthday, Ritajean
-
Lindab, I hope the node is benign. Lovely cats.

Hi lindab
Welcome to our group, sorry you are here. We are a great bunch of women who have been where you are. We have become good friends, and share our lives as well as our journey on the cancer planet. We know you are in the toughest part right now- the limbo land of having a DX, but not knowing what is going to be done about it. It just seems a little less out-of-control when you have a treatment plan. Hang in there, and live one minute at a time until you meet with your team to come up with a treatment plan. Although most journeys are similar, each is individualized as needed. No one on here claims to be a Dr, but we can share our experiences with you, and between us all, there are a lot of experiences to share.
My journey was a little unusual, as I had chemo before surgery. I was Her2+ (X3) which is a very aggressive cancer and was stage 3 so they wanted to stop the cancer as quickly as possible. By the time of the surgery, five months later, there were no signs of any cancer remaining. I still had 33 radiation treatments after surgery. I had another surgery in Apr to "clean up" the extra skin the Dr had left in case I wanted reconstruction. I was due to go back to all 3 Drs in July, my oncologist, my surgeon, and the radiation Dr for routine check- ups. I split my time between So Fl and Atlanta. I was diagnosed in Atlanta and treated at Emory University. I was in So Florida in June when the daughter I live with here broke her ankle. She needed surgery and has been wheelchair bound since. She is a single mother as well, so I have stayed here to help her. She just got the ok on Wed to resume walking and driving, and is planning to return to work Tues. As soon as I know she can handle life on her own, I will head back to Atlanta and catch up on all check ups.
Please feel free to join us. You can ask questions, express fears, or just tell us a little about yourself.

This life is yours. Take the power to choose what you want to do
and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and
love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a
part of nature. Take the power to control your own life.
No one else can do it for you. Take the power
to make your life happy.
