elevated liver enzymes
I am 47 and was diagnosed with IDC one year ago. The final pathology report after lumpectomy stated pT1c N0(sn) stage, tumor was 1.1cm in the largest direction, 2mm was the thinnest margin of healthy tissue, sentinel nodes (2) negative, ER +90%, PR +90%, HEUR2 negative, BRCA1&2 negative, Grade II, Ki-67 16%. I underwent radio, but based on oncotypeDX did not need chemo. Have been on Tamoxifen for 6 months. My recent results showed elevated liver anzyme levels, ALT (36) and AST (87), the rest of the results were OK. Should I worry about metastases in liver? Thank you.

I have the same thing. I was sent to a liver specialist after they kept going up for over a year. It was determined that I have developed fatty liver. I blame this on Tamoxifen as my liver was fine before Tamoxifen and even after chemo

I just got my first blood work after finishing chemo in April and rads 2 weeks ago. My ALT is 36. Range is (0-32) Everything else normal. Now I'm thinking I have liver mets. My Onco said this elevation was nothing....I just can't help but want some reassurance. I'm on cholesterol meds, that's why it is checked

If you search the forums you will find that there are several threads on Tamoxifen and elevated liver enzymes or fatty liver so you are not alone in worrying about it. It is apparently a risk for about 30% or us who take Tamoxifen. Here's a link to an article on the National Institutes of Health web page on the topic...I know I worry about recurrence too so this may not be reassuring at the moment but I hope you find it is controllable and it's the medication...(((Hugs)))

I don't think that increase is considered significant. They can go up or down for many reasons. They will usually watch them over a period of time to see if they are increasing.

I was just diagnosed today with fatty liver. My liver enzymes have been slowly increasing since May. The last test in July was ast 63 and alt-111. I only started becoming concern when I noticed petechiae on my lower legs. I am not overweight, I exercise regularly and I don't drink a lot of alcohol, funny thing is when I was on Tamoxifen my enzymes were fine. It was when I had to switch to toremifene that my enzymes started to rise. My Onco doc wants to monitor it and possibly take me off some meds. I think I'll push to stop HT all together. I couldn't stand the joint pain with Tamoxifen and just don't feel like being a guinea pig with another set of HT pills..

I was told today by my MO at my Tamoxifen talk that they'll check my ALT and AST a month after starting because it can cause elevations.
