I am finding it very difficult to find any information in the UK.

I found a lump in February and despite being told that it was benign (fine needle sample and 2 ultrasounds) I was told last week that it has now changed and it's a high grade dcis and some calcification in the area. I am due to have an MRI scan tomorrow.

My consultant wants to remove my implants, lumpectomy and radiotherapy but she has said I can't have the implants put back in now or ever. She also wont do fat transfer as she said it can show as calcification so cause problems for future monitoring.

I have 525cc implants so am very concerned that I'm going to be a 39 year old with 90 year old breasts. I'm not sure I am getting the right advice. Can anyone help?

Hi 39yearsold and welcome to BCO.

You may find this page interesting regarding implants and breast cancer screening Women With Cosmetic Implants May Have Worse Breast Cancer Survival Rates, but More Research Needed.

There is a lot to consider in your decision, and you may want to talk to your treatment team (e.g. breast surgeon) about the options.

Good luck tomorrow, and we'll be thinking of you!

Greetings! I'm having a bilateral mastectomy but was told that my implants would probably survive a lumpectomy. But my cancer is just under the nipple and my implants are under the muscle. Where are yours placed and where is the DCIS? I know that over the muscle implants are almost always problematic for a lumpectomy.

Also, implants are problematic for radiation - my surgeon said you should delay reconstruction with implants if radiation is anticipated.

But I'm not sure why you couldn't have them replaced subpectorally down the road once all your treatment is complete.

I'm not at all familiar with fat transplant, sorry!
