Ceasing Lactation/Biopsy

I've noticed a large lump, I'd assumed due to nursing my youngest but the traditional methods wouldn't make it go away, also it was painless, which I found suspicious.

Monday I went in for an exam with my MD, he wasn't overly concerned and said breast cancer was at the bottom of the list of stuff it may be. Wednesday I got my mammogram and ultrasound, they found a 5.2 cm irregular, dense mass and I think a 2cm oval mass in the lymph node, now they didn't tell me what this means, just that I need a biopsy. I continued to nurse my baby, no problem, even with the lumpy breast. On Thursday I had a needle biopsy done on the large mass and the little lymph node. The doctor performing the biopsy looked stunned when I asked how soon after can I nurse. She said stop immediately.

It has been so painful. I'm using cabbage leaves and I tried the regular sudifed. It's so much worse than the biopsy was, pain wise. They're very worried about bleeding so maybe because it increases blood flow?

I just wish someone had warned me. It was a punch to the gut being told I had to wean my baby like *now* I wish they'd given me a prescription or said "you've got a big ol' mass, this isn't normal" or anything.

My BI-RADS is a 5 of course that doesn't mean anything until the results are in.

Fortunately I've got anxiety so I have anxiety meds to take but this weekend is brutal. I feel so lethargic and my head is running in circles. If it's malignant I want a game plan, if it's benign I want a game plan. Not knowing is horrible

I hope you get the biopsy results soon! It must be horrible to have to wait over the weekend. Hugs!

Clara, do you mean you are having pain from engorgement because of suddenly stopping nursing? I would think a lactation consultant could help you, and you might be able to reach one over the weekend if you call a La Leche League hotline? I also remember that sage is supposed to diminish milk production, and there are probably drugs a doctor could prescribe to help you. I hope your baby is taking to a bottle ok, and that he/she will be a comfort to you during this stressful waiting time.

I was having engorgement pain, but the cabbage helped and the Tylenol. My "baby" is a bit over one year so she's adjusting to the No Milk life. She had a glass of cows milk and dumped it in the trash can!!! I'm going to try Sage, thank you!

The waiting has been excruciating. I'm fairly confident of the diagnosis and I want the confirmation so that I can start a treatment plan. I feel useless waiting, and I'm tired and ill from all of the stress. Fingers crossed for today but it might now even be until next week :(

I'm happy I found this forum, it's been really informative to read through similar situations.
